stolen bike

My daughter called me in tears today over her freshly stolen bike. Her roomate's folding bike is in the background of the photo. I think we'll adapt, because Sarasota is as unsafe as anywhere I guess.

Whoever nicked her bike did so with a thought out plan. Those cables are made out of braided wire and can't be cut cleanly as in the picture without a pair of center pull wire cutters. Center pull what? Exactly...not really something Average Joe has hanging on his tool board in the garage...especially, a pair that is large enough to cut a cable that size.

I'd wager that it was a crew...

The campus is by the airport and a lower shelf neighborhood. My daughter's bike was cheap, but looked better than almost every other rusty bike there[salt air]. My idea is to remove the temptation instead of riding a gnarly bike. The Barney Fife campus police guesstimated it was the work of early A.M. methheads. They never sleep, and need things to do. Metheads with mechanic dads say I.
