The main part of the trunk is still green but just about every limb is dead. My husband is going to try and prune it back near the trunk to see if it might sprout back out new growth. Hopefully we can salvage something since there are a few green leaves on it still. Makes us sad.We finally have had a little rain. It is a very pleasant 79 degrees here. They are showing a 50% chance of rain for us through Thursday and then 40% Friday. But the way the weather is here it can change totally tomorrow. But we have had some consequences as to having no rain. Our nice Mimosa tree up in the front yard is nearly dead.

Sigh.....no rain here...man would I love a good ol' THUNDERSTORM!!!so could we, the past couple of days windy but no rain. I went shopping today, my oldest son is 32 tomorrow Oct.17th ,started to buy him a pull over sweater, but when would he need it?? I think its warm and dry from now on......................
hmmmm......can't remember
No rain here yet. Lake Lanier has 51% of its stored water remaining, which is only a 3-month supply if we get no rain. I'm one of the lucky ones with a well, but my water level in the well is not what it once was.
We're being encouraged to ration, although mandatory rationing has not happened yet. I now have buckets in the house to recycle gray water.

Well, they are showing more rain coming in again late this afternoon, this time thunderstorms included. Ending tomorrow morning. We had no thunderstorms out of the rain the other day, just very windy and heavy rain. From the cold front. It would be nice to get about another two inches of rain out of this even though our ground is still saturated from the rain Monday. Will have to unplug the basement drains again.
Wished we could send some your way NoHall.

I heard this on the news. Why no rationing yet? Seems odd.

Me, too. We actually have a chance of rain tonight and tomorrow, but I can't even get excited about it anymore. We need about 3 tropical storms to stall out over us to make it up. It's like being excited about a field goal when your team is losing 63 to nothing.
Here's where this becomes a political thread: The city of Gainesville and now the state of Georgia has pleaded with the Corps of Engineers to decrease the amount of water released from Buford Dam. This has been an ongoing struggle because of the Tri-State Water Wars for years, but the situation has been exacerbated because the Corps admitted that they were releasing too much this spring. Apparently one of the gauges was faulty, but nothing was done to make up the loss.
Not only has the Corps denied the request, they have now said that they are increasing the releases.
Why? Two reasons that some of you will think are darned good ones I'm sure: We are cooling a power plant somewhere in Alabama and maintaining an endangered species of mussel in Florida. I agree that both of these things have to be done, but have those areas looked into alternatives? I'm using gray water in ways that would astound you; what are they doing? Where are the strict water restrictions in those places? I can't find any watering bans in Apalachicola; how 'bout turning the sprinklers on those mussels and forget about your stupid grass? As a landscaper, I'm about to lose my livelihood over this. (Some of my colleagues already have.) We have almost no lake left.
Within the week, if the Corps doesn't change their policy, the state is going to take some sort of action. I don't know how effective the threat of litigation will be to the Corps, but I'm afraid that the people of Hall, Forsyth, and Gwinnett Counties are about to form a militia and overthrow the powers that be at Buford Dam.
I have to go plant some trees now, and pray that God himself is going to water them.

I heard this on the news. Why no rationing yet? Seems odd.Why no water restrictions downstream? That's what's odd. Up here, if you're caught watering your lawn, you get
- a warning,
- up to a $1,000 fine
- your water turned off.

We've had like an eighth inch of rain since yesterday. It's wet, it looks like it's raining and it feels like it's raining ( my body is telling me this part) but the ground is hardly wet. Jeesh, if it's gonna be like this it should pour!!! We need it. It'll prob come during our last home football game fri night.

Random thoughts and more things that made me angry today (cross-reference with "can't sleep" thread.):
- The Corps of Engineers have officially refused to reduce the outflow, citing downriver uses. (To repeat, these towns downriver are not under level IV drought restrictions. We are.) The state of Georgia will be taking them to court over this. (By the time it's settled, I'm sure we'll all be dead.)
- The Corps is letting out three times more water than they were letting out during pre-drought conditions. Go figure.
- I would like a nice hot bath before I take a nap to offset my sleep deficit, but I'm too tired to haul all the gray water outside to dump on my plants. Is anyone else in the lower Chattahoochee having this dilemma right now? If so, I might lay off the ranting for a while. Where the @#$%! is my Xanax...and a freakin' store-bought bottle of water to wash it down...?!?!

That stinks! It constantly annoys me to see how so much water is wasted everyday! Why is downstream exempt? Same water IMO!

We are getting more heavy rain again. Tornado watch boxes around us. Quite a bit of red and yellow over us right now. Thundering right now, and windy. Glad again to get more rain. At least this will help with our deficit. Here's hoping everyone else will benefit from getting some of this rain eventually. It has been very balmy feeling outside all evening. The rain is blowing sideways.

Alot of the ponds around here and even on Hwy 72 in Northeast Mississippi are totally dried up. Including ponds that we always see cattle standing in. Pitiful.

not to sound mean here, but i think a lot of people who waste water have never had to live with a well in their lives. my parents have a well, and after we had lived there 4 years after mom and pop built the house the well went dry and they had to drill a new one. my pop was the official water monitor - and he actually would time our showers. i got used to cold showers then because there was no waiting for the water to warm up at home
