Will anyone tell me what a knothole seat is?

Alright you can laugh. I'm not going to be offended because I know I deserve it. Merman and I are going to Family Day at Purdue and the big thing of the day is the football game against Central Michigan. I bought tickets for it because I thought at my advanced age it was about time I went to a football game. I know, I know, you don't know how anyone can not have gone to a football game in their whole life but I assure you if you are me, it's not only possible, it's inevitable. ;-)

Tickets were $39 or $20, and you know which ones I bought. The knothole tickets. I haven't a clue as to what the heck a knothole is. Does this mean I bought tickets that don't have a seat? Are we going to have to stand up for the whole game?

Please be merciful as you explain to me what I did. And if you crack a rib laughing don't blame me please!

Mermy - Imagine a kid looking through a knothole in a fence to watch a game. You're really far back there! Sorta like our tickets we get in the "nosebleed" section at the Rangers baseball games.

We always have fun there - less crowded and fewer drunks! ;-)

I was thinking that it might be a ticket for half a seat -- you know, not whole?

Google it yourself and get back to me, wisea$$, if you think you can do better. I couldn't find anything that it explained it well enough for my poor little sports dummy brain.

I did however, google the size of the stadium because you alarmed me, cp!! The Ross Ade Stadium has--are you ready--62,500 seats and I bet Merman and I are sitting in seats number 62,499 and 98. I'll bring my binoculars. Or maybe not! I was comforted by the following statement from the fan site:

"Once inside Ross-Ade, new sights will greet fans. A new $1.7 million state-of-the-art Daktronics video board, measuring 31-feet high by 68-feet wide, will significantly enhance replays with clearer and crisper picture quality. Additionally, 29 different banners that pay tribute to the Boilermakers' rich heritage and measuring 17-feet wide by 7-feet high, will hang from the concourse rafters."

Y'know, stranger things have happened. This might be a life-changing sports event to me! Who knows? I might get suddenly fascinated by college football. I'm going to be in for four + years of Boilermakers after all...

I don't disagree with you in the least - - it IS a wiseass remark! Ha!
However, I didn't know what it was either so I had to Google it too.

You will have a great time!

That would be considered medium size for a college stadium I think. As a lum of USM our stadium is about that size. Compare is with places like Tenn. with well over a 100 thou. seats not counting the river. You'll love college ball, next thing we know you'll be a season ticket holder with assigned parking! BTW did you mean you've never been to a Purdue game or was that any game? Surely that couldn't be possible.

Tootsie, I'm supposed to bring liquor? For real?!!

cp, you read it right. The only sports event I watch is the Tour de France, which bores the rest of the world to tears (I might be their sole audience :floor: ) so, yes, I've never been to a football game. I did, however, go to a half-time at Butler University (which is only down the street so we were walking by it anyway) last year but once the band was done playing we walked away. I tried to watch but they weren't very good. The game, not the band.

We're going to this game because I am realising there are large gaps in my education that have to be rectified. I'm trying to understand why y'all go nutso every fall on SoWal when the season is happening. Maybe if liquor is allowed it will be funn?

Rita I'll tell you afterward if they put us behind a knothole. Game's on the 15th.

Better find out about the liquor thing I've always had to carry a small container in a purse. But it does make it better to flaver that soft drink. I think the bloody marys are wonderful at saints games..For many years they were the only thing that got fans through some bad Sunday afternoons in the dome/ I love all football games. well maybe not SMU games, that was pretty boring this afternoon (sorry Miss Kitty) :rolling:

OMG! Merm's buy as many inconspicuous container as possible. Only if you want to as Pearl would say, "get your drink on!" If not then take seat cushions ( the bookstore on campus will sell them and think very highly of them) prior to the game. :floor: Otherwise, buddy up with the tailgater's in the parking lot. You have the bootylicious thing going on. Work it gull! You'll never know how bad your knothole seats are. ;-)

Not Purdue, but it IS Indiana--

Knothole Seats are Back; Youth Football Day Announced

Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana University Department of Athletics is announcing the return of the Knothole Section at IU football games and a Youth Football Day on September 15.

Special pricing will be available for tickets in the North and South end zones, traditionally known as the Knothole at Memorial Stadium. These knothole seats will be $5 for youth (8th grade and below) and $10 for adults (9th grade and above). Tickets can be purchased by contacting the IU ticket office at 1-866-IUSPORTS.

"The Knothole Section makes a visit to Memorial Stadium on a Saturday afternoon a terrific option for families and kids," IU Director of Marketing David Lovell said.

Drink mass amounts of wine before the game while tailgating and the hole in your seat won't matter.... (nor will the knot)

Basically it refers to any seats in the not heavily desired areas due to view. Cheap seats, etc. It could be in the end zone, or up really high. You should be able to go to the Purdue site and look up your seat location. In case you need to bring oxygen for the climb up. ;-)

A knothole is a hole in a plank of wood.

In by gone days people who could not afford to go to games, particularly baseball games would stand out side the wooden fence and peak thru the "knothole".
