Flashers on the Interstate!!!

We are driving on I-10 right now coming through Pensacola. The rain is bad and people are driving with their flashers on. Dont they realize that this makes it hard to see if their brake lights are on or not???:bang:If their lights are on then why the flashers??? Then why drive in the left lane when no one is in the right???

Question: If you put your flashers on during a rain storm - what is the reason???

I believe the reason is for people like me, who in a torrential downpour can barely see the road, much less regular taillights or the back of a silver car. The hazard lights are much brighter and makes the vehicle in front easier to see. .....

Same here so I automatically slow down. I don't wanna get rear-ended.

I'm going to go out and turn on my flashers right now. The rain is heavy. With interstates having minimum speeds of 45 mph, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that someone going less than 45 SHOULD use their hazard lights to alert people to slow moving traffic.

That's a good point. I was thinking about it in church tonight (ha!) In awful, heavy rain I usually turn them on when I can't see the car in front of me (which is at a safe distance) and when I have to slow below the minimum. I assume that if I have trouble seeing lit tail lights in front of me, the guy behind me is probably having the same trouble.

There is a point where I will pull off if the water is too bad (if a guy passes me in an ark, for instance,) but that's a sketchy situation, too. If I can see tail lights or hazard lights in front of me which haven't suddenly stopped or burst into flames, I know I'm good to go another 30 yards. On the other hand, a friend of mine was killed a few years ago when he pulled off to the side of the interstate and was hit by another car. (Not drunk, not sleeping, not going ridiculously fast, not anything criminal. She just got too close to the shoulder and hit him.) The side of the interstate is not a safe place to be stopped, and I usually only get off when I can find a legitimate exit.

I thought it was to use caution....:idontno:

At first I thought we were talking about a different kind of flashers on the interstate...glad it wasn't that kind.

You got me all excited for nothing. I didn't know that "flashers" meant hazard lights.

Damn!!

Fooled me, I thought you were talking about REAL flashers, not the silly things on cars!!:floor::funn:

I thought you meant you just got Flashed....you know trench coat flashed. I think it has happened to a few of us, huh?

That's what I thought also. I was going to ask her if she got any pictures of the flashers, the other kind.

So disappointed that this thread is actually about car lights!

Hazard lights are for just that, hazards. heavy rain, fog, snow, ice, steep inclines, etc all cause most people to travel at a lower than posted speed, ie a hazard. a flashing light is visible from farther away than a solid light.

as mentioned above, the people were probably in the left lane due to the standing water in the right, caused by the weight of trucks and most traffic normally there.

If I came upon someone who had their flashers on in a torrential downpour, I'd probably slam on the brakes, thinking they were stopped!!!! Or I'd wildly swerve around them!! Flashers while driving just doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

I also thought this thread was about flashers/streakers, et al.

Well, I thought the same thing! We must all really be bored today.
I was thinking naughty. I've already told the story about a guy who flashed me and daughter on I-85 right by the ATL airport. While driving 70 mph, he lifted his hips and jizzed at my car. GROSS! :puke:
