RO, I am impressed.... yes, they are in the same family as retreivers and also have the web feet so they can swim well. They are much bigger than labs and goldens and have a lot more hair:eek: (vacuum endlessly). They are probably more similar to St. Bernard in size -- remember the dog in Beethoven, when he would shake the spooge would go everywhere? Well, they aren't as bad as that breed, but I do follow them around with a dish towel after they drink water:roll:

But, they are my

I've seen them in action as rescue dogs in Greenland or Iceland it seemed. I know they are very big and very strong swimmers. Didn't one win the big prize dog show a year or two ago? Do they have a gentle nature? They sure look like they do.

2 dogs love toilet paper and it is a HUGE pet peeve. The sight of a roll shredded, which somehow is my job to pick up on a regular basis, drives me crazy! Flo also has a thing for bars of soap! I think Tone is her favorite. We have switched to bottle soap because I was tired of finding the soap gone after I had already gotten in the shower!
I used to have quite an extensive collection of boots from living in Michigan. Smokin hot red boots, equestrian boots, high heeled dress boots, I just liked wearing boots with dresses. I don't have them anymore:confused: they succumbed to puppyitis! See pic:

Maybe it helps cover the sock after taste.:D

when our oes was living we burned up a sweeper every 6 months and i mean literally burned up - her hair got to be about 8 inches long in winter. how quickly do you have to replace vacuums with newfies ?

Impressive again :clap_1: .... I didn't expect this wealth of knowledge from you after I got Allifunn's scoop. You are correct on all... they are rescue dogs, they compete as working breed dogs and as Audie found... Josh did win in 2004 (my first Newfie, Belle, was in love with him as she watched him on the big screen).... not typical for giant breed dogs to win so it was exciting for Newfielovers everywhere! They are very gentle and loyal... Nana (the dog in the nursery) on PeterPan was a Newfie. It's funny that people are more scared of the big dogs and those are the ones that will lick you to death if they can get you! :funn:

I do vacuum a good bit and did spring for a good one, but I have had this one for a few years. I change the bag OFTEN though and dustbust in between.... their hair is maybe 3-4 inches longest? :idontno:

josh the newfie

i have no words of wisdom, sorry ! i kept dory in a "puppy cut" with hair about 1 1/2 inches long in summer and still got hair by the handfuls.... not to mention on the spring and fall when her undercoat was shed so it could come in thinner or thicker depending on the season - we had clumps of hair the size of a poodle all over.....man i miss that ....

one piece of advice - don't waste your money on the dyson sweeper for pet hair - it's no better than any other...

It is loosing battle and like Audie said, no magic cure. I walk through the house picking up hair balls in the corners, but :idontno: they are worth it. Doing the medium cut before summer helps as the undercoat starts to shed. It just depends on if you like the shorter hair... I did that the last two years with Belle because the grooming was hard on her as she got older. My young ones (they are 2 now) get de-shedded every six weeks so I can keep the hair long, but even with that it is still a nightmare around here :bang:

Get a golden, they don't shed much. Or maybe we just can't see the hair on the hardwood floors :idontno:
