Nothing like a BLT made with real fresh drippy tomatoes from the farmers market. Dripped all over my T-shirt so I now have to soak it in oxiclean to get the tomato stains out, but it was well worth it. It's going to be BLT week at our house this week! The first BLT of the season is worth a good cry.Well, I had my first bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo, on thin sliced toasted Italian bread sandwhich of the season today.

I just love it when you sob over wonderful food. this sandwich sounds so good, and I shall have to have one myself this week! I've had only a few BLTs this summer (had a wonderful old fashioned BLT at Don Pedro's for lunch one day, with fries!). I know jdarg is hooked on them - she made some BLT wraps for the beach one day - yummy!

Had my first last week and yes, it was heavenly.
I'm looking forward to my Dad's crop ripening so I can have more.

Oh good, I'm not alone in my worship of BLTs.
I never thought of a BLT wrap to bring to the beach. I will try that. Now if only there was a pasta carbonara wrap...
Oh, and I'll probably make a nice iced coffee to have with my BLT.

Why not? You can wrap just about anything!

I do.
Love me my wraps. Paula, must be on the same wavelength today. Picked my first ripened big boy mater today, but ate it on a roast beef wrap.
and don't laugh, but I know someone who makes pasta sandwiches from leftovers from Sunday dinner, and I laughed, but then tried it and it was good.

I'm starving.....a big juicy BLT with vine ripe tomatoes, the juice running out the corners of my mouth mixed with Hellman's mayonnaise. Yummmmmmm I can fantasize can't I?
Mango as a child my sisters and I used to make spaghetti sandwiches the next day (leftovers from dinner) on soft white bread! Still would eat one if I could.
Now I'm really hungry.
Beach FanaticAuthor
Hmmm, spaghetti wraps? After I'm off my BLT thing on thin sliced Italian bread (in a week or two), then I'll try some wraps. I eat them with the basic stuff in them, but I don't get too creative. But you're tempting me with the wrap thing (but not the pasta wrap). I used to eat sweet relish sandwiches as a kid -- nothing but sweet relish between two pieces of white bread.
Today will be another BLT for lunch. But it's only 6:20 AM and I'll have to wait 5 hours (no, I won't have a BLT for breakfast because I'm going to have my yogurt, granola and blueberries because I'll feel better about having the BLT later if I start the day right!). The nice thing about making BLTs at home rather than having them in a restaurant is that you can put 4 or 5 slices of good bacon on it rather than a skimpy two slices.

I can vouch for JDarg's BLT wraps...delicious!

OK, what's your special recipe for the BLT wraps JDarg? Sounds like they're a hit.
Tootsie, it's only a few foods that can make me cry and the setting has to be right, too. With the BLT, I was eating it in a nice outdoor reclining chair facing the garden which is in full bloom. It really was a special moment. And it was my very first BLT of the season. Usually I only get teary when eating wonderful food with family/friends. But just me and the BLT alone in the garden... sigh....that was an exception!

Paula,
Go to the Fresh Market in Destin and get some of their applewood smoked bacon.
It is a bonus for the BLT!

Applewood smoked bacon sounds perfect. I never thought about using really good bacon -- I just use the regular supermarket kind. I'll probably faint at the first bite!

Paula how about a Soft Shell Crab BLT.
....I wonder if I could get these on the menu?
Beach FanaticAuthor
Soft shell crab LT (CLT?) sounds really good. I'm a traditionalist so I'd have to try both sandwiches side-by-side or simply have one of those wild and crazy days when I throw tradition to the wind! Maybe it would have some other kind of spread rather than mayo to make the CLT extra special/unique. But the tomatoes still have to drip down your shirt to have that first-tomatoes-of-the-season effect. (In Michigan where I am, the tomatoes are just coming in).

Oh man I am so hungry and this thread is killing me. I love BLT's. I have the tomatoes, have to run to the store for bread. Is it too early for lunch?

Where is anyone getting good tomatoes now?
In June and July, I brought beaucoup Creoles from Louisiana, but they are now gone until the Fall crop.
The Hilton has a Tuna BLT at their pool-side restaurant. This was a good sandwich.

My coworkers' husband is a back yard gardener. She keeps us all in tomatoes and squash. Lots of tomatoes up here.

My mother has a garden too. I went to visit on Sunday and brought back a whole sack of beautiful red juicy sweet tomatos.

Mine are pretty much all burned up down here. I did plant a Hot Weather tomato plant recently. First time to try it....we'll see. I'm also cutting back my romas to see if I can get a second fall batch. Rumor is that you can.....stay tuned....
mmmmmm.........bacon......;-)
