When Palin’s memoir, “Going Rogue: An American Life,” hits bookstores on Nov. 17, it will face competition from OR Books’ “Going Rouge: An American Nightmare,” being released the same day.
The anti-Palin book, compiled by Richard Kim and Betsy Reed, senior editors at the left-leaning The Nation magazine, claims to offer up “the real Palin.”

Though the cover of “Going Rouge” is clearly a parody of Palin’s memoir, the book is not, the editors say, pointing to the caliber of writers included in it. Among the book’s contributors are Hanna Rosin, contributing editor at The Atlantic; historian Rick Perlstein; iconic feminist Gloria Steinem and former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich.

?€˜Going Rouge?€™ offers roguish reply to Palin book - TODAY: Book news

“Anyone who looks at the cover for more than half a second can tell that it’s not the same book,” she said. “But maybe we have too high of an opinion of Palin book buyers.”

Can you still order it for $4.97?

Well it actually started out at $20.12, but that gimmick backfired I understand.

Yes, but not because of his dietary habits, and I'm not looking for a role model, which apparently is something many on the right so deperately crave. Sad, true, but at the same time hysterically funny.

This Republican v. Democrat crap is getting freakin' annoying.

It certainly is - my dislike of Palin isn't because she's a Republican. It's because I strongly disagree with her opinions, tactics, and find her supremely ill suited for a national position.

I've never voted for just one party's candidates in any election - due to my strange habit of actually researching and then voting for the best candidate.

A better campaign and VP choice and I might have voted for McCain instead of Obama - and I am still hoping McCain takes a big role in a Washington that is truly interested in reform and bipartisanship.

P.S. Wild game is much better paired with roasted red potatoes or wild rice - yet another area in which I disagree with Palin

From the six or so people I know who live in that state now, none were sorry to see her go, and she left a bundle of problems, but as you said, or someone said, she left a surplus which was actually from the oil people and is left each year, Of course the last NATIONAL surplus left in the US was by a democrat, Bill Clinton! And who squandered it? A republican over the course of a few months as he gutted our economy or allowed that to happen, watched NY attacked while he crabbed about too much work in Crawfordsville, then attacked a sovergeign nation the wrong one I believe) and left us in economic ruins as he did that other country in complete chaos and ruin. Rabid? Damn right! And sick of the whining, fawning "good ole boy" party of negativism, corruption, greed, rascism, demagogery, sexist hypocrits that Dirksen, Romney's dad, and Lincoln would find repulsive. Yeah, run Palin or Huckster or whomever.....cowtow to the ultra conservative wingnut end of the party, the fake ultra religious, the :bang: talking heads and watch us slide backwards into the stone age. Just my humble opinion, of course. :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

Romney's father spoke ill of the Vietnam War and was sacked by repubs. Romney Jr.??? He's not the right kind of christian.....

I thought she handled herself extremely well on Oprah. I am afraid of her. Or more specifically- I am afraid of the masses of folks who believe she should be POTUS...

I think she did as well......with Barbra Walters, too. I don't think her year is 2012. Much later down the road.

I am excited about a female President, however!

That surplus had little to do with her and much to do with oil and a good economy. She quit before we could see if she could still govern when money wasn't pouring in.

Also worth noting that everyone who lives in Alaska for a year gets over a thousand dollars a year from oil dividends. Native alaskans can earn tens of thousands a year from funds and also get free health care. A large amount also pays for scholarships and charities.

That provides a social safety net that eliminates many of the problems other governors (or presidents) have to deal with.

I do think Palin was initially an effective governor of Alaska (a very unique place), but once she got a taste of power and national celebrity things went downhill fast.................not helped by national media attention revealing some of her less than stellar staff and budget decisions.

She does not have the basic knowledge, critical thinking, or people skills necessary to be President

I have more experience to be president than that Sarah "lady". All of those right wing guys who don't believe in a woman's choice should notice that those Boo.....s have gone down quite a bit. I would have probably voted for McCain with someone other than Palin. She isn't even helping Lens Crafters these days. Someone other than the Republican Party must be purchasing her clothes.

Palin, go home and take care of your little one.

NO, that doesn't and hasn't ever entered my mind being a woman who spent over 30 years in a military uniform and civilian clothes working for Deparatment of Defense.

She has a needy child that needs her. She made her choice, spoke about it, and flaunted it around the country. And she does not believe in other women's choices.....that's hypocritical.

I have no interest in either, either. I'd be interested in the demographic of purchasers, however.

I'd love to read it! I will as soon as I can borrow a copy.

I learned much about President Obama (then candidate) from reading two of his books, particularly The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream. Author's reveal their essence with writing. It's fascinating to me. I like to better understand people who generate so much passion in others.

This is a good point, except that Palin had a definite short term agenda and help from a ghost writer whose confidentiality agreement prevents her from saying how much Palin actually wrote.

I believe many famous people use help to write their books. I expect that since Ms. Palin is the "story teller" and she certainly reviewed the work at the very least, it will be revealing. It is her story.

Good point, Winnie! I never did think or think today that there is absolutely anything audacious about hope or that the American Dream has dissipated. I listened to his radio interview from the early 2000's (Chicago Public Station?) and that helped me in my decision for last year's election. Redistribution of Wealth abates the American Dream and is quite audacious. This, I find ironic.

I am impressed that Going Rogue was hammered out in four months.......but, suspect? And, the rebuttal from the left? Suspect.

Admittedly, I have judged the respective books by their covers.

Sorry, I don't think you caught what I was saying. I don't think women should stay at home, I did not. I believe in women getting out of the house and doing the things they want to do. I did. My mother did and that was in 1963. She opened her own business and surprised her father and husband. They both stood behind her. That is where we need to go with familiy members backing their loved ones regardless of sex.

I will be excited about a female President when a woman gets elected due to her extraordinary leadership ability and competency. and there are women out there who are more than capable. I can speak with certainty that Palin is not one of them. not because of her policies. but because of her campaign tactics, mistakes, drama, etc. Lake View Too said it best just a few posts above (and this was stated about as politely as it possibly could be.. and perhaps a tad understated. but only my opinion of course..):
Honestly, Sarah Palin lowers national politics to the level of a reality show: "Who Wants To Be Vice President?" Another person, a lot like Paris Hilton, who is famous simply because she's a celebrity.
I'd love to read it! I will as soon as I can borrow a copy.

thank you for such a great post Winnie.

Andy A - whatcha doing starting up that whining about Local Liberals again? I know about a dozen republicans and have heard of countless republicans and independents who dropped McCain like a hot potato the minute he announced his VP pick. Palin's controversey is based on her personality much more than her policy (which she could barely articulate).

I don't know, Lynnie. The snippet I saw of Palin on BW reminded me of the nervous Palin we saw with Katie Couric.

The Palin on Oprah reminded me of the sharp/confident/composed Palin during the RNC. I'll try to watch the whole thing.
