Anyone having sinus or allergy problems?

Is anyone else experiencing problems with their sinuses? The entire week we were on vacation I have been totally stopped up and stuffy sounding with a more on than off sinus type headache and pressure and achy in my ears. I was beginning to get that way before we left for vacation. And Wednesday evening while my husband and I were walking I got this horrible dizzy spell and did a major swaying to the right. I have kind of been a little off balance since. The entire time down I kept a more on than off sore throat, especially in the air conditioning. But you just about had to use it. Beginning to think there is fluid in my ears again. I've had this before. Was fine before that. This sucks.

While I don't advocate antibiotics for everything, this is a case where you must get one. You may even need 2 rounds but get it taken care of. Seriously, you will feel so much better.

:welcome: back Johnrudy, or is that Dr. Johnrudy? ;-) I don't mean to make light of anyone's medical issues, but I really do advocate going to see your dr. rather than looking for a diagnosis on a message board.

Same here. Just went to the Dr. yesterday...

I was diagnosed with a sinus infection. Dr. wrote an Rx for antibiotics and a cough suppressant. My wife's doctor said she had seen 28 patients this week with similar symptoms.

It's been so dry here. I think a lot of stuff is blowin' around. Chickabee in the wind...;-)
Sudafed is a life saver here. You do have to sign for it cuz some people make meth with it. :( :nono1: We use generic wally world brand. It dries up the fluid in your ears/nose. I don't think you're spozed to take it if you have hi bp though.

Lady D's story doesn't make a convincing case for antibiotics. Time and an OTC decongestant are probably called for. Way too many Z Paks circulating out there.:bang:

LadyD,

You probably brought it from Willie World with you. I live on Claritin D 24 hr stuff. Without it, I suffer big time.

I agree, BUT Ladyd has had sinus problems for as long as I can remember! I believe it's time for her to get to her dr.

Like Ms. Kitty, said, don't take advice from a message board, get to your dr.

Well, I have no problem with high blood pressure at all. I am the envy of my office here at work, mine is always so good. I do have continual problems with sinuses, allergies, whatever I have, multiple times a year. But when my ears start hurting I know there is a problem. I started using my OTC medicine yesterday and used the sinus flush kit this morning. Not to mention I have Nasonex and another prescription nasal spray. But unfortunately it is at the house. Hopefully I'll get over it.

Well Biff, I had actually forgotten I had started that thread on here. That just shows you how often I have problems, or keep them I should say. I guess I should have done some checking first. Sorry everyone.

I agree she should see her doctor;all I am saying is that it is a DIFFICULT sell to convince people they have rhinitis and congestion secondary to a viral illness or allergy flare and are thus poor candidates for antibiotic therapy. In the last two weeks I have seen at least 20 people complaining of the same thing LadyD is describing. Out of that number, there was one person I gave antibiotics to, and that was based on the duration and severity of symptoms which led me to believe there might actually be a bacterial cofactor. Many of the patients who I denied antibiotics to gave me fairly dirty looks as there is an expectation they have a 'sinus infection' and need antibiotic therapy. Well, I am here to tell you it is bad medicine to pitch antibiotics at every head cold that walks through the door. The data shows that the vast majority of people derive little or no benefit from a course of antibiotics when they are diagnosed with a 'sinus infection' since so many of these infections are viral in etiology. Furthermore, antibiotics are not candy-liberal use leads to multi-drug resistant bacteria strains, as well as complications in patients such as allergic reactions, yeast infections, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea and overgrowth colitis. Thats my story, and I'm sticking to it:biggrin:

I agree with Skunky, way too many people take antibiotics to readily. Is best to see your doctor Ladyd...get better soon.

One of our doctors here is like skunky and folks get ticked off 'cause he rarely hands out the antibiotics. I have had it for a week or so now and he keeps telling me to take two hot showers a day and a claritin d. Of course...check with your doctor first.

Ms Seaside's dad was German, big nose and everything. He was forever getting sinus "Infections" and always used the salt water up the nose thing. Worked for him everytime.

So, go stick your head in the Gulf and suck some salt water up your nose. Sit back and drink an adult beverage or two. Everthing is good in the morning (or maybe early afternoon).

You're preaching to the choir here. My son (who is now 16) has never had an ear infection and has never been on an antibiotic. I applaud you for not over prescribing.:wave:

Like I said in my original post, I don't advocate antibiotics. :bang:;-)

That is amazing to me....Dylans been on antibiotics a few times but poor Sam...she takes after me with severe allergies and asthma. I hate it that she takes so many maintenance meds anyway.

It's getting to be that time of year again....ragweed season. :bang:

I definitely have been diagnosed with allergic rhinitis in the past and put on a prescription nasal spray and a antihistamine. I bought some over the counter Alavert D-12 and have taken one and now it has me sleepy as heck. Hope I can stay awake, still have an hour and a half before getting off from work. Need to go by Walgreens and get some more Alavert D-12. And some more sinus kit refill saline packs. I have some prescription allergy medicine at home but don't have them with me. And I have refills on them. Only have to pay $8.00 for the prescription.

It still amazes me too. He's just been very, very lucky. Now, he DOES have some seasonal allergies and takes an occasional Claritin & sometimes Patonal eye drops, but that's about it.
