Potterheads Unite....

I never knew so many people in Panama City could read, but there I was with hundreds of folk standing in line at Books-A-Million last night at midnight waiting to get my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

I got it, read the first few pages, and fell asleep. No, its not boring, I had just been up for 22 hours.

I hadn't finished rereading The Half Blood Prince yet, wanted to finish it before starting book seven. Looks like its gonna take me all day to finish 6 before I can star seven tonight.

Who else is reading it? A great deal of fun getting it, standing in an all to appropriate lightning storm... I thought we were all going to end up with the trademark lightning scars on our foreheads!

The line wrapped around the entire perimeter of the inside of the store, then out and around to the back of the building. Yet it only took 25 minutes to process all of us.

If only the airports were this efficient!

Happy reading to you all!

Philippa is just coming home from a week's vacation with one of her friends, and she and her friend pulled an all-nighter. Like I thought Fyl would do any differently than she has for all the previous books. ;-)

All she'd tell me is that she never cried so hard. About what, she's left me hanging, until I get my hands on the book myself!!!

FBB's copy came in the mail and he and FBB Jr., just returned from the movie. I assume they enjoyed it. I didn't ask. :idontno:

I really don't understand the rush to go out and buy the book at midnight. I was talking to a kid this morning who talked his parents into going to B&N at midnight, last night, to buy the book. I asked if he finished reading it yet :funn:(some kids do that, you know), and he told me that he was only on chapter three of book #6. He couldn't explain to me why he needed to purchase the book so immediately, since it would take him a while to finish reading the sixth book.

Call me crazy, but I just don't understand that. Now if he was going to read the new book this weekend, I could be convinced that it made sense.

Why do people flock to New York City to watch the ball drop at Midnight New Years Eve or stand out in the weather to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade?
Or to California for the Rosebowl Parade? To New Orleans for Mardi Gras?
Why do people travel to Spain for the running of the bulls?
Why bother going to sporting events when you could just as easily watch them on TV?

For the sheer experience of it all. The spectacle. The opportunity. That's the only reason I did it. To experience it. It was fun. I'm glad I did it, and got it out of my system. Now if I could just stay awake long enough, I might be able to read it, or at least some of it.

So, who died? :idontno:

The dog dies in the end.

The butler did it.

The only event listed above, which I could possibly understand is the running of the bulls. All the others are just as questionable as waiting to buy a book or CD immediately upon its release.

GTTBM, you are wise. I was about to shriek in protest. I didn't get my copy until this afternoon. As much as I need to sleep, I'll probably read the WHOLE STINKIN' THING tonight!

If only all my required reading was as fun...

I purchased the book at 12.01 at the Walmart in Quincy (my friend was right about how there wouldn't be a lot of people out there, they're apparently uber religious out that way). I started reading it about 1.30 this morning and read until about 6am. Slept until 10 then started to drive back to Tally (trying to figure out how I was going to read the book by tonight, finish my jazz stuff for class by midnight and work 12-7) when my manager called and told me I didn't have to come in. I then read from 12-8 and finished it.

This surpasses my record from Half-Blood with 3 sittings in less than 48 hours.

And all I have to say was that was ridiculous.

Maybe so, but mine was waiting for me at my house when I got home from camp today.

Ours came in the mailbox today, and Will had one delivered to camp. So we are a 2 copy family.

If you haven't read them, you won't get it. And the movies don't even come close, IMO.

Time to get in bed and make my eyes bleed!!

Don't they sell jellybeans for bleeding eyes, insomnia and whatever Potterheads get when a new book comes out?

I ordered it from Amazon 6 months ago. Guaranteed for today. I have the email from 7/13/07 from Amazon confirming it. IT IS NOT HERE! WTF?

See SmJoe? THIS is why (yet another reason) I went last night. The last two books I had delivered, one on time, the other not. Granted I could've gone today and bought one of the many left over at WalMart. But I would've missed out on the experience. And isn't that what life is all about?

Tis not the destination, but the journey......

I'm still trying to finish 6 before starting 7, but this dang computer and the bottle of wine are making it hard to concentrate, especially since I've already read 6, and know how it ends, not looking forward to bawling my eyes out like I know I will. I cried for 3 days after reading HP6 the first time!

My shrink would be lovin' this.....

Philippa said that if you've forgotten what happened in books 5 and 6, you will get confused since this one really pulls from everything that's gone on previously.

She's not even going to give me her copy until I've re-read 5 and 6!

Oh, and one word of advice from Fyl: even if you're a die-hard Read the Last Chapter First kind of reader, resist the temptation!! Or it'll ruin the whole thing.

I think it is great to see children and adults alike so excited for a BOOK! This is so much than waiting in line for playstations!

 love you!!! Both my kids reread 5 & 6 last month to ensure a smooth transition into 7!!! They both LOVE LOVE LOVE the books! When driving back to Atlanta one year (from Destin) the 4th or 5th book had just come out. We bought one copy...but we had to stop somewhere along the way home for a second copy...quietest 6 hours in a car I have EVER experienced...therefore, I LOVE LOVE LOVE HP    My kids say the movies are pretty good..buut no movie could possibly include all that material!
BTW...picked up a copy of 7 yesterday for Kaiboo...I forsee an entire trip to NOLA noise free...from Kaiboo...now, Cork...that is another matter.....:funn:

I strolled into the bookstore here in Fernandina yesterday morning and bought Deathly Hallows without any hassle. Didn't exactly pay WalMart prices, but oh well.
I've only read several chapters, and it is dark, almost sardonic, with sad events already occurring--so I get the feeling this last one will definitely live up to its title.
I appreciate y'all keeping the spoilers out of this thread.
