Tomorrow might be the official start, but Ma Nature started early this year. I think the second storm of 2007, has already been named.

I have lost all respect for the Weatherchannel/weather.com as a viable news source - they have a countdown clock ticking off how long until the official start of hurricane season!
Keeping my fingers crossed that the latest just brings us that long needed rain instead of being Barry!

Invest 92 might not develop into a storm but it sure will bring some much needed rain to Florida. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like us in Nort West Florida will get much out of it. But something is better than nothing.

Second storm of the Pacific Season has been named--Barbara.

Yep, my mom (Barbara) is very excited that she might be a hurricane on her 55th b-day!

Second storm of the Pacific Season has been named--Barbara.I learned something new. I didn't know the Pacific had its own names. So, is this really the third named storm of 2007? The only other one I knew about was in the Atlantic.

Technically speaking you could say that this is the third named storm of the season, since one could argue that weather is a global process and is not confined to a particular political or geographical boundary. However, the oceans have their own features which the other does not have which contributes to the number and intensity of storms experienced in each of its hurricane seasons such as, salinity, temperature, wind, and ocean current anomolies. The Pacific and Atlantic have two different lists. Until 2005, if a stormed crossed over from one ocean to the other it received a new name. Now if a storm were to cross over from one ocean to the other, the storm keeps its name to avoid confusion.
Also, the National Hurricane Center has put out a statement on Invest area 92 west of Cuba, it is basically a reminder that the system is moving into the favorable Gulf of Mexico and should be watched--not necessarily for intense development, but mainly fot squally weather which could affect shipping interests. I pray this thing comes northward and meanders around the southeast, this scenario would offer a tremendous amount of rain for the parched and burning areas here!

i hope for lots of rain for everyone that needs it, and little or no damage...

This question could go in the random thoughts thread. If the gov't wants us to prepare for the storms, why do they wait until after Hurricane Season begins to encourage us to buy supplies by giving tax discounts? Seems to me the better way to do that would be to begin 10 days prior to Hurricane Season. :idontno:

government minds......

Speaking of Gov't minds, let's hope that Gov Crist is as good as Jeb was when it comes to acting and reacting with regards to hurricanes in Florida.

Looks like "BARRY" is coming your way. Hopefully he will be nice. A little much needed rain and then on to 2 weeks of sunshine.
We are headed that way in 2 weeks and would like to have beaches with sand and blue water.

Right now, Barry is forecast to track across the big bend and into sough Ga. Hugely good news for the fires there.

Is Tropical Storm Barry a message from God not to let Coach Donovan jump to the NBA?
