This is kind of a long story but my sis has had viral meningitis since before the 4th. She has 3 bad cold sores on her lower lip and when I saw her on the 4th I thought that was why she wasn't moving her face much on one side. She didn't really think about it that much until yesterday when she woke up and both sides of her face are paralyzed. She went to the ER and was admitted last night. I was there when the neurologist came today. His prognosis was not what we were expecting to hear. She has nerve damage and this could last as little as 6 weeks to as long as 2 years, he could not tell us anything because he they just don't know. She is soooo sad. She can't smile or kiss her kids goodnight. She can eat but it's not easy. She's worried about a lot of things. She's worried about how she looks, how she sounds, that she can't work etc... Please pray for her comfort and a full recovery as soon as possible. She has a spinal tap last night and now an infectious disease Dr is being called in for a second opinion. Ever since she was little she would get cold sores on her lips. I remember one time she had 10 at once. That was as bad as it ever got. I get one every now and then when my immune system is down and I'm stressed. I think they're trying to deturmine exactly what is going on with her. I just feel so helpless. Thank God Sam and I were at the hospital today when she got the news. Her husband went home to take care of the Jackson and Delaney and give my mom a break. We'll go over tomorrow to help with them. Thanks in advance for the prayers!!!

Hi All, just got home from a full day of the hospital and babysitting. Lori saw another neuro today and felt a little better after talking with her. She got the results of the MRI and the inflammation from the meningitis is still around her ears and neck. Theystarted her on a new anti-inflammatory and a viral med. The doc said she may regain more muscle control after the infection heals so that gave her some hope. She has a lot of trouble with her eyes when it starts getting dark and the night time. She can't control her eyes and they roll around and she can't sleep. She says it's just awful. She has to have a gel in them to keep them moist and wears patches at night to keep her lids closed. Hopefully we will find out more tomorrow. I went over to my moms to get Jackson and Delaney and brought them to the hospital to see their mom.
They were so sweet. I could tell Jackson was very scared but after being there for a while he seemed to relax more. Their dad took them home after that. Keep up the prayers...we are feeling them all around us.

Oh, and this neuro mentioned Bell's Palsy a few times today so I guess that's what she has they're just trying to find out what all is causing it. She has the paralysis on both sides of the face and that only effects 1 percent of the population so I assume they're just trying to cover all bases. Some tests are still out.

Ok, I missed something. When did they diagnose menengitis???Tell her prayers are going up!
On July 3rd she went to the ER and they did a CAT scan and took blood. She was diagnosed with viral meningitis ( not the deadly one) then. They did not do a spinal tap then b/c she refused it as there is no treatment for viral meningitis. After the bell's palsy set in they did a spinal tap to test for other things too.

Update-- Lori is going home today with a home I.V.! A home nurse will come and show her how to administer her meds. Tests results could take as long as a week so she gets to go home. She saw the neuro this morning and asked a lot of questions. She's hoping for the average recovery time of 6-8 weeks. At first that sounded devastating but after the first dr said 2 years she'll take the 6-8 weeks! It's still going to be hard to keep up with Delaney though. I'm telling you she is a cute as a button but she's a little hellion!!!
Yesterday she was climbing on everything!!! At the hospital she climbed up on this little step in the room by the window and then she just walked off...and of course fell right down. She has no fear! Luckily she's pretty tough. Thanks again all!!!

I am so happy you got some positive news!
You'd better eat your Wheaties and put on your running shoes to keep up with cutie patootie Delaney. I've had mine on all day today and it's been wonderful.
They are amazing little comforters.

Prayers are on their way for your sister, OL. Sometimes being a hellion with all the stubborness that goes with it pays off, especially at times like this for your sister!

I thought I would give everyone a little update. Lori went to the dr today, a reg scheduled appt. She has her good days and bad but today was one of the bad ones. She was hoping the dr would tell her she'll be feeling better soon but he said it could still be a while. She finished the iv meds today and starts taking oral meds tomorrow. ( this kept changing) She sees the neuro on Tuesday next week. She's quite depressed and discouraged that she can't care for her kids the way she needs too and she has to ask for help. I am there when I can be. Next week I'm going to take the kids or go and stay a night or two. Her MIL and my mom are helping too. Prayers are still appreciated!!!
Wish I had better news. At least we know that she'll get better. It's just a matter of time. Today Sam had her annual check up and she was vaccinated against bacterial meningitis. I wish there was a vac for viral. I never want anyone I know to get this.

You are a wonderful sister to try to help her out in any way you can. That in itself is a blessing to her & hopefully this will be short lived!Wish I had better news.
