OMG! I really earn more than $250K?.....

Beach Fanatic

....well, I guess that I MUST, since $9.30 more of my USAF retirement check was deducted. My pay stub details "due to recent legislation your federal withholding tax was increased". As I recall, my president told me that only those earning $250K or more per year would see tax increases......I wonder what happened?. I know this: if I was making $250K a year, then I'd be having a LOT more fun!......

Early life and education

Grayson was born in the Bronx, New York and grew up in the tenements. He graduated from Bronx High School of Science and worked his way through Harvard University graduating summa cum laude in three years. He was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He worked as an economist for two years and returned to Harvard for graduate studies. Within four years, he earned a law degree with honors from Harvard Law School, a masters in public policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and completed the course work and passed the general exams for a Ph.D. in government.[3][4]
[edit] Career

Grayson was employed as a law clerk at the Colorado Supreme Court in 1983, and at the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals from 1984 to 1985, where he worked with such judges as Abner Mikva, Robert Bork, and two judges who later joined the U.S. Supreme Court: Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Antonin Scalia. He was an associate at the Washington D.C. firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson for five years, where he specialized in contract law.

Grayson wrote his masters thesis on gerontology and in 1986 founded the Alliance for Aging Research (AAR), and served as an officer of the organization for more than twenty years.[5] AAR is a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. that was founded to promote medical research to improve the human experience of aging.

In 1991 he founded the law firm Grayson, Kubli which concentrated on government contract law. He was a lecturer at the George Washington University government contracts program and a frequent speaker on the topic.[4] Grayson also was the first President of IDT Corporation, a publicly traded billion-dollar telecommunications company.[5][6] Grayson was ranked as the 12th-wealthiest member of Congress based on financial disclosure forms with a minimum net worth of $31.12 million, according to Roll Call.[7]

In the 2000s he worked as a plaintiffs' attorney specializing in whistleblower fraud cases aimed at Iraq war contractors. One contractor, Custer Battles, employed individuals who were found guilty of making fraudulent statements and submitting fraudulent invoices on two contracts in 2003 the company had with the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq.[8][9] On behalf of his clients, Grayson filed suit under the False Claims Act and its qui tam provisions.[8] Grayson disclosed his attorney fees and costs for the case exceeded $4 million.[9][10]

While pursuing the whistleblower cases, Grayson worked from a home office in Orlando where he lived with his wife and five children. In 2006, a Wall Street Journal reporter described Grayson as "waging a one-man war against contractor fraud in Iraq" and as a "fierce critic of the war in Iraq" whose car was "emblazoned" with bumper stickers such as "Bush lied, people died".[10]

May I suggest you look around a little. Joe Wilson isn't the only one of his kind in the House and Senate. Witness Alan Grayson (D) from our own wonderful state. There are enough ignorant Congressional leaders on both sides to more than go around. If the American electorate was smart, they would vote them all out and start over but, unfortunately, that won't happen.
Bush Sr. and I were referring to the lack of manners/respect shown.

Agree that (as the bumper sticker says) both politicians and diapers need to be changed frequently - for the same reason!

racist and someone who drags his secessionist state another notch lower. perhaps he can become a lobbyist with the current governor one day.

perhaps, but Wilson stands to be an accurate racist at the end of the day as the language in the bill currently sits, where President Obama stands to simply be a lying racist.

Honest or dishonest, I don't like racists period. Please provide a source for your statement that Obama is a racist.

I'm sorry I should have said credible source and not someone's opinion.

Spin it however you want, his statement was not a blanket statement of all white people, white cops, or cops in general. He was speaking to the individual. Had he made the statement that cops "act stupidly" or that whites "act stupidly" then we'd have a different argument.

As to the video, if I wanted out of context edited video I'd switch my TV over to Fox news.

Just because the man disowned the good Rev Wright, it doesn't erase my memory that the man sat his family in the pews for 20 years listening to that vile and blatant racism. Turn the tables and make President Obama a man of white skin color running for President, do you think we would even remember his name at this point had he had the same religious affiliation? Being elected doesn't erase someone's past...and that past affiliation only ended during the campaign when it became politically expedient. This country understandably has a hard time labeling anyone of color a racist...especially when that person is our President. Would you not label a man of white skin color who attended a racist church for 20 years as such?

Oh, I know!

Just seeing if anyone else can separate commenting on the stupidity of someone who just happens to be (insert attribute/race/religion here) and making a blanket statement about the stupidity of all (insert here). ;-)

Question - is it something this administration specifically changed/did or is it just due to tax breaks scheduled to end actually ending as stated in the original legislation? :idontno:

I can only say one thing for certain. Come Jan. 1, 2010, I will be short of what I was getting on Dec. 1, 2009.
You can call it anything you want, Obama tax, expired tax credits or Congressional mandates, whatever. The one thing I can say is its a decrease in income and according to what Obama told us, that isn't suppose to happen to those making less than 250K. I DON'T MAKE 250K !!!

Why not check your Jan. 1, 2009 check and see how the withholding amounts compare? In May, all military retirees were supposed to see a DECREASE in their witholding because of the stimulus. Did you see this decrease? If so how much, and how does that compare to the Jan. 1 increase?

And two points: One, you are entitled to adjust your withholding amount by filling out a form and sending it in.

And two, when you file your returns on April 15 is when you would see an actual increase in taxes or actual decrease in taxes. The amount withheld does not necessarily equate to a higher overall tax bill or decrease in income. In fact, there is no reason that it should. Once again, tax rates have not (yet) increased, for anyone.

Has he signed legislation that raised taxes? Because every time he turns to one side or another, we get reports on how he turned the wrong way or someone else(aka Rep.) would have done it better, yet FOX isn't on top of all of these tax increases he has signed into law?

Remember, "Read my lips." ?

I am much more enjoying the fact that there are now two ex-speaking heads for the last eight years that are claiming 9/11 didn't happen on their watch. Sorry, ladies, it's a little too soon to rewrite history. Give it another 20 years.

Ps.....every tax here at home that I have has gone up this year. OMG, Obama.......why did you raise my car tax and my house tax.....oh, wait.......someone else did that. Yeah, my Republician leadership, or was it the economy?

i answered the question, or did you only read the answer

In 2003, Essie Mae Washington-Williams revealed that she was the daughter of Wilson's former employer, the late Senator Strom Thurmond, and Thurmond's black maid. Wilson was among those who publicly doubted her assertion that Thurmond had a child out of wedlock. Wilson said even if her story was true, she should not have revealed it because "it's a smear" on Thurmond's image and was a way to "diminish" Thurmond's legacy.[78] After Thurmond's family acknowledged the truth of Washington-Williams' revelation, Wilson apologized but said that he still thought that she should not have revealed that Thurmond was her father.[79] smear on the thurmond's legacy? what is thurmond's legacy?
