Third time of hearing gun shots off E. Pt. Washington and Cabbage Rose Ln.!! Deputies came out (45 minutes later with a bad attitude) and pretty much said "oh well". . It is not from State park hunters, it is within probably 100 yds. from my house and my neighbor who knows guns says it sounds like a .357. If anyone in the area of Cabbage Rose Ln. hears these oh too frequent shots, usually around 9:00-10:00 PM - PLEASE call sheriffs dpt. and have them make someone accountable, where are the bullets landing???

Not disagreeing with you, sounds annoying as all heck to me, but can't you shoot whatever you want in the unincorporated parts of the county?

Sounds like drunken target practice.
Can you get them cited for something like "unsafe discharge of a firearm" ?
A .357 w/in a hundred yards of your home definitely qualifies in my book.

Oh, just to warn you...the civil war reenactments at Eden should be happening soon. They get very loud ..particularly the cannons.

9-10 PM (also referred to as "night" or "after dark") is not exactly the best time to "sight-in" a gun for hunting season and any decent hunter will hit something with the first shot, not blast away!

I agree, but can tell you from personal experience, that calling the sheriff will do absolutely no good. I have had 2 different neighbors that shot guns off at all times of the night and I would call about them all the time. The SD told me that there is no law against it and the best way for me to handle it would be to try to talk to them about it. That didnt go over very well and they just did it that much more. And these people lived right next door.

My neighbors with the incessantly barking dog & overly bright security lights are looking pretty good right now! ;-)

You can do everything right about picking out a place to live, and still be tormented by any one neighbor. That's very frustrating.

Oh man, is that the truth. We have had some doozies. The best was probably the one that ended up having to be removed by the SWAT team and they had to use our house and yard as the command post.
My next home will come with at least 10 acres and I am going right in the middle.

Yeah...I hate guns and gunshots too. But hey..forget West Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and forget Kentucky. Florida is by far the most redneck, white trash state in all of the union. Are you really surprised little E. Point Washington? I mean come on!!! Wake up!

I cannot imagine this as being so with all the retired wealthy people that live throughout Florida.
I can tell you for a fact certain areas of Memphis are considered redneck and white trash, not to mention worse. And gang activity is rampant here.

I haven't looked up local gun laws, but I'd bet that there are rules against firing guns within 500ft of a residence, even if you live adjacent to a hunting area like the State Forest.

Could be the rednecks on E. Pt. Washington that hang out in their garage and drink beer every night.
We heard some last weekend. Sounded like it was right behind us (we're in Bay Magnolia).

From my house in Midtown, you could hear gunfire almost every night. The interesting thing is that our neighborhood was pretty safe, as much so as you could be without moving to Collierville.
We had people knocking on the door almost every day, ostensibly asking to rake the yard, but really casing the place...
We had a similar incident down here last fall. My neighbor called the Sheriffs on the guy and two cars came out and hauled him off. Imagine that happening in Memphis...
Moral of the story - A drunk neighbor shooting off his guns is obnoxious, agreed, but it's unlikely he is a predatorial sh**head intent on stealing your stuff or worse.

TreeFrog, we live in a nice neighborhood called Lakewood Hills in Raleigh. Most of the homes in this neighborhood are very large and have huge yards. We never have heard of a break-in here in our neighborhood nor have we heard any gunshots. I feel our neighborhood is safe enough to live in without having to move to Collierville or beyond, for now that is.

SO SO TRUE BOB! Before I moved to Grayton my beloved and I were living in the most expensive neighborhood, gated, patrolled and what we always felt was the safest place one could live in. One night while grilling out and watching a movie our annoying neighbor pounded on our door then ran back to his house, came back pounded again....this time my husband jumped up went to his house and told him he was calling the police. He made me and our daughter sit in the living room while he talked with this maniac. I heard them arguing on our front steps and I walked to the front door, which was wide open....our 16 year old daughter behind me. We watched in horror as our neighbor pulled out a .357 and put the gun to his face and well you know the rest. A hollow nose bullet between the eyes. The maniac ran back to his house....as I was holding my husband the maniac ran out and grabbed me shaking me and saying he didn't mean to do it...he was sooo sorry. Needless to say he was drunk on whiskey, had a bad day at his work (the post office), and was a crazy angry man who had come home from Viet Nam never to be the same....and of course passed that on to us! Every time I hear a gun I experience the feeling of uneasiness....you don't have to live in a State that's known to have white trash rednecks. This was not Louisianna, Mississippi, Tennessee, or Florida. It's a state I will never say the name of again!
3 months later I came to "sift sand" on the beaches of Grayton for a month....and stayed. NEVER NEVER take things for granted! And NEVER EVER expect that justice will be done in the courts. If it is....you are one of the lucky ones. He served less then 5 years....worked everyday outside of the prison....and got off for good behaviour. His wife worked for the "best" and most "crooked" attorney in town. The DA's owed him and did not want to handle this case. In fact there were 4 different ones in 7 months...the last one never opened the file until I met him the morning of the trial!
Sighhhh Kat

In what way is Florida more diverse? Not all of Tn is redneck, white trash by any means.
As to who breaks the law, certainly it is not limited to a class of people, wealthy well to do, break the laws as often, I really do not like to label anyone.

Thank you for leaving out my state. It's full of rednecks, too, but I'd hate to have to whup you for pointing it out.

The retired wealthy live on the edges and in the bigger towns, from what I've seen. I spent a summer working at a camp in Central Florida. (Oklawaha--18 minutes by ambulance from Ocala--yes, there is a story there--and a little closer to Leesburg, home of the closest movie theater, but no hospital.) The residents of the area were downright scary. They seemed to be the type of people who thought "Deliverance" was a funny sort of movie.
