We finally have had a little rain. It is a very pleasant 79 degrees here. They are showing a 50% chance of rain for us through Thursday and then 40% Friday. But the way the weather is here it can change totally tomorrow. But we have had some consequences as to having no rain. Our nice Mimosa tree up in the front yard is nearly dead. :( The main part of the trunk is still green but just about every limb is dead. My husband is going to try and prune it back near the trunk to see if it might sprout back out new growth. Hopefully we can salvage something since there are a few green leaves on it still. Makes us sad.

Lady, don't give up on your Mimosa. I have several in my yard, and constantly have little ones sprouting up everywhere. We have cut some pretty good sized ones down only to have them sprout back out. I truly consider them to be a weed....only because I have so many and they're hard to get rid of. Pretty weeds though.

I'm sorry to tell y'all that it is raining here again. Of course, I ran my sprinklers yesterday...that might have something to do with it. ;-) Really...this has to be the wettest summer we have ever had! :idontno:

STOP! Make sure that the limbs are truly dead before you do that. If there are still a few green leaves on it, they are NOT dead. Trees are going dormant early because of the drought. Limbing it back like that will ruin the shape of it. Ruin it. Permanantly. You will do a lot more damage to it by cutting it. Topping kills trees, and pruning shrubs back to the ground will ruin the shape forever.

Do a scratch test on the smaller branches. Scratch the bark--your fingernail will work fine on mimosa. If there is green underneath, it's still alive and you should LEAVE IT ALONE. (Or just water it!) If it's brown underneath, go to the next larger branch and check it. If they truly are dead branches, cut only the dead branch off where it comes off the branch before it (or where it comes off the trunk.) Don't cut it flush with the trunk; it needs a few inches to heal.

LadyD, I hope that your mimosa makes it...

I washed my car on Labor Day (Monday) - low and behold we got rain on Tuesday and it wasn't even predicted. Everyone around here can now thank me.

It just poured down in rain here. The bottom dropped out. I just love it. And btw, the Mimosa is not dead, several thin branches were dead and my husband cut some of them off, these were skinny, he scraped a place on them and they were definitely dead, they were brown. He did it properly and it doesn't look bad. But there is new growth coming out on the tree so hopefully it will make it. And there is another newer one growing behind that one. So all hope is not lost yet.

Take it from someone that never waters her mimosa - it will be just fine.

We are really getting a heavy rain now. Not only did we get a good downpour last week that lasted from around 4:00 until around 10:00 but the rain started here today again right as I was leaving work and has not stopped. It is very heavy. We already got around a little over two inches of rain last week. I think we have already surpassed that today. Sure glad to get it but our basement is a mess from last weeks, mud included. Yuck.

But we welcome any rain we get as we are so below normal for the year. Wouldn't care if it rained all night.

Hey Audie , I sent you a private message. Wished I could send some your way. I dread going down in the basement and seeing how wet it is. I unplugged the drains early this morning as they were saying this morning this rain was going to be coming in this afternoon late and boy has it. They are predicting more Wednesday and Thursday but not the 90% chance we have tonight.

it's so dry here the raccoons have learned to pry the lid of the drain i had put in on the side yard and they get in there for their drinking water....

Too funny! Well, I just went down in the basement and there is some water on the upper level of the basement but not near as bad due to the fact I have the drains open and it is running down the drain.

i'd like to drop some poison in there and kill them, but i'm afraid some poor innocent animal would get killed instead. i hate raccoons. they are worthless.

Our heavy rain finally stopped around 9:00 last night. What you are getting is the tail end of the system that came through here. And boy was it a system, but we all welcomed it.

We got about a inch and a half in our rain gauge from yesterday's rain. Sure seems like it should have been more like 3 inches the way it came down so heavily for around 5 hours. The ground absorbed most I am sure, and is saying thank you.
