for Paula! I drank this nectar last night and thought of our own Paula! It was delicious, but I still hope to sample some of Paula's homemade "juice" (hopefully she will hide it better next time!!!) πŸ˜€

We left Dallas on Monday and arrived in Milan on Tuesday. At his time, I am not sure what day or time it is. ( we are 7 hours ahead of CST). We walked all around the city and saw more shoes and handbags than even BR could shake a stick at!!! Saw Leo's The Last Supper this morning...it was unbelieveable to see it in person. A wonderful man picked us up and drove us to Bellagio on Lake Como this afternoon. George's place is between here and the city of Como. He will be very fortunate to see me while I am here. Tomorrow we begin to explore this beautiful spot. The water of the lake is around 68-69 degrees, so I will only experience it by boat. ;-)

Ciao for now!!!

But, I did ask the bqrtender here whqt merde wqs...since I bought one of those hysterical books by the Brit about living in Paris...and he promptly said "SHEET" and I laughed so hard I thought they would kick me out!!!! I have tqlked Mr. K into going to the Ritz for q drink, right down the street...perhaps I shall leave one there? πŸ˜€

Oh sheet... q = a on this dqmmmm french laptop. And, you hqve to shift for a period!!!!! :bang:

Maybe RO has one of those French laptops and he just doesn't know it. I'm happy to know that SHEET is a universal word. Enjoy what's left of your time in Paris.

my great limoncello adventure :

i got the peels soaking in the alcohol today - i just had to smell the concoction, here's the verdict:

the vodka mix smells fresh and lemony and wonderful

the everclear mix smells like lemon scented lighter fluid

Thanks Audie...haven't started my batch yet...will go straight to vodka...not passing go...not collecting $200 and not investing in any everclear!!

I'll have to admit that I've been "The Ugly American" and worn a Gator t-shirt in Roma. It worked to my advantage in Tuscany. I knew that a bunch of our art students were studying there (UGA summer abroad). As I was walking down the street in Cortona (the hill town made famous by Frances Mayes in "Under The Tuscan Sun") I heard "Dr. R."! It was one of my students! I was so happy to see him. Small world.πŸ˜€

oh heck, we were the tacky american backpackers for months! got some stares by just a few older italian mamas on the train. but, we always used our manners, especially in France, and were treated very well by all. we did observe some rather rude, spoiled americans here and there. quite demanding, and probably having a hard time getting around having to figure stuff out for themselves, eating foreign food and all.... and most probably not even making a basic attempt to speak the language

I always try to brush up on the language of the country I'm visiting with the exception of Asia. That is just out of my comfort zone.

This is always my bugaboo. I always try and act like a nice guest whenever I travel, because I have seen my fair share of this ugliness. It is my experience that you get what you deserve. We had a French waiter last night that I just wanted to hug...he apologized for having a little trouble translating the menu for us. I stand in awe of how many languages many Europeans learn and it makes me feel el stupido!

Well, we are coming home to America today...I am ready.

Traveling abroad is a not-to-miss experience, but it's great to get home.

Hubby is halfway around the world. Just talked to him. He will arrive in Sydney tomorrow evening. I couldn't tolerate being on a plane that long.

Back in the USA!
You don't know how lucky you are boy.
Back in the US ... back in the US... back in the USA!
(My apologies to The Beatles.)

We are back on American soil! I am in a slight coma, but Mr. Kitty says it is safe for me to go to bed now. 10 hours on a plane has reminded me to be very nice to him when he returns from these trips. It was oh so wonderful and I am not really proud to say I had to pay duty this trip. I blame it on Mr. K who kept telling me to "buy it". πŸ˜€ I have unpacked my suitcase and returned phone calls.

Glad you made it back safely. Looks like your daughter and doggy have been drenched in the past couple of days. Hope doggy goes potty outside when it rains. Our little princess refuses, so we have to paper the garage.

Big D just arrived in Sydney after being on a plane for two days. Air New Zealand lost his luggage, so he will have to walk into a major business presentation in 4 hours wearing the jeans that he's been wearing for two days on a plane. It's not like if you are 6'8" you can just walk into a store and buy clothes; everything he has is custom made or special order. Size 19" neck and 37" sleeves dress shirts can't be found in many places. And if you go into a store and ask for size 14N shoes, they laugh at you.

Poor baby. :( I feel so badly for him.

 That is the worst.
It is. Normally he doesn't check any baggage; he takes his briefcase with laptop plus a small rollerbag on board. But the UK has more stringent rules -- they only allow one item on board, and of course that would be the one with the laptop in it. So his rollerbag with all of his clothing had to be checked. :bang:
