Saying Goodbye to My Furbaby

My heart is breaking. :(
Our big fat loveable Tabby cat Roobie who we have loved and "found" MANgo 14 years was diagnosed with throat cancer about 6 weeks ago, and he has gotten to the point where we decided that tomorrow we will most likely say goodbye to him so he doesn't suffer. Today he didn't eat his food, and his breathing is labored.
He's chatty, meets and greets everyone, always purring and looks happy, (even now) and has been the only pet my nephews who live locally have known.
Even though we have been preparing ourselves for this, it still hurts.

I  you, Mangy! I never even knew pets had pets. Roobie, is that the male version of Ruby? He is one pretty boy. Thoughts and prayers from this way are headed to your way. :(

 So sorry for you and MANgo. I have done the same thing with my beloved dogs, Bernie and Petunia. God bless you both, and give you strength until the memories of Roobie bring smiles instead of tears.

Oh Sweetheart...My heart goes out to you and MaNgo .
You're brave :wub:parents to help him over. What a handsome regal boy ... with such a gloriously bodacious tail! I'll bet he flicked and twitched it proudly & often!

Losing a pet is.....tough. I had to bury my parents' 18-year-old cat a few weeks ago. My poor dad still hasn't gotten over it.

Our 12-year-old Golden is in the early stages of kidney failure, so we have a tough decision of our own coming probably sooner than later.

Hang in there.

Thanks everybody for the kind words, thoughts and PM's. It means a great deal to MANgo and I. :wub:For some reason the lump in my throat isn't going away. It just didn't seem like home when we walked in the door and there wasn't a Roobie to greet us. Roobie though peacefully fell asleep in my arms and purred the entire time. My cell phone was turned off in my purse, and after we left the vets' office it turned on by itself and it makes a bell like happy sound when booting up. We like to think that it was his way of telling us he was just fine.

So sorry about your loss. It sounds from your post it was honor for you to get the time you had with him. A while back a friend of mine came into my office and broke down. He had just laid his dog of 15 years down. It was quite humbling to see this grown man crying in my office. Once he regained his composure he told me the tears were his way of "honoring that dog". They were not sad tears but tears of a life well lived. He called them "honor tears". My thoughts are with you.

Mangy, I know with all of my heart that all the furbabies on this board that have crossed that rainbow bridge are romping with your's tonight. They are having a huge bonfire on a beautiful beach, and thinking how great it is all their "peeps" knew each other.

This is dedicated to the memory of Roobie by all
that love pets of all kinds

Poem For Cats
And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

This is usually about the time that Roobie would come and ask me for his midnight snack, so I just wanted to let y'all know how comforting it is to read your words. Minnie that poem is touching, thank you, Sorry for your loss RO, that must have been tough for you, GB and the boys. GTTBM's vision of all our furry friends by a bonfire celebrating their sowal peeps warms my heart, especially while I watch the first snowfall of the season, which ironically it was snowing when we met Roobie.
Love ya all.

Oh, Mango...My heart just goes out to you. Roby looks almost exactly like my Maine coon cat, Cecil. We had to have him put down a little over two years ago and it nearly killed me. We get so attached and Cecil was my constant companion for 14 years. It helps to know that we are able to do for them at their time of greatest need. You will feel thankful for this, in time. The thing I did that was most helpful in the weeks after losing Cecil was putting together a little scrapbook of his pictures over the course of his life. I was able to laugh through the tears. But also, the pictures of Cecil when he was healthy and vibrant, compared to some of the last ones, were reassuring in that it was obvious that his time had come. I still think about that cat almost every day and miss him terribly. There is something very special about these big ginger cats, I think. I am thinking about you and wishing you well during this challenging time.

Mango, I hope you and MANgo are doing ok. This thread brought back so many memories for me of my beloved 14 year old Dobie Molly that we had to put down a few years ago. I too still think of her daily. I am also reminded of all the furbaby's my dad and stepmom have had to put down. There are many. You see when this family gets an animal they are with us for the long haul. I am very thankful that dad and Judy instilled that in me. I am so thankful for all the people that post on this board that love, appreciate, and take care such great care of their furbaby's. I will be thinking of you guys and hope that soon, the grief will give way to all those happy memories of Roobie.:wave:

Minnie, this is beautiful. My eyes are full of tears.......I want to be like God's feline spirit. Yes, cats are quite able to deside everything for themselves!
