First Ensign and now Sanford.
South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford Tells His Side of The Story - ABC News
The Republicans have now lost the head of their Senatorial Committee, and the Chairman of the Republican Governors Association. Palin and Romney are looking more likely everyday. Also, what is this with possible Presidential Candidates and cheating on wives? First, Edwards and now these two....
Miss Kitty, please let us know if the Texas governor does anything crazy.

Well, we knew that something like that was coming when his wife told the press she didn't know where he was.
hmmmm......can't remember

Yes, it seemed like that could be translated into, "I don't really care where he is, thank you so much..."

I'm hopeful that this represents a fundamental shift in tactics for Governors of southern states. While Clinton had an affinity for horrible looking chicks - Sanford appears like he might be pursuing hot little chili peppers down in South America. Lets see some pictures!

"We developed a remarkable friendship over those eight years and then as I said about a year ago it sparked into something more than that," Sanford explained

"Disappeared" during Father's Day...now we know he's been playing "Whose your Daddy" with someone other than his 4 boys.
The tragic thing for the Reps going forward is that "Sorry Charlie Crist" is quickly moving up the rungs as the top contender for their run for the White House.

It's taken over 5 months for Sanford's peccadillos to come out. If Charlie gets too close to running, there may be some skeletons to come out of his closet. Palin and Romney have been vetted so there shouldn't be any affairs left for them to be exposed.

Maybe we should only elect women to office.
I don't recall any female politicians that have ever announced having an extramarital affair.

What a jerk! And on Father's Day! Of course, maybe he's the future father of a child in Argentina?
In any case, he's "No Number 1 Dad."

Personally I think this is nobody's business except Sanford and his familiy. Why we obsess over such nonsense I don't understand. If he stood up in front of the cameras and lied to the public about it like Edwards and Clinton, that would be a little different. But it doesn't appear he ever denied this, he just announced it. My guess is he's decided to get a divorce and needed to get it out there.

It's not the fact he had an affair, it's the fact that he took off for days to a foreign country and noone knew where he was.
Hopefully this will be the end of it, now that he's made an announcement.

It is everyone's business, especially those in South Carolina.
Two points.
1. He has pushed family values and morality for quite some time and hasn't followed what he had pushed for others.
2. Most importantly, he went AWOL from his role as Governor to play horn dog....
The only reason that he announced it was that he was hung by the media in his own web. Why didn't he announce it 5 months ago when it started.
Oh and btw,,,he did lie to his staff as to where he was......

I agree with you for the most part. However, it is pretty stupid to have an affair when you are a public figure. Divorce first, then a new squeeze. That's good advice for anyone!!

I know, how hard is it to figure out that you are going to lose your family AND your job? This is not a difficult sequence of events to master...separation, divorce, THEN the tango....and just not showing up for your job? Sheesh. I wouldn't give this guy the credit for having the common sense to paint my house, much less run a state.

I'm sure that his behavior was heavily influenced by those effete, northeastern, liberal, communist, socialist, athiest, hollywood, mainstream media, liberal democrat, New York Times reading, latte drinking, harvard educated elitists. Let's have a big round of applause to all of them for helping to create this much needed comic relief.

For me, it's not so much the affaird that's the issue, it's bugging off to a foreign country without leaving his lt. governor with contact information and making sure that everything in the chain of command was set if an emergency happened. Imagine if the headline on Sunday had been:
'At least 50 dead as tornado hits Greenville, South Carolina'
From what I've read, Sanford hadn't made sure that the lt. governor had all the necessary statutory authority to declare a disaster, call up the national guard, etc. in order to handle such an event while he was incommunacado.
Granted, you'd hope that the lt. governor would step up and do what was right, damn the paperwork, but it's a position that Sanford should have absolutely not placed his lt. governor and cabinet in.

Don't know if it has anything to do with it but Washington is Hollywood for ugly people. Except for Sarah of course.

If Charlie Crist went missing for a week and then got up to the podium and admitted he'd "spent the last five days crying in Argentina" (or Provincetown, or whatever) I'd be disgusted enough that I would want him immediately to resign.
Politicians are great for entertainment; too bad they have to govern.

So, wait a second. He wasn't on the Appalachian Trail as reported on the news yesterday evening? He was in Argentina? "Don't Cry for Me, South Carolina?" I missed something today, evidently!

Sarah's opportunities in Washington are severly limited. Fortunately.
