We are a little behind the times....but we saw "Sideways" last night (rare night when Kate when to bed early enough for us to last through a movie!). I loved it- but since it revolved around wine , I had a 1/2 glass of cabernet while watching, blowing the "no wine" part of the diet. The actors were just waving it in front of my face!

We watched "City by the Sea" last night and it was great. We also dug into the archives to find "The Talented Mr. Ripley," because it is set in a beautiful, warm place and we came back from South Walton to intense rain and cold temps.

We've done that, too, renting a movie because of the scenery. Worst one we ever rented was "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," because it's all about Savannah, which we know and love. It was a dreadful movie. Didn't even make it all the way through that one! We had better luck last night with the movie "Merci, Docteur Rey" which was set in Paris. It was a convoluted murder mystery that was very entertaining.

I loved the part where what's-his-name got all snooty and said, "If anyone orders Merlot, I'm outta here!" Oh, that made me laugh.

I loved that part too! I need to watch it one more time before it goes back to catch the other good lines.

If no-one minds a bit of depressing movie I recommend THE MACHINIST with Christian Bale. He is a fantastic actor, has completely transformed himself and plot is clever, and movie well acted.

has completely transformed himself and plot is clever, and movie well acted. His weight was down to 130 lbs. for this movie!
I saw this movie too, and no one else I mention it to has ever heard of it! C. Bale's character is quite the opposite in this from Batman. We've loved him since we first saw him in Empire of the Sun when he was about 12 yrs. old! He was good in American Psycho too.

You are also one of the only people I know who enjoyed Empire of the Sun (I thought it was terrific although I know critics generally skewered it!).I am a huge Christian Bale fan and need to rent Batman which I have not seen yet! Wish I also knew how he lost all the weight! He was cadaverous in The Machinist - amazing that he pulled that off so well!

We rented Into the Blue. It was a fairly good rental movie. But the best part was all the gorgeous scenery of the Bahamas Out Islands. It was the perfect movie to watch during a Chicago winter.
(And if any of you guys are Jessica Alba fans, this is the movie for you!)
