When Palin’s memoir, “Going Rogue: An American Life,” hits bookstores on Nov. 17, it will face competition from OR Books’ “Going Rouge: An American Nightmare,” being released the same day.
The anti-Palin book, compiled by Richard Kim and Betsy Reed, senior editors at the left-leaning The Nation magazine, claims to offer up “the real Palin.”

Though the cover of “Going Rouge” is clearly a parody of Palin’s memoir, the book is not, the editors say, pointing to the caliber of writers included in it. Among the book’s contributors are Hanna Rosin, contributing editor at The Atlantic; historian Rick Perlstein; iconic feminist Gloria Steinem and former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich.

?€˜Going Rouge?€™ offers roguish reply to Palin book - TODAY: Book news

“Anyone who looks at the cover for more than half a second can tell that it’s not the same book,” she said. “But maybe we have too high of an opinion of Palin book buyers.”

President Obama drinks beer...he's a hoop shootin' beer drinkin' kinda guy who smokes. That's who he is. He is not well read, not educated about history or finance and was not qualified to run. But he did, and he won.

That's how I see it.

If Ms. Palin is as unqualified and ignorant as many say, it should be a goal for people who don't believe in conservative platforms to have her run against President Obama in 2012. I think the anger/fear/animosity directed toward her is disproportionate to her actions.

:idontno: Maybe it really does have nothing to do with left or right, but I don't think it has anything to do with her qualifications or lack thereof either. I can't fathom what about her evokes such passion for or against.

By what standard is Obama "not well read" or "educated"? :idontno: IMO a degree from Columbia in political science and int'l relations, a law degree from Harvard, and a professorship at the University of Chicago in constitutional law is pretty well read and educated.

He was a multi-term state senator and then a US senator.

He's got more education and degrees than I do, and I am pretty damn smart and "edumacated" by local standards.

Palin can't even correctly identify what's on the horizon and couldn't make it through ONE term as a state governor.

Let me see, not well read, just head of the Harvard Law Review. I would rather have him try and support me than someone who waves to Russia out of her back door and never been out of the Country, whoops, she went to Canada and Mexico once. And now she can say she has been to other countries. So now she is really qualified.

I'd rather not have Palin or Obama running the country as I don't feal either is qualified for the job. Obama is proving that to us now, Palin hopefully won't get the chance to do the same down the road.

You are not alone -- this is often repeated in the echo chamber. You can argue that Obama was not qualified to run for president, but the idea that he is not well read is demonstrably untrue. I mean, I haven't met him, but here is what David Brooks had to say.

David Brooks may be trashed as a RINO but - seriously - he does know a lot of stuff.

In the spring of 2005, New York Times columnist David Brooks arrived at then-Senator Barack Obama?s office for a chat. Brooks, a conservative writer who joined the Times in 2003 from The Weekly Standard, had never met Obama before. But, as they chewed over the finer points of Edmund Burke, it didn?t take long for the two men to click. ?I don?t want to sound like I?m bragging,? Brooks recently told me, ?but usually when I talk to senators, while they may know a policy area better than me, they generally don?t know political philosophy better than me. I got the sense he knew both better than me.?

That first encounter is still vivid in Brooks?s mind. ?I remember distinctly an image of--we were sitting on his couches, and I was looking at his pant leg and his perfectly creased pant,? Brooks says, ?and I?m thinking, a) he?s going to be president and b) he?ll be a very good president.? In the fall of 2006, two days after Obama?s The Audacity of Hope hit bookstores, Brooks published a glowing Times column. The headline was ?Run, Barack, Run.?

These days, the center-right Brooks frequently seems more sympathetic toward Obama than the liberal Paul Krugman. He has written columns praising Obama?s Afghanistan policy, education proposals, and economic team. Even on broad areas of disagreement--deficit spending, the sprawling stimulus bill, health care reform--Brooks tends to treat Obama and his administration with respect. ?My overall view,? Brooks told me, ?is ninety-five percent of the decisions they make are good and intelligent. Whether I agree with them specifically, I think they?re very serious and very good at what they do.? It is an odd situation to say the least: David Brooks, prominent conservative, has become the most visible journalistic ally of arguably the most liberal president of his lifetime.

An interesting read at The Courtship | The New Republic.

Probably by the same standards used to judge Sarah Palin not well read. His breadth of knowledge is narrow. Individuals who are well read have a larger scope.

I didn?t say he is uneducated.

I think he is not educated in history and finance/economics. This impression comes from reading two of his books, listening to a great number of his speeches, and his actions in office so far. I also find he is much more narrow-minded than he professed to be while campaigning. It is apparent that you, Iris, Gidget, and LuciferSam disagree. It?s nice that opposing opinions have a voice at SoWal.

Have you read The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream? I think it is a good representation of President Obama?s thought processes and intellect.

President George W. Bush majored in history at Yale then earned his Masters of Business Administration at Harvard. Ivy league presidents, both. President Bush worked in the private sector before comitting to public service. With his education and experience, he was still disliked pretty vehemently by former President Clinton supporters.

Sarah Palin is a private citizen not currently running for any office yet still she feared and loathed. It really looks like a right vs left thing. If it isn't, maybe someone can articulate the reason for such passion. Please without name calling.

Right now, I don't think she would be a good candidate in 2012. However, I like her spunk and style. I do not fear people who support her. I can?t fathom the reasoning of those who do.

I look forward to reading her book and to watching her actively participate in the political dialog of our country. I think she speaks for much of middle America that hasn?t been represented well for some time.

Just too conservative huh????

:funn:

Yes actually. I'm a libertarian, so some aspects of the conservative platform I find distastful. But the whole pre-emptive thing, that's the kicker. I'm not going to vote for any neo-cons ever again. Ironically, that's a position that in my mind is a true conservative principal.

On the republican side, I can't think of a single one at this point. But really, 3 years out, who cares. I just hope somebody bubbles to the surface in time. Can we clone Reagan? (oh wait, the religious right wouldn't approve. :D )

Can I play too?

I wouldn't mind seeing Hillary Clinton as the Dem. candidate in 2012. I know it is unprecedented, but find myself wondering how things would be going right now if she had won last go 'round.

On the Republican side, nobody has yet convinced me they are really willing to go back to fiscal responsiblity. DeMint really impressed me with his "term limits for all" bill/amendment. I'll keep watching...

I'm more interested in disolving the democrat majorities in the Senate in 2010. 13 seats up for grabs, of which one is in Florida.

Long shot, but could happen to have Hillary nominated by the DNC against their own incumbent. Actually, I've always wondered about the message a move like this would send/mean...........I suspect that if Obama's popularity continues to drop, the DNC will be looking at Hillary.......or, much, much worse, Pelosi! Yikes! And, I am not for either.

I never thought that just common folk stayed in Ft. Walton.

I really don't understand your comments, I was taught that"

a. Democrats are the common folk
b. Republicans are elitist

Now, you are a common folk Republican who thinks Sarah is very attactive wishing you were in Ft Walton, sporting a SOWAL sticker on your Chevy Tahoe, with a Tennessee plate? WOW. You are one not to be missed on the roads.

And I realized it wasn't you over in Ft. Walton. The guy was driving a Chevy truck, but not a Tahoe, and not a SOWAL sticker, just a partial sticker that had McCain (the better part of the ticket) cut off and only Palin remaining. Really quite tacky. You enamored people need to get out there and get her real stickers. Just like you did for her clothes during the campaign.

Yeah...all of those common folk teabaggin democrats....

Seems to me that it's the Pelosi, Reids and Schumers that were looking DOWN their noses at the teabaggers.....

And you blind lemmings need to demonize someone else. Here...Hit on Dick Cheney some more....
