I am rather new to this board (post Dennis) and wanted to pop in and say hello. I currently live in Dallas but I am very familiar with the BMB area. In the late 1970's our family fell in love with the area and built a vacation home there. I used to get there several times a year, but now I have to be more realistic and plan my trips!
I still remember when you had to drive to the "Jitney Jungle" at the Destin Bridge for "real" groceries. Do any of you remember before the "new 98" was built? Heck, I even remember the old "Museum of the Sea and Indian" on the old 98. Oh, I know, you're doing the mental math. Stop it!
Anyway, I just wanted to make it official and say hello. I have been watching this board for a bit now and have ALMOST figured out the some of the personalities. Thanks so much for being my lifeline to the place I love so much!
Take care,
Donna

Donna, I'm sorta new too. This is really an entertaining board though, don't you think. These folks are so so nice and they really crack me up.
Where are you in Tx.?Beach LoverAuthor
I actually live in Plano - a suburb of Dallas. What brought you here?

I live in Grapevine. Got here sorta accidentally--picked up a sticker at the store in Grayton Beach when I was there in Aug. and decided to check out the website when I got home.. It's great. So many wonderful photos and great people!

I remember back then when I was at Kelly Docks to check out the daily catch. I asked one of the guys there where we could grab a hamburger in the area. I will never forget when he said, "We don't have haburgers in this town, just fish." He was right - there were no "normal" restaurants at that time.
OMG, I swear I am not as ancient as I appear!

My family vacationed at East Pass Motel! It's not even there any more, but we sure thought we were "up town" even though it was a hole in the wall on the bay!!! Great memories!picky

That's my daughter when she was four years old. She's sixteen now. That photo was taken when Seaside had only one beach pavilion and you could see all the way over to Modica Market from the sand. Sure has changed a lot over a dozen years!

Welcome Plano and of course you too, Grapevine!!! Are you going to the Grapefest? Thanks, Sue, you bet I'm going to Grapefest...today. Did you know that Grapefest is THE largest wine festival in the US outside Sonoma. At least that's what they're saying in the paper. Who knew our "little town" was so famous?

Oh, Donna...that's the name of a song isn't it??? The name of this thread had me asking...coming out of/to where...a closet, or maybe to society...are you a DEBUTANTE? Just kidding...you are a great addition to the board! Isn't it great to finally join up after lurking? I love hearing your experiences growing up in the area!

Sounds fun! I guess the most important question is did you discover any wonderful wines?

Just got back from Grapefest.. had fun. The kids enjoyed the games and the rock climbing area. The food was good too!! Sorry, not to hip on the Texas wine though, sad to say. I here there are some good ones out there but I didn't find them today. Maybe because I had the kids with me and didn't venture into the wine tastings or the wine stores. I had one that was ok, I think it was called Three Sisters and it was a Cab mix. Oh well, still had a good time! People watching was good and the music was very relaxing.

Sounds fun! I guess the most important question is did you discover any wonderful wines?Well....as I mentioned, I had a bug and didn't want to risk making it worse with alcohol
but seems like there's always some sort of wine fest going on around here, so next time I'll give them a try and give you guys a report. In the past when I've gone, seems I've always ended up drinking beer and water cause it's usually so darn hot!! Wine and heat don't mix well for me....Meow
Sounds like y'all had great fun! The weather even "cooled" off a bit for you! Didn't make it myself, but there's always next year!

Sorry Sue... was really busy yesterday.. Thanks, we did have a wonderful time.
I bought a Texas wine today at World Market. I talked to the wine distributer there and he said it was a good one to try.. I'll let ya know! I just want to see if there is a really good Texas wine out there somewhere. This is a test. Pheasant Ridge Proprietor's Reserve Limited Release 2001. It's a mix. The winery is in Lubbock
