Anyone see the American Idol auditions last night from Minnesota. These auditions are hilarious. Saw a few hopefuls last night but a lot of embarrassing auditions also. Tonight they are going to be in Seattle. Simon claims Seattle had the worst auditions of all the cities. Memphis will be on next week. :clap_1:

I just spoke with a co-worker whose daughter tried out in Memphis this year. The daughter had to sign a paper stating it was okay for the show to make fun of her. Since she was underage, the mom had to sign as well. She said her daughter was okay with that policy.

I KNEW IT!!!!!!!!!

I really think they've intentionally toned the meaness down. Some of the..er, "contestants" still were just plain insane, but I thought all and all, tonight, the judges were kinder. Even Simon. There were a couple of really good singers and they let through a couple that I didn't think would make it. So...maybe a "kinder, gentler AI"??

I ran across the show (was it last night?) as i was channel surfing. the judges make me wanna gag, but I wanted to see someone perform, but just couldn't stay there... oh well.

Is it live in Birmingham? It looked like they were showing clips from there.:idontno: Maybe from last year? This is my first time watching. I know it seems heartless at times, but there are some great singers as well. I think that one of the comments made last night about "It wasn't about pretty good singers making it but they are only looking for THE American Idol" kind of summed it up. I did really really feel bad for the African American woman who was kind of plump and short. I thought she was great. I hope she doesn't give up!

I know a couple of people I wish would go to Birmingham if it is live next week!

They had auditions in B'ham this summer and this is the telecast of those auditions. The clips you saw were of the auditions taped this summer.

Darn, there are 2 local singers I wished could have gone. Whether or not they would have is another story!

Hmm. So I guess she didn't make it to Hollywood? Did they show her on tv?

Did not make it past the first audition...and she wasn't on tv either. They did not remember anyone who was on the show:confused: Both of them had a good time which is what it needs to happen. Enjoy the moment!!

I know an OWC student who did go up to B'ham to audition, but didn't make it very far into the rounds. And he probably wasn't the only one from these parts.

I cannot stand that on his chin. I hope it is shaved off also. Does anyone remember what his dad's first name was who was a singer? He did some song called Treat Me Right. I was going to try and look up something on his father.

Thanks. I think that was it. I am going to see if there is anything on him. He supposedly had a hit with that song. The film clip looked like it was from the 50's. Well, the song is from the 60's. He recorded it for a movie called The Commitments. There is stuff about him on the web.

I seem to remember they mentioned something about the Beatles knocking him out of the #1 song so it may have been the 60's. In fact, I think I remember the song. I'm pretty old. :D

I know he's probably totally cannon-fodder in Hollywood, but I'd love to see HomelessCastroJesus make it through to the public voting rounds.

I know that I'm going to be thoroughly bored by 75% of the people who make it to the semifinals, so please give me someone who holds my interest.

I absolutely agree! He will definitely make it interesting. Wonder why his hair didn't bother me as much as Sundance's chest hair!

I was only 5 years old when he did that song. That is right, the Beatles did knock him out of the #1 spot. As to you saying you are pretty old, don't believe that. Now I know you aren't. You are two years younger than my husband.

I love that they let the guy sing who went on last night whose partner/friend/wife? not sure of the relationship, had died before the audition. He sang an incredible tribute. I was hoping they would let him compete and move on to the next round. I did get emotional watching him and listening to his song.

How about the BAD Prince wanna be! Growl!

Yeah, I really enjoyed that part. Such a sweet gesture:wub: and I am glad Idol made an exception.

I missed Idol last night. I forgot it was on and fell asleep and woke up at 8:10 and thought of it, but went back to sleep. Hadn't slept well the past two nights, until last night.

Sorry you're not sleeping well.:( It was pretty uneventful except the 68 year old man, whose friend? died of cancer 2 days before the audition. Because he was too old under the rules of the show, he had a petition signed by I don't know how many people saying he should be able to sing. I think his friend believed in him, started the petition and then died 2 days before! He had Paula in tears. I believe he was better than 99% of the people on last night!
