We are driving on I-10 right now coming through Pensacola. The rain is bad and people are driving with their flashers on. Dont they realize that this makes it hard to see if their brake lights are on or not???:bang:If their lights are on then why the flashers??? Then why drive in the left lane when no one is in the right???

Question: If you put your flashers on during a rain storm - what is the reason???

I thought it was to use caution....:idontno:

At first I thought we were talking about a different kind of flashers on the interstate...glad it wasn't that kind.

You got me all excited for nothing. I didn't know that "flashers" meant hazard lights.

When it's raining really, really, really hard, it's tough for me to see tail lights. If it's raining that hard, I'd rather see the hazard lights on, maintain a bigger interval, and assume that they'll hit the brakes at any second anyway...

...but maybe that's just me. :idontno:

I thought you meant you just got Flashed....you know trench coat flashed. I think it has happened to a few of us, huh?

Oh, and I don't know why people put their flashers on....I am thinking so people will see them better? :idontno:

Wait a minute, you're SoWalling on the road, and complaining about other people's driving? :floor:

I don't know about Florida, but I'm pretty sure that, technically, driving with your hazzards on in Georgia is against the law...
Probably, for that very reason...

I just read on AAA that during a rain storm you should drive with your lights on and if you need to pull off to the side of the road, then use your flashers/hazard lights to alert other drivers that you are there.

Stay safe IBD!!!!

  1. I am not driving, I am riding , What better way to catch up on SoWal...
  2. Sorry, no nekkid males or females on the side of the road here! I knew that is what you nasty minds would think about and that is why I love ya!!!
  3. Flashers/Caution/hazard lights - I know people want other drivers on the road to see them - but if their lights are on then I can see them. If I could not, then I dont need to be driving and then I would pull off the road and turn on my "flashers" . When is is torrential rain (like it is now) and the rear lights and the hazard lights are flashing at you it is harder to see if their brake lights are on or even a turn signal. :idontno:

I've noticed that before on I-10. I guess that's just something they do down here. We never did that in the Chicago area, and we definitely didn't slow down!

Actually, my laptop. I would go crazy trying to email from one of those small PDA thing a ma jiggys!!!:floor:

Thanks OL for the AAA update and singingchicken also. That is what we thought. I am assuming that it is illegal in Fla and hope Alabama and Mississippi and Louisiana also. BUT I dont think a Trooper will be pulling someone over in the rain to issue a citiation!

I believe the reason is for people like me, who in a torrential downpour can barely see the road, much less regular taillights or the back of a silver car. The hazard lights are much brighter and makes the vehicle in front easier to see. But, I do think it is technically illegal.

I'm guessing an officer would have to be having a really slow day to ticket somebody for driving with them on. Besides, if it's raining that hard, he's not going to want to get out in it, either!

well, some don't run with lights to help keep the law off their backs and others think that they get better gas mileage without burning them, while another group doesn't like to replace their headlights when they burn out. That leaves a remaining guestimate of about 5% who use headlights at night. Actually, E. is so well lit that you don't even need headlights while driving at night -- seriously, and that has gotten many people stopped, because they didn't think to turn on their lights.

Then why drive in the left lane when no one is in the right???

We normally travel in the left lane because it seems to have less standing water. Last time we went to P'cola though, both lanes were underwater so please be careful out there!

Oh, and flashers are annoying to me but I don't know why. Last Saturday a policeman in Destin was behind a car with flashers on (in the rain) and he didn't pull the car over.

From the Florida Driving Handbook:

Driving Slowly. Drivers often do not realize how fast they are catching up to a slow vehicle until they are very close. If you must drive slowly, alert following drivers by turning on your emergency flashers if it is legal. (Laws regarding the use of flashers differ from one state to another. Check the laws of the states where you will drive.)

So obviously it is legal in Florida.

I'm going to go out and turn on my flashers right now. The rain is heavy. With interstates having minimum speeds of 45 mph, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that someone going less than 45 SHOULD use their hazard lights to alert people to slow moving traffic.
