 I had Sunkist on my lap in the car.. :yikes: We were on our way to East Texas to see her great grandfather. I was stunned. Even though I was never a huge Elvis fan, I was sad.

Hmmm. I was 13. Dad's secretary was a HUGE Elvis fan- she had seen him numerous times and her work space in the reception area of his insurance agency was decked out in Elvis stuff. I remember thinking she was bonkers. Turns out she was popping as many pills as Elvis was.

A few years ago, I worked with an activity director that was the biggest Elvis fan. Even down to the HUGE tat on her upper arm. I suspect she's at Graceland this very moment...she goes every year.

I was in Memphis in front of Graceland, mourning with... Wait a minute. That wasn't me. I didn't even know of Elvis. I was in the second grade, and I recall Pam Lewis coming to school crying. No one knew why she was crying. She said that Elvis died, and the rest of the class was wondering who he was, and if he was her uncle or something.

I hear that Memphis will be hot as hell, today, making many Graceland visitors sick as they wait in line to see the King's pad. I finally made my visit to Graceland a few years ago, and it was everything I thought it was and more, except being in a very average American neighborhood, and I use that term loosely.

I was a newlywed and either on my way or just back from teacher meetings. I remember seeing it on the TV in our pad. Mr. K was in his last year of law school...last time I brought home ALL the bacon!

I was 16 and driving down the road with my best girlfriend (we had seen elvis in concert just a year or so before). We heard the news on the radio and just started bawling. At that age it was very difficult to understand the reasons behind his death. My Dad was devastated - we had always enjoyed Elvis tunes together. We still do.

I was on the playground at Lanier Elementary School. I remember thinking that it couldn't be right, because my exposure to him was from the "Hound Dog" era type stuff--that's what I had seen on t.v. :(

At work. A girl in our office was a mega Elvis fan. She was so distraught she had to go home. Hard to believe it's been 30 years.

College rush event. I remember being sad for his daughter. As a little girl I stayed with my Aunt Ida alot She was a huge fan, and I think I saw every movie and knew every song. I thought everything she did was soo cool. She wore eyeliner and miniskirts, stuff my mom didn't do. I always think of her when I hear Elvis.

I went to Graceland this summer with the kids and can't imagine what it will be like today. It's much smaller than I thought, and his BIG fans are in mourning through most of the house. It felt sad.

On a funny note, I did embarrass myself and cracked the kids up by freaking out at the Elvis wannabee that was on the tour with us. I turned the corner and there he stood in the jungle room:yikes:

I was 16. My sister and I were at my mom's apartment in Birmingham. She had gone to work. We were watching TV and when they announced his death, we called my mom at work. She started bawling. I remember that day like it was yesterday. So weird how some memories just stay, and others, well, are so much harder to remember. Could just be the simple fact that I am getting OLD.

Just got home from work and heard it on television. I couldn't believe it, I know it sounds strange, but I felt like a distant relative had died. I was so sad because he had "always" been there. He had his first big hit the year I was born and he sang to me until he died, heck he's still singing to me.

Now what's really depressing . . . . it's been 30 YEARS since his death. Where does the time go???????

I was 12 and I was with my mom, we heard about it on the radio in the car. We both started crying. I LOVED watching all his movies. It was one of my favorite things to do on a Saturday afternoon. It was like my "me time". I used to have to sit through many Clint Eastwood and Godzilla movies with my brother.

Well, since everyone is telling their age here...I was 23 living in a little house in Kansas with a hubby and a two year old little girl. (Oh yea, was very pregnant, due in Sept.) (Oh yea, it was hot and the 2 yr. old insisted on wearing her hand-me-down winter coat wherever we were going. I said whatever. She sweated.)

Never was a huge fan but was very sad to hear the news. So sad that such a talented person had to end his life that way. Wish he could still be with us today.

OL your tar! That looks like Blue Hawaii, that and Viva Las Vegas were the ones I remember the best. My aunt would fix me a special little ice drink with an umbrella when Blue Hawaii was on. She'd make it so much funn, we even had little plastic flowers for our hair. When she died last year I insisted on playing Elvis music in my car during the funeral procession. I hope she is spending a good day with him today.

It is BH. Those were my favorites too. I love the story about your aunt. So sweet. I'm betting Elvis is singing to a lot of ladies today.

I love this story. Your aunt is the type of person I wish I could be. Some people just know how to make life funn.

I was 19 and totally oblivious to anything that didn't directly concern me, so I have no idea. Plus, I didn't have the appreciation for his music then that I do now. I mean, when Elvis died, he was a fat old man wearing sparkly polyester! Not someone a teenager would be interested in.

 I liked Donnie too. on my bedroom wall, I had posters of donnie, elvis and michael jackson. donnie and michael were just passing idols. but I grew up on elvis. he's still my boyfriend.
