OK, Cap'n Crazy and I are headed out on a bike trip from Mount Vernon, Va. to Pittsburgh 😱 via the C & O Canal Trail to the Great Allegheny Passage Trail. Sooooo, we are packing up our bikes to head out with a bus full of peeps from Pittsburgh. Our first destination will be a B&B in Mount Vernon tonight and then our bike journey will begin in the AM. The good thing is, is that the bus will pick us up when our sorry butts can't take it anymore  . We'll keep ya posted.

We're back 😀 ! The bike sojourn was fabulous and we're ready to do it again hopefully in September!!!! Day 1 started with a group of 14 on a bus loaded with boxed lunches and wine served en route to Washington, DC (not Mount Vernon). We checked into the Hotel Lombardy and headed off to the hotel's jazz bar where the bonding began with $400 worth of martinis 😱 . Day 2 had us starting our trip at mile 1 in Georgetown where we biked along the C&O Canal tow path towards our next reward ~ lunch at the Old Anglers Inn. From there we biked to Great Falls, Virginia. The Falls are breathtaking! Cap'n C and I have some fond memories of the Falls from when we were dating ;-) . We biked some and rode some to our destination of Leesburg where we stayed at a charming B&B, The Norris House Inn. I would definitely stay there again. Cap'n Crazy and I rode about 45 miles that day and definitely were beyond sore. Dinner was across the street at Tuscorora Mills where the food was again wonderful and there was alot of singing at our table (the beverages might have had something to do with this) ~ our waitress kept bringing down more of the wait staff to sing with us. The morning of day 3 started with breakfast at The Norris House and then off to Harpers Ferry. It would have been great to be able to spend the day there to do some tubing. There were also some crazy people rock climbing there  . Lunch was at the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, WV where good beer and schnitzel was served. That night was spent in Cumberland, Md. We rode into Pa on day 4 with a lunch stop in Meyersdale and then on to Confluence where we biked our last 11 miles to Ohiopyle which was a beautiful way to end our trip. We finished with cocktails and dinner at Highwaters Restaurant. All in all we biked about 120 miles. The amazing thing was that I actually gained 3 pounds :yikes: even will all of the biking. The food and beverages were just too good and plentiful. Now I need to do some biking minus the eating!!! I would highly recommend this trip and itinerary to anyone headed this way. The trails are beautiful. Following us was a group of 500 doing the complete trail and camping at night. They had a week to complete the trail. They probably don't have to work out when they get home!

I'll have Cap'n Crazy posts pics later.

Y'all look so cute in your biker clothes! Merman and I look like stuffed sausages in ours. And we even wear basic black, which contrary to what you might think, doesn't work to tone down the curves.

I know what you mean about doing all that cycling and still putting on a pound or two. It's happened to us. They shouldn't feed the bikers so well.

I think you went on a wonderful trip! I've printed it out so we can do it, too. I have some old magazine photos of the canal you were on, and I always thought that would be a great place to do a cycling trip along, and now you've proved it.

And finally, don't you love a sag wagon.

Excellent trip report. How in the world did you manage to bike the morning after group consumption of $400 worth of martinis?
