Anyone been following the story about the Harvard Professor who was arrested?
Short of it is that he lives in a prominent neighborhood in Cambridge, Mass and had just returned home from a trip from China. The front door was jammed so he went through the backdoor and then with the help of his driver was able to force the stuck front door open. Apparently, a neighbor saw all of this activity and informed the police about a possible break in.
Cops came and asked the professor for his id and to come outside for questioning. Allegedly, the prof didn't want to comply and asked the officer for his id and badge number. The prof eventually came outside and presented the id but then accused the officer of racism (the prof is African American). He felt that he was guilty of being "black in America" and that the officer had no business asking him for his id in his own house when he had done nothing wrong. Apparently, the conversation got out of hand and the cop arrested the professor for disorderly conduct. Since then the charges have been dropped and the mayor of Cambridge apologized.
Interestingly enough, the POTUS weigh in on it today.

The truth is probably deep in there somewhere. Rev. Jesse Jackson is involved now, so it should be sorted out soon.

Oh, dear... I guess it's back to no TV/internet for me for a while. Excluding sowal.com, of course... 😀

I agree, SB. and your point is a good one. Probably because of those "minds already made up" that it all happened in the first place...the 911 certainly indicates to me that the caller was giving the men the benefit of the doubt, the police, not so much...
One thing I have learned from this video (see link below) is that intelligent fellow Americans who are directly involved with situations, privy to all facts and circumstances, and afforded the time to disseminate all such relevant information can clearly articulate the truth when provided an opportunity. Though I'm not sure CNN producers expected to hear all of this. These crazy irrational police officers need to be taught the lessons to be learned from their actions. Sounds like Obama needs to buy a lot more beer than he originally planned :drink:

The Post-Racial President - News - Freedom Politics
Brilliant, articularly written article. Turn on the national news tonight and you will hear about none of this. I find the new found silence from Obama's supporters to be deafening. I wonder how many people identify with Kelly King's comments from the CNN video link I previously posted??? Stimulus Part 2 (Part 3 soon to come), Cap & Tax (includes zero participation in the global marketplace from the world's #1 & #3 Polluters {China & India}), Healthcare Demolition/Re-Construction, National Un-employment soon to crest 10%. Been hearing recently about national surges in Home Sales and Autos. Oddly these relative "surges" are direct results of Federal Tax Credits (First Time Home Buyers, Cash For Clunkers). We can now only wonder and rationally summize what income tax credits for all Americans could do for our economy??? That is one option that will never occur under this administration. Hard to believe it's only been 6 months.......:trainwreck:

Bob, you are stereotyping me. Stop! You are stereotyping me as being neat and clean and in the proper statistical realm. Why are you stereotyping me? That is so improper. I thought that is what you said was wrong. Did you actually read my post. It is about what you are doing. You claim it is a bad thing but don't see that it is exacty what you and Gates do. I can't believe the concept is not understood. Maybe you don't want to understand.pointing out white racist behavior hurts no one. defending white racist behavior perpetuates our embarrassing history and helps no one. i don't believe whites can fully understand the crap law abiding blacks continue to endure. if you rush to defend the cop in this case, try to remember who was standing in his own house when there was a knock at the door. your lifeguard analogy was weak.
And as far as being sterotyped because of race, I was suspended from school along with a black friend, years ago, because of race, pal. You don't know me but your stereotyping of me is obvious. I always hear people, especially minorities, say we need to 'speak openly' about race. But what they want is for the white man to say, 'we are wrong, we are racist'.
Quit strereotyping me and other people as stereotyping blacks. Don't you see the hypocracy? I do understand their lot in life. It is unfortunate that racism exists or that because of the high ststistical crime rate of blacks that people may think they have a higher propensity to commit criminal acts. But to label white people constantly as racist or stereotypers is doing the exact same thing.

Oh, come on! The guy breaks into his rented home and then thinks the police are being unreasonable looking into a suspected break-in at the residence? I don't buy it - at all.

Oh, I didn't know he was renting. I thought he owned it; that's why I mentioned a few pp back that I would produce the Deed in addition to my DL or Passport coming off an international flight.

Would you really? Would you be able to quickly find and produce your deed? And would that really be necessary? :idontno:

People seem to be overemphasizing that part about identifying that this was his house. The cop said that the prof came up with ID fairly early on. After that, the cop asked if there were other people in the house (the original 911 call mentioned two guys) The cop was still trying to find out all the facts. Just because the guy is a Harvard professor doesn't mean it wasn't a possible dangerous situation. (domestic violence, ambush, hostage). This is when the prof started to lose his temper and started ranting about racism. From everything that has come out, I can't see anything to suggest there was any rascism in the cop's behavior. The black cop that came in later said he backed the cop and his actions 100%. This is not to say racism shows up in a great many arrests, but this just plain doesn't seem to be one of those cases. I think Gates owes Crowley an apology.

I disagree, my friend. There's a reason why there is a password on alarms and if you do not give the right one the police come. They are trained to access the situation at the door. If you seem in duress or nervous, the police are looking for cues. Crowley was probably looking for those cues. They also have them rigged so you can put an extra number in the code in the event someone follows you in your house. Someone may be so scared as to react as Gates did and get defensive. What if he was being bribed or a grandchild was kidnapped?

The next time my house or my neighbors house is broken into, I'm calling a Harvard professor. I know he'll know exactly what to do, and while he is there we discuss all the problems that the white racist cops has caused the intire world. We all know that people of color that break the law............IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT!!!:pissed:

Come on Bob, that's not nice. Correct though that pointing out racist behavior hurts no one. But apparently you don't see Gate's racist behavior as racist. Him automatically calling the cop a racist etc. That's okay to you because of past things that have happened to blacks. When will it end?
Btw, my analogy wasn't meant to be strictly applied. It was just something that happened to me within the recent week or so, therefore I mentioned it. You koow, most ppeople I notice like you are married within their race, live in a neighborhood made up basically exclusively of their race, have their kids go to schools with others of their same race, but speak to others about the evil white man and the poor black man. Might make you feel less guilty, I'm not sure.
Again, I was demonstrating that people sterotype, like you are doing to me, the cops and other white people. I am comfortable with myself and my understanding of race, so I can speak openly. I've long resented how 'white people' are labeled so negatively and spoke of so openly as racist at the drop of the hat.
It is shameful how many blacks have been treated through the years. I actuallly was touched most during a Mark Twain documentary that showed how a family of slaves were torn apart, siblings taken from their mothers arms, never to see thier mother or brothers again. It made me cry to watch that.
The lady who made the 911 call has even been labeled as a racist and as someone who stereotyped, when actually, she did not say that the men were black. She had a tearful press conference to clear some things up, but many like you will always think any white cop is racost or profiling who has conflict with a black person.
Maybe you should come to visit some of my friends in the projects when I head back to Louisiana, or one of my ex girl-friends 😱 Might make you stereotype a little less. But, I doubt it.
