Henry and Jeffrey

Henry and Jeffrey came for a "sleep over"...we "camped out" in the back yard. First I have to tell you that I found a great deal on a "camp fire" and a 3 room tent. I had no idea that tents had rooms nor that you could get a propane fired "camp fire".

We planned their stay (2 nights) with swimming, camping, camp fire, movies, food. The swimming went great. The camping not so well...we had made alternative arrangements in the house in the event that this happened  The camp fire went well. Did you know they make "camp fires" that run on propane and don't kill the grass? Well, I didn't, but they do! We made s'mores. I learned that my grandchildren don't like anything "touching" anything else...did hot dogs, baked beans, alphabet macaroni salad (which they didn't like...who knew?!) and ice cream cones, etc., etc.

Our son's uncle and aunt came for dinner the second night they stayed. It was a nice reunion.

We got a "Shrek" movie that had 3D glasses and a "short" to view in our home theatre. We got ready, had popcorn and Henry said "I watched a movie that 1 dragon and that was ok...but one movie had 2 dragons and I was afraid!" Oh my...I could have eaten him up.

The best thing about having your grandchildren (aged 4 and 2) stay and "camp" at your home?...the 4 year old saying (as the 3 room tent  was being erected) "This is great!"...and the 2 year old nodding his head in agreement.

It's wonderful being a grandmom!

That is an awesome story. I know your grandchilds parents must really appreciate you and the effort to entertain your grandkids....I must say, I am impressed that you went to such an effort w/ a 2 and 4 year old. My mom has to take mine on all separate occasions and their not even 2 & 4!! Way to go, I bet you are an incredible grandmom!!!

Save some ideas and energy for when they're 8 & 10! At 2 & 4 I'm sure they'd be happy playing "spaceship" with a cardboard box.
Glad you had funn, you sound like a grayt Grandma.

Some of the best memories I have of my childhood are with my grandmother. I LOVED her, LOVED, LOVED her.

You know, I loved, loved, loved my grandma too. She was a grayt grandma. I remember with warm affection one time when she especially endeared herself to me. I was 16 and going to a "second" prom with my then boyfriend (and now husband). My boyfriend was a couple of years older than I and was in lst year Eng'g school at University. I had worn a dress that my parents bought to my boyfriend's High School prom the year he graduated...then he asked me to a prom, I guess it was really a dance for lst year eng'g students. I had no other appropriate dress to wear and was facing wearing the prom dress again. My grandma, who was living with us at the time, asked me to bring her my prom dress. It was a knee-length, pale green brocade, boat neck dress. Sounds kind of weird now, but I loved it at the time. You should see the pics and the HAIR! My grandma bought "lace" in the same color as my dress but a shade darker. She either made or had made (don't remember which) a snap belted "over skirt" (split down the middle front) for my dress. That lace over skirt transformed my dress. She also bought me a pair of peau de soie heels died to match the dress. I felt like a princess...even with the mile high hair  :floor: She was so good to me. If my husband will help, I try to post a pic of the (before) prom dress in question. Wonderful memories

Oh no! Don't tell me that. I thought they'd "calm down" by 8 & 10 :floor: Thanks for the warning. I'll try to prepare

The older ones still need a little pampering/spoiling/attention every now and then too! I think the grandparents forget this sometimes. Yea, the little ones are adorable but hey, the big ones can help around the house and mow the lawn.;-)

Oh, you guys are too kind.

Yes Johnrudy, we'd love to have your 16 yr. old! By the way, is that gorgeous boy in you 'tar him? I think we'd have to update our idea of funn things for a 16 yr. old though. Hummmm, a 16 year old! I'll put my thinking cap on

Ocean Lover :floor: Mowing the lawn...I hadn't thought of that!

I have asked my husband to help me post the "prom dress" pic. Hopefully later today...and a pic of Henry and Jeffrey too. Right now, my husband's out mowing the lawn...

The photo of Henry and Jeffrey is adorable. Makes me want to pinch those cheeks!

And like Ms. Kitty said, that dress is so "in" today. If you still have it, it would fetch big bucks! Great photo, too!

Your grandmother did a fantastic job on the dress. Also, you and your hubby must have done something right because Henry and Jeffrey are just precious.

 thanks everyone for the lovely comments. You're all very kind  You know, I can still remember that corsage being so heavy that it pulled my dress out with its weight :floor: ...and those gloves  Would you believe we went to the prom in my husband's (then boyfriend's) father's 1959 Cadillac...the one with the "bullet" tail lights. It was midnight blue...AND I wore my grandma's mouton fur coat. :yikes: Lordy!
