Dogs (and I don't mean Dawgs!)

I'm starting a new thread because this is tangential to the "dog friendly stuff?" thread. It's clear by the posts and the photos that we have some serious dog lovers on this board.

I want to thank a homeowner in Rosemary Beach whose name I do not know for getting me interested in standard poodles. He has two absolutely gorgeous, black standard poodles. From the moment I met them, I knew that this was what I wanted for my next pet.

Today I was talking to a friend here in GA about our standard poodle puppies (coincidentally we independently purchased them without knowing that the other was). Someone had asked her if she had seen the two black standards on 30-A. She hadn't, and she asked me if I had, knowing that we are homeowners on 30-A. It amazed her when I knew the poodles' names and breeder. So, whoever you are that owns those two dogs, your dogs are famous. Thanks again for introducing me to them!

I hope they find Ariel. My sister has four pugs--two older ones and two puppies. The latter nudged the screen door open that her kids hadn't latched properly and decided to take a walk around town! Luckily they were picked up by local police who impounded the little runaways and called my sister. She's hopping map at Roxie and Florence for escaping and equally relieved that they're safe and sound. She said it's like having two extra teenagers in the house, to have pug puppies!

This has got to be the most beautiful breed of dog out there. So gorgeous. So who's going to own up to being their lucky parent?

Not that I don't have a very good guess, since you are dog sitting right now.

Here's a photo of my Weimaraner baby who died of bacterial endocarditis at Auburn University Veterinary Hospital in January.

I am afraid your guess would be way off. Remember, I did not take the photo. Plus, I am not dog sitting currently. CJ and Mr CJ did not feel comfortable leaving their dog with me with Katrina approaching when they departed. I certainly understand and appreciate their not wanting to burden me with all the hoopla currently ongoing. Guess again, but I ain't saying. They are a good looking group of dogs for sure. 😀

Our old guy Tucker (an English Mastiff) was 180. Tucker is the 10th one down. We lost him last year.

<snip>

You know you have a BIG dog when...

Cil, I am sorry to hear about your Tucker. That's hard. I wasn't able to view your other babies, for some reason. I laughed when I saw the list of ways to know you have a large dog. I saw this a couple of years ago on a great dane site (we have a dane) and saved it because it was so APT!

# the sound of running water makes you jump up and yell, "OUTSIDE!"

# you tell your dog to sit, and he backs up until he finds a chair <--- Ours does this!

# it takes 3 people to get your dog on the scale at the vets

# you walk your dog and everyone knows him by name, but you have no idea who these people are

# you can carry on a conversation with a dog's muzzle firmly in your crotch

#you own a dog capable of pulling someone from a porta potty

# your dog can hide an entire tennis ball (among other things) fully inside his lips and give you that innocent look that says, "What? I'm not eating anything!"

# you carry a tape measure with you when shopping for a new vehicle

# after banishing your husband, the snoring in your bedroom still keeps you awake

# you are hiking with a friend who later suggests that you ought to have an environmental impact statement done on your dog

# visitors enter the house holding their privates protectively

# you toss your dog a ball and cringe when he almost hits his head on the top of the doorway

# you take your dog for a ride and he rests his head on your arm, causing you to make random right turns

# you have given up on water dishes and you just use the bathtub <--- Nearly, we have a five gallon bucket. LOL.

# your two dogs decide to play in the house, and they end up pulling the ceiling fan down -- for the second time

# you have to move over when brushing your teeth because your dog wants a drink

# you show a picture of your dogs and kids together, and the first person you point out is your dog

# while stopped at a stop light, everyone stares as your car rocks back and forth because the dog is panting out the window

# you go to vacuum your car and most of the fur is up there on the ceiling

# you avoid the dogs on your way out the door, so they won't smear your makeup

# the monthly dog budget exceeds your home mortgage payment

# your veterinarian has been able to put in a swimming pool, build a large home, buy jet skis and a personal plane

# you have had to train your dog not to lick dishes, and the dishes are in the sink

# the donuts you put on top of the refrigerator are gone when you get home and your dog has powdered sugar on his nose

# your dog can see what you're cooking, and he tries to assist you in the preparation

# you're holding him straddled between your legs when the doorbell rings, you take a short (but fast!) ride straight to the door

# you purchase a large screen TV and you still can't see the program when he stands in front of the television

# after surgery, your bored pup decides to get up and cruise around the vet's office-- pulling the rolling IV stand behind him

While walking your dog...

# a five-year-old girl approaches to ask, "Why are you walking that baby cow?"

# a car drives by, stops, and backs up to you. The driver rolls down his window to ask, "Excuse me, that's a dog, isn't it?" When you say yes, he turns to his wife and says, "See, I told you so, nobody walks a deer!" and drives away <---Had this happen!</I

# a six-year-old boy takes one look at your dog and says, "Wow! I bet he could eat a whole roll of toilet paper in one gulp!"

# the big people walking the little dog always say "I don't know how she does it."

# you see a Chihuahua and you mutter under your breath, "My dog craps bigger than that!"

Darn it. Well, it was worth a shot. CJ and Mr CJ are wise to take their dog with them. I know I would want mine with me in such a case, regardless of the excellent care he would have received. Better for you too, since nothing is certain right now.

Hmmm. You have a picture of their dogs. How interesting. There are only a handful of people it could be, right? Right?

You may be suprised to know the how many people it could be -- I only have a digital image, not a physical image. (I met another poster the other day, but he does not know that I know who he is.;-))

You would have laughed to have seen me in SoWal last week, staring suspiciously at every passerby, debating on whether or not it was SoWaler. Publix, The Red Bar... everywhere I looked, I saw potential Smiling Joes, or Kurts, or JDs.

I am of course influenced by an hour of Sesame Street (Wegner' Weimeraner, Fay, was on today), Mr. Rogers, and Between the Lions. Everything is going to have to rhyme today.

BTW SJ- my 3 yr. old, Kate, LOVES your frogs.
