I just signed the lease today for a brand-spankin'-new apartment. (So it's in Bay County.... but it's only $600/month and it's close to work.) I'm gonna live on my own like a real adult.

I have a truck and someone I can easily trick into manual labor. All you have to do is cook a meal for us.

March 10.

Oh my gosh. I love you. Seriously.

I don't have a whole lot of large items, but I do have a bed that needs to go up to a third-floor apartment (there are no elevators) and possibly a couch. (My boss said he has a couch in his garage I can have if I just take it off his hands. I need to check out the condition first.)

And I will definitely feed you. I want to cook a big pot of gumbo but I might have to settle for something that doesn't take quite as long.

A slipcover from Target and some pretty throw pillows, voila, instant designer furniture. ;-)

Fabreeze, and lots of it. Especially if it's been in a garage.

I like those ideas. My grandma has been adamant that I don't take this couch, because she thinks it will be "junky, and I don't want you to put crappy furniture in that nice apartment."

But I feel like with some slipcovers and Febreze, it'll be fine.

Congrats on the move!

Better than slipcovers: I go to Home Depot and get the big canvas drop cloths. (The real cloth ones.) They're about $16, and are 9' x 12' or something huge like that. Stop by the nail/screw aisle and get some furniture nails. For less than $20 you have a re-upholstered couch in a neutral color. If you wash the cloths first with some fabric softener, they're pretty soft, too. Then you go to Target and get some colorful throw pillows.

Those cloths make great drapes, too--got the idea out of Better Homes and Gardens. I have them in my bedroom. I put some heavy fringe on one end, folded the fringed end over 4' from the top, and hung them floor-to-ceiling from cafe rods. My walls are red, and the effect is pretty amazing. My dad will bring their friends over just to show off my drop cloths.

Yay! Congrats sweet potato!! Sounds like Grandma wants to buy you a new couch to me! I started out the same way...someone gave me two old chairs that I used covers on. You are so lucky---covers are much cooler now than they used to be. Mine were fugly and we had no Target.

How in the world did you sprain your liver? Have you been working it out too much? Or too much local brew?:floor:

If anyone needs mooching lessons, please feel free to ask. It seems that I've become the Grand Poobah of Can I Sleep At Your House? (Maybe that should be my new Indian name...)

So, PV, when do I come stay with you?
