Years ago, Dr. Laura was put out of business for opening her mouth and being hateful.
Recently Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise, Michael Richards and a few others have had their careers ruined or hurt because of what they said.

Well I'm ready to shut down Ann Coulter. Its one thing to be politcally opinionated, and I'm all about free speech, but I'm ready to biatch slap this woman.:nono1:

Yet something tells me she'll come out smelling like a rose.:pissed:

Opinions are like a**holes and everyone has one.
She however, IS one!

"The remarks by Ann Coulter, an author who regularly speaks at conservative events, were sharply denounced by the candidates, Senator John McCain of Arizona, Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. Their statements came after Democrats, gay rights groups and bloggers raised a storm of protest over the remarks.

Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference before an overflow crowd on Friday, Ms. Coulter said,
"I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,' so I -- so kind of an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards."

Mr. Edwards's aides responded with an e-mail message that attacked Ms. Coulter and urged supporters to donate to Mr. Edwards's campaign. "John was singled out for a personal attack because the Republican establishment knows he poses the greatest threat to their power," said his campaign manager, David E. Bonior. "Since they have nothing real to use against him, Coulter's resorting to the classic right-wing strategy of riling up hate to smear a progressive champion."

Ms. Coulter, asked for a reaction to the Republican criticism, said in an e-mail message: "C'mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean."

At the conference, she said she was likely to support Mr. Romney.

The criticisms by the Republican candidates put them in a difficult position because the Conservative Political Action Conference has been gathering for conservative and Republican leaders for over 25 years.

The speakers this year included Vice President Dick Cheney and most of the presidential candidates, whose presence suggested the political influence the group holds in the
party’s nominating process. Mr. Cheney was not at the event on Friday.

Of the major Republican candidates, only Mr. McCain did not attend, but he denounced her remarks on Saturday morning. "The comments were wildly inappropriate," said his spokesman, Brian Jones.

Mr. Giuliani said, "The comments were completely inappropriate and there should be no place for such name-calling in political debate."

Kevin Madden, a spokesman for Mr. Romney, said: "It was an offensive remark. Governor Romney believes all people should be treated with dignity and respect."

Mr. Romney preceded Ms. Coulter at the event and mentioned that she was speaking later -- he jokingly referred to her as a "moderate." But he was not in the room when she spoke, Mr. Madden said.

Re: Ann Coulter STFU!

Well, Dr Laura is still on the air, but I do think she's mellowed out a bit, got taken down a notch or two.
But Anne Coulter is a real piece of work, isn't she?
She and the National Review parted ways some time ago, but Coulter has seemed to continue to do her nasty thing, writing those idiotic books and making those skanky public appearences. And while many Republicans profess to disapprove of Coulter's vicious ways, the laughter certainly is loud and clear on that tape. To me, this latest comment is not nearly as bad as some of the other stuff she's said.
You know, Republicans and Democrats alike say some pretty stupid stuff.
But Coulter is, for me, an especially repellent combination of ego and hatred.

Re: Ann Coulter STFU!

First let me apologize for the title of this thread; I was pithed when I wrote it. And I thought that "STFU" was shorter than "is a blithering idiot".

Second; I'm surprised to hear Dr. Laura was still on the air. She has certainly fallen off the radar. I actually used to listen to her show. Her advise on raising kids is usually right on the mark. Sometimes though I'd have to shut her off.

I guess this thread will stir up some stuff, but I just saw this on the news this morning and about spit out my coffee. The news however managed to leave out her comeback comment about not insulting f*ggots by comparing them to John Edwards; which I'm intelligent and open-minded enough to appreciate the humor.

But it is still unwarranted and inappropriate and I'm putting up my umbrella cause it's fixin' to rain!

dka:drink:

by the way, Ann Coulter used to be a man. She's a transexual.:funn:
Its obviouse isn't it?
She's got big bawls and she's full of testosterone.

Well, if you are willing to accept Bill Maher as a Demo pundit, the reaction to his recent lament that Dick Cheney didn't get killed in Afghanistan (to loud applause from the losers in the audience) has been tepid at best. And that is fine with me, his show has low ratings and nobody cares too much what he has to say. I think the left could best deal with Coulter by simply ignoring her.

I disagree, when the Right Rev Jessie and the even Righter Rev Al say use similar inflamatory speach they are applauded and the rep hierarchy is afraid to call for a public retraction / apology. And when (really IF) a retraction or apology comes, it's lame at best and usually back handed. I usually don't wade into these political threads cause they usually end up with everybody getting feelings hurt or feelings of animosity against someone you used to like. Just so you'll know I still like y'all

i didn't see that, so i really can't comment, i don't watch maher except when surfing through. so, is the tepid reaction(from the Republicans?) due to his low ratings? or something else?

i definitely ignore coulter as best i can(she's a couple of cards short of a deck, imo) but, every now and then she pulls a doozie and it's hard not to watch the trainwreck. with all the attention of the media focusing on Isaiah(sp) Thomas, p hilton, mel gibson, and the like tossing out hurtful labels, it appeared that she did ths exactly for the reaction she could garner, fueling her visibility.

RO, sharpton and jessie really don't make a blip on my radar anymore, it's just the same rhetoric over and over. the (supposed) message has become sooo diluted, as not to carry weight.

Maher likes to yank chains. But AFAIK he really does not represent anyone but himself.
The difference between Maher and Coulter is that she is, IMHO,a mouthpiece for the neocons. She continues to be asked to speak at these events, and she continues to provide lots of colorful, comical chatter for their amusement.
Last year it was raghead.
If the Republicans are indeed so appalled at the things she says and writes, they should say so loud and clear, and they should *isolate* her from their cause.

Maher is so awful and funny. I like to tune in for a good laugh. I find some of his humor rather insightful as well. I also enjoy his "new rules".

true enough Cil - he represents himself.

Is Maher the same guy that has George Carlin on. I use to think George was funny until he became so political. He now seems like a miserable human being! It is hard to watch unless you like getting depressed....
