Please include Beachbummett's brother, Steve, in your prayers. I just received a text from her saying he was in an explosion at work and is being Care-Flighted to UAB Hospital.

You all are just too sweet and kind. I just love my SoWal family.

I'm back at work today and just called his room....he answered the phone himself and said he just had lunch, I asked him how was it he said 'Awww, it's awright, it's sustenance" He said they will be in his room in a little bit to do physical therapy, that is the worst part. He won't go home for a few more days, we have to build ramps, install shower lifts, chair lifts and other equipment he will need....I don't think he will need them for long. Now, we just have to keep his spirits up.

They, his wife and daughter, had planned a week long trip to Disney World in March for spring break, but that will be postponed, I told him to come to Watersound instead as we have seven miles of boardwalks we can wheel him around on, I also told him I have a beach buggy with fat tires we can pull him out on the beach and set him up for surf fishing. Anyone know if salt water will rust his bolts and rods?

Just keep him in your prayers. If any of you do want to send him a card, just pm me and I will send you his name and address.

Thanks again SoWal, y'all are the very best.

Glad to hear he is doing so well!

He should see if he can still go to Disney - with the exception of the actual rides, everything has to comply with ADA, so he should be good in a wheelchair or on crutches. If they arrange it ahead of time, they might even get some special perks.

You would be amazed what a determined person on crutches can do - Mama Scooterbug already WORE OUT the crutches she got for her knee and Papa Scooterbug went clomping through the woods tracking a deer because he wouldn't let a whole leg cast (for a torn achilles) cancel Scooterbro's first hunting season. After he lost the crutch tip in a mud puddle they replaced it w/ a crushed beer can!

Think he will hold off on Disney, we may all go for Thanksgiving. Roadtrip!

His problem will be that he is going to be in a wheelchair for a time, his left arm is broke and his left leg, so it will be hard to do the crutches until the arm heals. They have talked about a walker of sorts when his arm heels, they said they can make it where he uses his elbow on the left side. Your Dad sound like Steve, we are already talking about ways to put him up in his deer stand for hunting. Heck, they are actually talking about buying him a travel trailer so he can just stay out in the woods and hunt.

Jul, I have volunteered to go feed the cows, I have pink rubber boots with beach chairs on them ready to go. I'm now trying to talk my Dad and brother into going in with me on a pair of Alpaca's....did you know those things cost $20,000.00 each?!!! EACH?! They were teasing me about wanting to build them a cute pink gingerbread house to live in. Heck, if you pay that much for critters they may as well have a cute house. Poor Steve, he is used to it, did you notice our "joint" b'day party had pink balloons and pink bags.

I forgot about the arm in the crutching scenario! Assumed he'd be mostly healed except for the leg by March.

Deer hunting is easy - they take him in on an ATV and he hunts from a ground stand w/ a cell or radio to call someone in to retrieve him/deer.

I printed out this thread and took it to him, ummmm, I kinda got this look........you talk to ax murderers online? Then he gave me this look........he really appreciates all your thoughts and prayers....I told him we prayed him out of it.

Guess what I'm getting? SJ, I read they have excellent fiber for weaving. *hint* *hint*

We are going to an alpaca show in Shelbyville, TN the first weekend of March, anyone else wanna go?

Why does this feel like we've suddenly moved in to a MLM pitch?

Love you BB, but seriously, where in WaterSound are you gonna keep these things?

I know they are! My sister said tonight I could put tiara's in my alpaca's hair.

He has a lot of physical therapy ahead and we will know in two weeks if he has to have bone grafts. If he does, do you know they cut the bone typically from the pelvis or iliac crest?!

I know your Alpaca will be the most spoiled, best dressed, most sparkly Alpaca in all of Alpaca land.

Holy crap! That sounds painful! God luv Steve. I hope the grafts don't have to happen.

Well, if OL can put tiara's in her dogs hair, I'm sure I can put one in my alpaca's hair. (let's not admit that Sweetie already has some for her hair) Do you know the difference in llama's and alpaca's?

Alpacas are cuter?

Alpacas are cuter?

Well, that too. Size and fiber quality. Llamas were primarily bred to be a beast of burden, and alpacas were bred primarily as fiber producers. An average alpaca standing 34"-36" at the withers, where llamas stand 42"-48" at the withers. An adult alpaca will generally produce 5-8#s of high quality exotic uniformly crimped fiber in a single fiber fleece, each year. Got all that? You wanna come help shear them twice a year, DD?

I hope they don't need to do that. My sweet daddy had to have it, and the graft site hurt him worse than the injury site. Ick.

I'm also planning wii bowling parties at his house starting next weekend. I've taken him huge stack of biographies I had around here (it takes an accident to find out we read much of the same thing) bought him his favorite tv shows series on dvd's, sent him subscriptions to National Geographic and Smithsonian Magazine (two of my favorites) and a stack of books on raising alpaca's. What else does he want? Hey! Perhaps I could tease his hair up and put a tiara in it!

So I've heard. Keep praying he does not have to have them.

Yes!

Now THAT would be a hoot! DD telling her friends her vacations plans "Well, I'm going to help BB shear her alpaca's, who doesn't want to do that on their vacations, forget the beach!"
