We were in Las Vegas this past week and these commercials were running constantly on TV. I personally have not set foot in a WalMart in about 5 years, because of personal dealings on my end with their health insurance coverage and treatment of their employees.
What do y'all think about this? Do you shop at WalMart and why?

They were thinking either
A) There are a lot of incontinent old people who will probably have visitors over the holidays and will need something to drown out the reek of urine in a way those subtle and delicate Glade Plug-Ins can't.
B) Camp Creek Kid's family may be in from Utah...we must do something to hide the vomit smell!
They were there before Halloween and I thought they were to ward off the evil spirits.Beach Fanatic
Here's some trivia for you from a few years ago -- not sure if it still holds true today, but out of all the walmarts in the world, the one in Destin had the highest dollar volume of sales for wine, and the one in Panama City Beach had the highest dollar volume for beer sales.[/quote]
I don't doubt that for a second. The entire beer aisle in PCB was cleaned out by 7:00pm on check-in day.

I absolutely LOVE the $4 prescription drugs. I only take one medicine. I was paying $129 per month for it. Then, I went to Wal-Mart on-line and printed out the list of $4 drugs for my health problem and took it to my doctor. He switched me to one on the list. Needless to say, at $125 per month richer, I am very, very happy. The employees are always very friendly to me at the Destin Wal-Mart.

I never knew that Walmart sold kegs until I was in PCB for the Gulf Coast Triathlon (the one during spring), and I had to park near the Walmart on middle beach rd. While walking through the parking lot, I saw no less than ten cars being loaded with kegs, and the people didn't seem to know each other.

If you think the produce in Not-So-Super-Wal-mart is crappy, let me invite you to Kelly's Grocery Store, located in Freeport. I should take photos the next time I'm in there. Every cashier in there has a cough, year-round, and I'm not sure if they have the Flu or if it is smoker's hack, or a combination of both. I used to think that Winn-Dixie was the bottom of the barrel, but I'm telling you that NotSo-SuperWalmart looks nice and shiny compared to Kelly's.
Every time I find myself in the parking lot of the Bluewater Bay Winn-Dixie, I'm surrounded by Walton County plates. I always assumed it was because of problems with Kelly's, and it's interesting to hear confirmation of that.
As for Walmart, they only have low prices as long as they have to compete against other stores. Once they get their effective monopoly, they turn around and raise prices. When we moved down here from Tennessee, our grocery bill went down, even after accounting for the lack of sales tax on food here. In Tennessee, we shopped at the 'always lowest price' Super Walmart in Union City. Here, Publix hadn't moved in yet and we were shopping at the FWB Albertson's, which was supposed to be the most expensive grocery store in the area at the time.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly about Wal-Mart. (My view)
Wal-Mart in the beginning was a Good thing, Sam ad it setup that they only bought and than resold American made products. Most products were bought from small business's and kept rural America thriving. Than the Bad, Sam passed on, The cooperate gurus went on a by it cheap and sell it fast, hence Mexico China, etc came into play. The Ugly, Now there is a huge void in Rural America were these business's once employed hundreds and thousands move out of America, and the few that could found work at the very Wally World they once produced the products for working at minimum wages. Yes.. the American dream is real.... If you live in Mexico JMO.

What's wrong with Mexico & China?

For future reference, tell your husband that, as long as he doesn't have produce items which need to be weighed, he can also check out at the "Jewelry" counter and the sporting good counter, which are usually not nearly as busy as the front counters during spring break.

As I apparently continue to reveal my vast resume. The wally world of PCB is normally in the top 10 list nation wide for most sales. I worked there at the end of the season a few years ago and in the "employee area" (see broom closet with vending machines and microwave) they had a huge sign with the current years sales, at that point it was on the high end of 8 million and this was before Black Friday.
Oh and the PCB wally world is the place to go to get the black friday specials as they are DEAD on that day in the morning. At least compared to the he!! on earth that is the wally world in Callaway.

I am pretty sure that happened in California as well...at least twice in recent memory! I am of the opinion that legitimate economic progress in Mexico benefits both the US and Mexico.

I hear that Lynn Haven will soon be getting a NotSo Super Walmart.

I hear that Lynn Haven will soon be getting a NotSo Super Walmart.Where is that?

Lynn Haven is basically, Panama City north. I believe the NotSo Super Walmart will be on Hwy 77. Currently, I don't think Panama City has a NotSo Super Walmart. They just have the regular one, without groceries, located on 23rd St.

I live in a small rivertown and the closest shopping is WalMart.

I drive 15 minutes further to get to a Target....which I prefer...especially their end cap clearance..you can get some great deals.

If I had to judge Publix by that measure, I'd never have groceries. That place smells like Ye Olde Holiday Whorehouse this time of year.As a nurse I agree with this $4 generic drug deal...Meijer however offers some free...last I heard Wal-Mart had more cash than Meijer and when is the last time you picked up a prescription in the back of the store and didn't leave with something else.....

WalMart really is a terrible company...they exemplify the worst of this country, and capitalism in general. My reasons are pretty much the same as Beachbummett's. The people that make a living wage (I think there are about three per store) have 100% coverage. Everyone else has to buy their own insurance out of their paychecks, and it covers nothing. These poor people still get a huge bill, which they of course can't pay. The doctor ends up writing off the cost -- so, every doctor in this country is basically subsidizing Wal-Mart.
I do, however, really respect the leadership they have shown by introducing the $4 generic drug program. If the $4 drug formulary were used by everyone as a first resort, we'd no longer have a healthcare crisis in this country.

If I can't buy it at Carousel, Dollar General or from a man on the side of the road, I don't need it.

Ahhh. I went to a Walmart in PC with Mrs. Hop for Torre Rosa stuff, but we were both in "scoop and run" mode, so I didn't notice what sort it was...("Scoop and run" is my usual mode in Walmart! :leaving

The first time I stepped into Kelly's I was nearly knocked over by the smell of rotting produce. What a place!

The Destin Target is particularly good for that since they don't turn over stock as quickly as the one in Mary Esther does. (I never found good clearance stuff there) Best recent score- a Tivoli Model Three radio for $50 instead of $200.
