Welsh Corgi's are my favorite kind of dog.
I grew up with one but now I'm allergic.
My daughter is too and that's why we have a poodle. I love Rita's new avatar. bean
I was browsing google for pics of poodles. Ran across this one. An idea for our Christmas card this year? Don't think my husband would go for it.

I saw my first labradoodle at a gas station in NC about 3 years ago. There were 2 in a van and they were so cool looking we asked what they were. At the time they were ridiculously expensive.

I checked in to getting a labradoodle. They are still ridiculously expensive. You can buy one from anywhere between $900-$2,000, depending on whether it is a first or second generation mix and whether the "stud" was a standard or miniature poodle. The smaller the dog, the more expensive. There are now also Golden Doodles (g. retriever/poodle) which I think are even better than labradoodles because I adore g. retrievers and labs chew up everything is sight.
Breeder call them "designer dogs", but we all now that they are really mutts (not that there is anything wrong with being a mutt).

We are seeing more and more "designer" mixes here- having a dog that doesn't look like others is very popular. Schnoodles, shih-poos, yorkie-poos, etc. When we checked in the labradoodles, we found there was actually a reason for combining the standard and lab - they were bred as service dogs for people with animal allergies in Australia and NZ. At the time, most breeders were there.

This may sound weird, but is there ever a problem with these mixed breeds for the mommies delivering them, size wise?

I'm sure there are for some of the weird ones, and I don't even want to imagine how they get pregnant in the first place! And we very rarely see that sort of problem. We are lucky at the clinic where I work- our clients are pet owners, not breeders. Dog breeding is a funky business and lots of strange people IMO. Every now and then there is the family that thinks it would be a great learning experience for their dog to have pups. My answer to that is leave the poor dog alone and turn on Animal Planet for the kids

Another reason I love you! I agree about the dog breeders. (I am sure there are many "normal" ones out there!) Ours was just this side of bizarro! I keep meaning to email her and tell her about the "show dog reject" she sold us! It would probably be a good service to let her know about these teeth...although who know if it's genetic or a fluke? I thank God everyday that Molly had some undesirable trait for the show dog circus!!!!

Yes, I understand the reasons for the cross breeding. I like labradoodles and would like to own one. I just think it is ironic that breeders want $2,000 for a puppy that, 10 years ago, would have been considered a mutt and probably found free in the newspaper.
Breeders make sure that the momma dog is of the larger breed. All of the breeders of labradoodles and golden doodles that I found had a lab or retriever momma and the daddy was the poodle (standard or miniature). They are now also getting into breeding a labradoodle with a regular lab and experimenting with breeding two labradoodles. The labradoodle/lab mix is supposed to be even more non-shedding than the lab/poodle mix. However, then they are getting into the risk of more genetic problems.

I think $2000 for a dog is a bit much too- pure bred, cross bred, or otherwise!
And yes Mermaid- I LOVE Best in Show. The Cairn owner with 2 left feet kills me.

People in our neighborhood were GIVING away labradoodles before Thanksgiving. My daughter's best friend got one and we went over to see it. It was chocolate colored with green eyes. It was very cute with slightly wavy hair. The nose was more pointy but other than that it looked mostly like a lab. Something just didn't seem right...they had nine puppies that they just gave away. Think of the $$$ they could have made. ??? Lucky for the ones who wanted a puppy I guess.
