So what is the Tea Party?

Washington County Tea Party Faces Early Opposition

The Tea Party movement has been very vocal in its opposition of the Healthcare Reform Bill.
Some people in Washington County are trying to organize their own chapter, but are running into some opposition of their own.
But the group is refusing to let it stop them from pursuing its goal.
St. Theresa's Catholic Church was supposed to be the location for Washington County's first Tea Party meeting on March 18th.
But it never happened.
"It was pretty shocking to me to get a call from the Monseigneur that we had to cancel the meeting."
Diane Vitale claims someone called the Church Diocese in Pensacola, saying the group was using the church to host a political movement.
"They were threatening to destroy the status of tax exemption for the church."
Vitale and her friend, Karen Schoen, say the Tea Party is not politically motivated.
Both are members of Bay County's group and believe Washington County needs its own Tea Party.
"We were pleasantly surprised to find out that people in the county were very interested in the way their county was being run and the lack of information that was being disseminated from meetings," says Schoen.
Both Vitale and Schoen allege the county is misappropriating funds and failing to promote the possible economic development opportunities of the new Bay County Airport.
"So if we have limited means, they should be spent on things that will benefit the entire county, not just a few, not just for the whim of a few."
County officials would not comment on the subject pending a lawsuit over misappropriated funds.
Nor could we find anyone who is opposed to the Tea Party group meeting at the church.
"These people are not going to stop us from having a Tea Party that the community wants."

------------------------------------------------------
So apparently they aren't politically motivated, but only discuss politics and politicians. Just a local sampling.

About NewsBusters.org

Welcome to NewsBusters, a project of the Media Research Center (MRC), the leader in documenting, exposing and neutralizing liberal media bias.

Well, there ya go. I'm heading back to the site- it was pretty entertaining! Where else can you find a source for a "Waterboarding Instructor" t-shirt?

Pretty similar to "Media Matters for America" which "is a Web-based, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media."

Media watch dog organizations like this play a very important role in monitoring the main street media. I enjoy the points raised by these an other organizations because I like to get all sides of the story. Some folks I suppose would prefer one sided news, which is unfortunate.

These are Tea Party images. You can google more. I'm not going to get into all of this other than to post these. What's the old saying "A picture is worth a thousand words...."

Gidget, you're really opening up a progressive can of worms by posting inoffensive tea partier protest signs like this. Search around on google images to find what your party's extremists have been painting on cardboard and carting around over the last ten years. ;-)

As an atheist I have to giggle when I see a sign that says "God only asks for 10%". God never asked for anything monetarily. In fact it has been proven over and over that tithing is a myth.

If you have any proof of these allegations, please post them otherwise shut the eff up.

Anybody who would defend what is coming from the teabaggers has lost credibility. Tim McVeigh would be right at home among them.

Same three stories, over and over and over again. The Lewis and Frank reports have already been pretty widly discredited, Lewis himself later recanted the story. In the Parkinson's thing, which I might point out was not a racial incident, the guy responsible apologized for what he did.

Your white washing a large grass roots movement based rumors and information planted by the other side.

Here's a little taste of what liberals have been dishing out toward some of the tea party supports -

They've been called Oreos, traitors and Uncle Toms, and are used to having to defend their values. Now black conservatives are really taking heat for their involvement in the mostly white tea party movement—and for having the audacity to oppose the policies of the nation's first black president.

"I've been told I hate myself. I've been called an Uncle Tom. I've been told I'm a spook at the door," said Timothy F. Johnson, chairman of the Frederick Douglass Foundation, a group of black conservatives who support free market principles and limited government.

From the same article:

McGlowan believes the tea party movement has been unfairly portrayed as monolithically white, male and middle-aged, though she acknowledged blacks and Hispanics are a minority at most events.
Racist protest signs at some tea party rallies and recent reports by U.S. Reps. John Lewis, D-Ga., and Barney Frank, D-Mass., that tea partyers shouted racial and anti-gay slurs at them have raised allegations of racism in the tea party movement.
Black members of the movement say it is not inherently racist, and some question the reported slurs. "You would think?something that offensive?you would think someone got video of it," Bazar, the conservative blogger, said.

I don't think they are as bad as some are saying, but there is a big "scared a black man is president" contingent in there. And as has always happened during economic downturns, racism and xenophobia are more prevalent.

There is a large mainstream segment who really are involved because of concerns about our country, but the level of disinformation, hype, and wackos is drowning them out.

30A, your usage of the term "white washing" is incorrect. It means to cover up and gloss over flaws and failures. You're the one doing the white washing.

I think these in all fairness well represent the majority of those attending these rallies. It is right in line with some family of mine who did attend or would have liked to have attended.

The teabagger movement has given license to every extremist to spew his/her bile without shame. Not all teabaggers are extremists, but when you lie down with dogs you get up with fleas. Just looking at some of the signs at the rallies shows how vile some of these people are. I would be ashamed to be associated with any movement where these things happen. Like I said, Tim McVeigh would feel right at home at a teabagger rally. KKK, too.

The spitting and racial slurs were made up by the Democrats to turn focus away from what they are doing. Discredit those who disagree with you. It's the Alinsky way. Dems have been digging themselves into a massive hole. It wont be long before they are covered over with sand.

OMG a peaceful protest! How horrible. I thought you had some pics of them flippng cars, lighting fires and looting stores. You might not agree with them nor do I on some points but to label them violent is absurd. If a single video of tea party violence existed do you think the liberal press would be airing it on every outlet available?

Innocent until proven guilty is out the window when it comes to politics right? Show me the video instead of accusing folks of dementia in need of Obamacare.

Dems want republicans and tea party folk to get violent and rude, why is that? In reality it was the GOP's office that received bullets. The bullets have been forgotten yet the made up racial slurs continue to take precendence.

The Republican office was shot by a moron randomly firing a gun in the air - it was not a target or intentional. (just another moron "baring his arms")

However, the fact that multiple offices, governors, and elected representatives have been threatened for their voting record or mainstream beliefs speaks volumes about the current state of politics and "acceptable" behavior.

I never thought they weren't peaceful, I do think they advocate violence.

Did you read the sign? A man wearing a hat that says "Man of Faith" holding a sign with a racial slur, which it looks like was purposely misspelled as though that makes it "not count". Lovely. A real leader. I can certainly justify staying at a rally where he is one of the organizers and expecting real solutions to our problems.

I know that anti-war, anti-Bush protesters marched with signs that accused Bush of horrible things. As I have said before, they were NOT being egged on by Democratic members of Congress, nor were members of Congress speaking at rallies where idiots were parading around with "Bush is a terrorist" signs.

The conservatives I respect are keeping their distance.

That's Dale Robertson. He showed up at a rally in Texas and they booted his ass out.

I wasn't referring to the signs, all of which seem pretty tame to me. Comparatively though, some of the stuff I've seen from the left is far more extreme. For example, a picture of Bush with a gun shot in his forehead? What would be the reaction if someone showed up at a tea party rally with something similar? Thankfully, stuff like that isn't take place.

I don't like any of the signs that discredit our President, whether I support every decision he makes or not. I don't feel such a display is in good taste or helps promote what a group is trying to accomplish. And I certainly do not think it improves our image to the world.

However what is happening now to President Obama also happened to President Bush. Not much has changed except the colors of the team uniform.

There is no doubt that there were reprehensible signs at some anti-Bush rallies. I only posted the N word sign for those in denial who say there is no racism at teabagger rallies. When you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas. How anybody in their right mind can defend this movement after seeing the blatant, outright racism on display is simply beyond me. If you don't believe there is a racist faction at the tea parties, you have your head up your...in the sand.

By that logic, no one should be supporting the progressive movement either. One bad eggs makes a bad bunch, throw them all out?

I never ever liked or condoned those types of anti-Bush posters although I never saw one as extreme as the one you mentioned (I'm certain they were out there though)

Wasn't the tea party movement started by Ron Paul supporters? Seems it has unfortunately gotten to be more in line with the Sarah Palin/Limbaugh/Beck types now. Ron Paul followers are usually a lot less extreme and more toward the middle. (most, certainly not all) Too bad they didn't stay "in charge" of the movement or "revolution". I know they hate seeing it go this crazy.

This is about race with many - not all - as is evident from the emails I've received from LA and AR family and friends. We can never say that it isn't about race with some but of course no one would claim to say that it is about race with the entire GOP. But no doubt it is there with many.

Let's hope the middle will prevail somehow through all this and we can get to work to make things better for all.

What I'm most curious about is why all the attacks on the tea partiers seem to revolve around superficial issues. Maybe this is all backlash from some of the more superficial attacks on Obama? I would think if people disagreed with tea partiers, they would criticize their policy stances - limited government, individual rights, balanced budgets, respect for the Constitution, and fair taxation. But I've really not heard much if anything from the progressives related to why these policies are bad for the country. It's all about protest signs, supposed racial attacks and "the spitting incident". I have to wonder, are progressives avoiding the policy discussion?

Progressives know their ideas are unfavorable with the majority. They always have been. Prohibition is another great Progressive piece of legislation. The think they know what's best for other people and the ends justify the means no matter how they get there. In order to get unfavorable legislation passed they have to keep everyone's attention focused on something else.

Obama's right hand man Rahm Emmanuel has said don't ever let a good crisis go to waste. They just have to keep finding ways to make them happen.

Look up Saul Alinsky. This is an old playbook.
