Fox News isn't a news organization..

On Monday, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow were among several people who attended an off-the-record briefing with Pres. Obama at the White House. Sources tell us other attendees at the two-and-a-half hour chat included Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post, Maureen Dowd of the New York Times, Gwen Ifill of PBS and Gloria Borger of CNN. Perhaps not surprisingly, no one from Fox News was in the room.

This fact quickly turned into ammunition for the folks at FOX. Last night on "Special Report," Bret Baier revealed the information pointing out that opinion hosts from one channel were being invited to a briefing with the Commander-in-Chief, all the while Fox was declared not a news organization.

Maddow/Olbermann Invited to White House Chat with Obama, But Fox Isn't a News Organization? - mediabistro.com: TVNewser

While Maddow and Olberman get front row seats and face time in the White House.

When Obama's term started out, I was really hoping things would change, but really nothing has. In fact I'd argue it's become far worse - the divide continues to widen. What happened to all those promises of transparency? Now we have the White House selectively blacklisting one of the three major cable news networks. I'd be laughing if this wasn't so, incredibly, sad.

Oh sure they do. You are trying to say that Roger Ailes is not a master political manipulator? It's about appeal, not the content.

Make no mistake, overall they're not much worse than anyone, and I do catch Shep from time to time, but sadly, the days of straightforward, fair and trusted news and analysis died long before Cronkite actually did.

But again, this is not a battle Obama needs to be fighting, it is laughable, in fact.

No more a manipulator than Les Moonves(sp?)....

I thought Tim Russert, a liberal, was as straightforward as they came...I miss him.

Did I just say that????

I agree with TFT and others, this wasn't supposed to be a discussion about Fox's opinion shows - they have good shows that lean right, MSNBC has good opinions shows that lean left, CNN has some interesting opinion shows and segments, heck even HBO has a good opinion show in Maer. It's about the fact that the currently administration is blacklisting an entire news network because they present critical reporting. I think it'll backfire on them, and really, they should be above such sillyness.
given the multitude of simultaneous problems the current administration is attempting to handle, i do not blame them in not wanting to respond to any queries from fox news. it's a waste of their time, and far from any silliness.

I agree, but even a simple, small town reporter knows that if you manufacture, or misquote a public official or private citizen, they will probably not agree to speak with you again and quite honestly, why would they? If I twisted or made up something in an article, they would have a right to be upset.
There is a code of ethics that used to be present in American journalism. The Fox model, which others soon followed, was based on Australian journalism, which in my research is anything but "Fair and Balanced," never-mind if you have to tell people that you are "Fair and Balanced" you are probably not.

And before anyone's heads explode and they attack me, I don't watch TV, I don't have cable, and I don't belong to either party, so bite me.

I'm not much of a fan of Les either. But I loved Russert and Peter Jennings, rest their souls.

Fox would be much more credible to more people if they had a persona with gravitas like either of the above that was the main representation of their network. Instead they have Murdoch doing TV interviews calling the president's policies "dangerous." That's one way to get attention but there's no gravitas there.

I think it's more that some people like to use Hannity or Beck or O'reilly as the face of Fox News....Not so much Murdoch....jmo

Yeah well, like those are better choices.

On a regular basis, Anderson Cooper is the only one I watch. I find him easy to take. I suspect if Obama accused him of bias against the administration he would do a special where he interviewed lots of people to get their opinions about whether he was biased or not and would fail to raise his voice while doing so.

what a foolish debate. of course they are a real news org. this is part of a large smear campaign and many are taking the bait. and than you have people who hate fox because they're told too by the bomb throwers themselves using slogans like "fox noise" and "faux news"-childish. and those people dont even or never have watched fox. the top 13 news programs are fnc. thats not by accident so ill stick with the majority. there will no doubt be a time where this is laughed upon :idontno:

If you stuck with the majority you would be an Obama supporter...

Ummmmm.......no............... I don't think others are a singularity of one view or side. Most are multifaceted and instead of just disagreeing, you made it personal. But I figured someone would, hench the way I finished my post. I've seen posters that have surprised me and I don't follow them or commit their post to memory. So you are not correct to call BS on anyone:wave:

Are there any polls that say that a majority supports someone else for president?

But regardless, my statement was tongue in cheek. I think it is silly to do anything because a majority is...

what does that have to do with any link to journalistic integrity? ratings, in the case of fox news, means they have the nicest rides at the carnival.

Poor Vanna White; if she had started in the spokesmodel business 20 years later, she would be co-anchor of Fox News now.

So the media outlet that has been publicly chastised by the White House for their behavior, untruths and sensationalism WASN'T invited to a special briefing session w/ the President?

Gee, wonder why?

I call BS on the whole Fox is not news...

I'll give you Hannity, Beck and even O'Reilly....They are OPINION shows in the same light as Olberman, Maddow, Mathews,

The rest is news.....Like them or not...the ratings don't lie

But only if the opinions expressed absolutely lines up with the current Republican talking points. It is like SOOOOOOOOOOO obvious. Yes, and I do watch FOX NEWS.

They didn't seem to have any problems carving out three hours of face time with the president for Maddow and Olberman.
