Sam, my 13 year old daughter for any newbies, wants a new haircut and she wants BANGS! not side swept bangs...full straight across bangs. Does she realize if she hates them it will take years and years to grow back as long as the rest of her hair? Of course I told her that but she's never had unruly, wavy, humidity hating bangs before. I hope product and flat irons have solved some of these issues since I had bangs. Are bangs going to be "in" for a while? Whadayall think?😀 I'll see if I can find the pic she likes.

Hair Trend 2007/2008: Thick Blunt Cut Fringe
posted by Allan James on Sun 4th of March at 16:47:25
Just when you though that a fringe was only for Emos and that it would be fashion suicide, we bring some great news for you - the Thick Blunt Cut fringe is definitely back in.
We've been seeing it on some of the hottest models in London, Paris and New York, and even our very own Tania has tried it on for size.
So when you're booking your next haircut give this a definite look in - a word of warning though this may not be the best look for you if you have a roundish face.

I posted a reply but it went poof! I was at the hair salon today, flipped through countless magazines and I saw the cutest bangs, with the fringe like Hop posted. I thought my daughter would like it too. She already has the model type thing going! She has asked for the same style!

It's tricky. But you know my deal with my hair...

See? that's the thing. Oh well, at least it won't take as long to grow them out to side slept or long bangs. Sam sort of has a roundish face. Don't let the dance pic scare you...it was for a recital. Normally I wouldn't let her out of the house like this. 🙂 Yes, they are both Sam.

I had bangs like this once, but only because I needed a trim!

She's so beautiful! The bangs would be adoreable on her, I think a lot like the pic Hop posted!
The pics I saw today had the fringe-framing the face, not just above the eyes.

Tell her to go for it!! It is hair and will grow out fast. Every 13 year old girl wants to be trendy...and she is beautiful.

I don't know about the fast part but we made an appointment. Last fall she got part of her hair caught in a flat iron and it pulled out a patch of hair from the root! It has take forever for that to grow back in. it's probably about an inch or so long now. The offensive weapon got tossed in the trash!

OUCH!!! That is scary! I will send you a pm with a pic of my daughter's cut. On a whim when she was in Greece, she got her hair which was below her shoulders cut extremely short. While it is a pain growing out, she loved the experience.

Cut the bangs. If she hates them they become side swept bangs in a month or two and then long layers and then after that they'll blending into the rest of her hair. NOTE: this only works on somewhat thin, straight hair. If you have thick curly hair -- forget fringe bangs all together!

OL, that daughter of yours is so beautiful that she could do anything to her hair and she'd still be able to pull it off. If Sam wants bangs, let her do bangs!!!
(They grow faster than you might think anyway, especially in the summer.)
And if she snips, and hates it afterwards, she'll learn a valuable lesson about listening to the wisdom of her mother.
And if she snips, and loves it afterwards, her mother will learn a valuable lesson about her daughter's unerring fashion instincts.

She is beautiful and I think anything would look good on her. She has grayt hair. I have never not had bangs, so I am glad they are "in". 😀

I love and appreciate all the advise! Y'all are the best. Of course I think she's beautiful too. I'm due for a change myself. Heck, I might go back to bangs. A big advantage for me would be that they would cover more wrinkles and creases! I'll post some "after" pics after the big event.

I've only read part of this thread because after I saw her pics... wow, she is gorgeous! I mean, how could she go wrong either way? But you're reading this from a girl whose always had bangs of some kind - - all my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way (and my hair has a tendency to frizz in humidity). Bangs can be so forgiving when you're having a bad hair day or look fabulous on a good hair day. I say go for it! They'll grow back.

She'll be perty in any hairstyle.
Maybe she could start with long bangs, and then have them cut them shorter if she likes while her hair is dry at the salon.
Everyone has a certain level of hair shrinkage after it's been dried.
I hope the guys aren't reading this.

You're so right Mango....I had to learn this the hard way when I was probably about Sam's age! ( trimming bangs on myself😱 )

she's a beautiful girl ol !
here's the deal - i hate bangs, but only because when i had them my mom would "even them up" and what started over my eyes ended up looking like a rat chewed my hair off up to my forehead. it was torture and because of this i have never had bangs.

Ol, she is so pretty! Of course, I prefer the natural look! ;-) I hear your concern, bad haircuts can turn the most mild mannered teen into an emotional banshee!!! As you know, this will be a good test for her using her growing independence!!!

I think the bangs would be cute on her and they do grow back. Sooo, I think she should enjoy the experiment. If she doesn't like them, at least they were her choice. And at least it's not multiple body piercings! She really is adorable...

Your daughter is so beautiful. I think the bangs will look great on her and they will grow if she changes her mind. Good luck.

OL, I will repeat what has already been said, Sam is gorgeous and will be able to carry off the bangs. Do you ever watch What Not To Wear? If so, you will notice that Nick (the hairdresser) cuts hair quite often with bangs. Of course you are right, they are a bi$ch to grow out if she doesn't like them, but for some reason on teenage girls they don't look bad in the process of growing out. Awww, the beauty of youth.
