disturbing trend seen shopping

I'm noticing the disabled and morbidly obese like to talk on the cell phone, arse planted in the battery powered shopping buggy, whilst blocking the aisles at Costco, Walgreens, Wal-Mart etc. Is anyone else noticing this or am I the disabled party?

It isn't a phenomenon limited to them - I've also seen it with cars, shopping cars, and the just the human form.

Preliminary research shows that cell phones emit an electromagnetic field that impairs brain function and causes one to be unaware of one's surroundings.

Extensive use leads to an inability to communicate with others without using an electronic device and sometimes requires the surgical removal of said electronic devices from an ear (or other orifice depending on the mood of the general population).

What is with blocking the aisle? I don't care if you want to be in a buggy just allow enough room for the rest of us to get thru. It doesn't matter how much you say excuse me they never seem to hear you or just don't want to hear you. I know this sounds horrible but I always get a laugh when I think about tipping them over I know thats awful. Oh well!

How about the trend of tourists that feel the entire group must go shopping? I understand a couple of people with perhaps a list of likes/dislikes much like my family did years ago, but an entire family of 10-20 people clogging Publix on a Saturday afternoon? I guess the reason this came to mind is that most all of them have cell phones, couldn't a smaller group go and text/call on a cell phone with any questions?

Flatten their tires. I've always wondered what a "hover round" tow truck would look like. Or for that matter a "fatty" trying to change a tire.

Amusement parks such as Disney World / Land, Universal, and others are having a hard time because of this. There are so many overweight people requesting electric scooters that the parks are having a hard time accomodating true hadicapped patrons.

Being obese is a handicap for many people.

There ARE people who are truly handicapped because of obesity, but there are also those whose "condition" could be best described as them being a lazy fat arse who doesn't want to walk across the amusement park or store.

The latter should be ashamed for taking limited resources away from people who ACTUALLY need them.

I've always wondered why ALL the retired couples go grocery shopping at 5pm when they've probably had all day to shop? Unless they spend their entire day in the doctor's office.

Nap time is over, and early bird dinners or Publix is job one at 5pm.

Not a very tolerant group here.

Hopefully you are never in need of such a device, or if so maybe others will be more tolerant of your situation.

As to getting elderly, it happens to everyone or you die before then.

My dad had to use a scooter due to his heart condition, no he did not talk on a cell phone while using it. But just possibly he did not get out of someone's way that was in a hurry and had no patience, but it was never intentional.

I would gladly wait many minutes to allow someone to move their scooter out of my way to be able to have my Dad back.

My SIL I guess to those less tolerant would be considered heavily over weight. She has difficulty walking. Her condition is due to a thyroid problem. She tries to diet but without much sucess.

Possibly unless one knows for sure what causes one to be in a certain condition it would be the humane thing not to judge. Not everyone is without flaws. Someone are physcial and some, are well just rude.

This thread is very sad to me. :(

The one that slays me is the bimbo with the glassy eyed stare ambling (Mostly standing) in the middle of the aisle and won't move to save her life. It doesn't matter if you are in front of her or behind her, she just stands there with this blank look on her face. Say "Excuse me" to her, she says "OK" and doesn't move.:bang:

I suspect that the peroxide used to bleach her hair has migrated down the hair stalk, through the follicle and into whatever brain there ever was and turned it to mush.:funn::funn::funn:

This thread is an observation on the state of our society. Overfed people busy on the cell phone blocking aisles is very sad. Originally the carts were for the truly handicapped. Now it's the domain of BMI challenged folks, many who need to be walking. I also see parents giving kids rides on these contraptions. Perhaps I should shop at night with the meth heads. At least they get what they need fast!

Wal-Mart at 1am can be a really interesting place. :yikes:

I always end up with someone wanting to talk to me ...

What is really interesting is how sometimes when I go to Publix (even during season) everyone is nice, and paying attention. While other times everyone seems like they have just gotten some sort of news that really ticked them off.

I hate that. I know what you are talking about. We are tourists there but it is just my husband and myself. And you cannot get to anything down any aisle in Publix hardly on a Saturday afternoon for what you said, you see everyone in the vacation party together in the store. Two could be shopping while the others are unpacking at the place they are staying or are out on the beach, etc. And saying excuse me does absolutely no good, they totally don't pay attention to you wanting to get a loaf of bread, etc. where they are standing and they aren't about to move. :idontno:

Here is a story --

Many many years ago, before Bdarg and I were married, he challenged me on several of my shortcomings.

Anyway, apparently I used the word "can't" quite a bit, when actually "won't" was more appropriate. There were certain things that I didn't want to do due to laziness, apathy, whatever.

So - he told me that my "can't" attitude would someday manifest itself inside of me and turn me into a big fat lazy woman who would have to use the motorized cart at the grocery store.

I immediately had the mental picture of me, with my butt hanging off either side of the seat, throwing that motorized shopping cart in reverse, and backing up like a big ol' dump truck. Beep beep beep. Loading my cart full of cookies and soda pop, and endruing the scorn of the skinny workout moms in their cute workout clothes. It was truly a come to Jesus moment.

I know that at some point in my life I may need some motorized wheels in the grocery store, but it will only be if I am injured or ill. Just shoot me if my only reason to ride is because I am a lazy larda$$.

Thank you Bdarg.;-)
