It is BH. Those were my favorites too. I love the story about your aunt. So sweet. I'm betting Elvis is singing to a lot of ladies today.
She was a sweetie.
I love this story. Your aunt is the type of person I wish I could be. Some people just know how to make life funn.
She was wonderful, I was closer to her than my mom. She gave great parties, loved the Derby, and was always the center of attention. You wanted to be near her. She visited Daddy a day or so before he died. She'd just found out she only had a few months left herself. Her grace and courage to come see him so devasted by the same illness she had, will stay with me forever. True to form she had him laughing, it was a party when I know her heart was breaking. I'd love to be like her.

I liked Donnie too. on my bedroom wall, I had posters of donnie, elvis and michael jackson. donnie and michael were just passing idols. but I grew up on elvis. he's still my boyfriend.
Toots! Talk about another blast from the past: remember David Cassidy of the Partridge Family? He performed last night at the Indiana State Fair. He's still a good-lookin' guy but you have to feel a little bit sorry for him now, doing the fair circuit.

Another footnote--Elvis' last performance was at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis. Like Elvis, it too has gone the way of the wind.

When Mr OL and I were first dating occasionally I would answer the phone and The King would be on the other end..."Hey Baby, this is Elvis" He had me at the first Hey Baby.

I was just 17. My family had move to the windy city from the ATL. I had just graduated hs and started at U of I@ CC. Remember thinkin' how scary that not even the king was immune from death and how sad that he died especially for his daughter. I knew my momma was sad as he was thier idol in the 50's. She had even snuck out of her dorm as a girl to watch Elvis on the tv( I think Ed Sullivan show or, no, I think back then it was Lawrence Welk, she woulda been watchin'), big :nono1: , for an adventist girl, all that hip-shakin'. Whewee, he was smokin' hot. Lisa Marie is beautiful. I
how she honors her daddy.

Cap'n Crazy and I were living in Maine with our infant son. Elvis was scheduled to leave Memphis to start his tour in Portland, Maine but never made it since he was found dead. Sooo sad.

I still remember it. I was riding my bike on the street in front of my house when a neighborhood friend came out and told me.
On another note...I have actually been thrown out of Graceland because of a roommate who could keep his mouth shut during a tour, but that's a story in itself!

OK, I was 12 too. I don't remember exactly where I was, but do remember the conversations with my mom. She had recently been to see him and was sad upon returning from the concert to see him looking so sick as he had gained so much weight. We were all so shocked at the news. Back then, you just didn't hear about "stars" unfortunate deaths and every day misfortune of drug over doses, DUI's, Rehab bla bla bla like what we have become acustom to today. It was very sad! I can compare it to the day Princess Di died.

Good point, it did seem shocking. Mild by today's standards.

GIJoe, I agree about comparing Elvis' death with Princess Di. Very different kind of celebs, but I was so shocked and saddened by each incident - and just glued to the news for days.

I remember this day very well. I was playing in the street when one of my brothers drove up with my grandmother and said Elvis had died. I couldn't believe it. My brother died before he was 30. I remember that day as well.

Was in Jackson TN at the time. You would think the President had died. There was an electronics shop next door to Graceland. I bought a cassette deck there a couple of months later, and I remember seeing lines of tour buses.

So me and three friends were driving from Anchorage to Atlanta back in '84. We had grown bored with everything west of the Mississippi so we decided to drive non-stop from Flagstaff to Memphis. We got there at 0630 on a Sunday morning, and there were already people lined up at Graceland.
We got tickets to the first tour.
As we were waiting in the foyer, my roommate kept saying (in his best Elvis voice) "Where are all the jelly doughnuts. I need a doughnut. Somebody make me a fried banana sandwich.
The stares began at that point.
As we walked through the Jungle Room, the guide explained that Elvis had decorated the room himself. My roommate said, "shows ya what a guy with a lot of money and no taste can do to a perfectly good house."
The stares became glares.
Next up was the hall of mirrors. As we were standing in the hall listening to the guide, Tom (the roomy) said, "Lord knows if my a$$ was as big as Elvis' I wouldn't want to look at it in three banks of mirrors every time I walked through here."
At that point he drew the attention of the guide who asked him to keep his comments to himself.
Before we could get out of there one of the other guys in my group tapped Tom and asked, "You do know how he died, right? He died while he was sitting on the John upstairs."
The fuse was lit!
Tom's hand shot up.
The guide said, "Yes?"
Tom asked, "Can we go upstairs?"
The guide explained that upstairs was private family space and was closed off to the public. She then asked why he wanted to go up there.
Tom replied, "I want to see the toilet where Elvis went twice at the same time!"
KA-BOOM!!!
We were asked to leave at that point.
They didn't even give us a refund!
