Has anyone heard of this new database (opened May 2005)? By just typing in a name, you can get anyone's address (including former addresses), phone number and date of birth. I tried it, and I am shocked that this personal information can be made public! 😱 According to the site's owners, it's legal because the data comes from publicly available government records and commercial sources.

According to info I received, you can contact the site and ask that your name be removed. They then respond with an e-mail advising that you must send them a letter requesting your info's removal.

The website is http://www.zabasearch.com ; to have the info removed, the e-mail address given is info@zabasearch.com

If this info can be made public..what's next? Our social security numbers? Height/Weight? Measurements? I'm a little wary about asking that the info be removed, because in order to do so you have to give them your e-mail address as well! :idontno: 😱

Just wait for the day when I can tell what items you have in your refrigerator, by bar code numbers, from the comfort of my own home. I don't know why I would want to know, but maybe one day I will.

You know, the big box stores are already doing this. They could look in their records and tell you everything you've purchased in the last year. I returned something to Target a few months ago without a receipt, and they took my debit card, scanned it, told me what day I'd bought the item, how much I paid for it, and credited my account.

Yes, but they do not know the levels of the items in your refrigerator. With the Bar Code scanner refrigerator coming forth, we may be able to one day know the quantity, to the ounce, of Orange Juice in your ice box.

Ooohhh, I see. Wouldn't that be something!

Well, the most advanced bit of technology we have in our kitchen is a 10 old microwave. By the time we have a barcode refrigerator, you won't have the eyesight left to take stock. :clap_1:

This stuff really doesn't bother me much. You are more likely to be mugged walking through a parking lot, than you are to be looked up on-line and stalked by a lunatic. As for general privacy, don't do anything illegal or shameful and you have nothing to worry about.
The ID theft thing is more of a concern than general privacy or lunatics, and that's happening with increasing frequency these days. Given a "critical mass" of personal data, one can obtain credit, and once that happens to somebody, it takes forever to clean up the mess.

In that case, I hope to have it directly connected, wirelessly of course, into my futuristic portable memory storage product, called Handi-Brain.
