First of all, how old are they? Determine how long you will have to put up with them. You must welcome them as much as possible because you want your home to be the one where they hang out.
Second, buy cheap food. Big boxes of cheap cereal. Little Debbies. Generic stuff. They can take it or leave it.

Most of them are my son's age (15), so we'll be putting up with them for awhile!!! a few of them are seniors, 17 or 18. I do want my son's friends to hang out here, they are good kids, we just can't continue to feed them!!

I honestly don't know if this is the right thing for the beach...I assume it's pretty warm there by now...but what about a really large pan of something? Mac and cheese and casserole-type things of that ilk? The kids could help themselves and heat it up in the mic...those types of things are quite inexpensive to make. As I said, perhaps it's too warm for this type of dish down there now? If so, how about keeping a "ton" of frozen hotdogs and buns, of course, on hand. Again, pretty easy to help themselves to a few "miked" hotdogs and not too too expensive either.

I can imagine that teenage boys are eating machines. I would make some rules. No one allowed in the pantry. You decide what is available for them to eat and set it out. It's great they want to hang out at your son's home - this is a real good thing - so you gotta feed 'em if you wanna keep 'em around. maybe:
chips and dip
tea and water
popcorn
trail mix
sandwich stuff
I like the hot dog idea, but not sure if I would want them cooking in my kitchen.
Don't invite them to dinner unless you mean it!

I have done as the quote said above, just buys lots of cheap stuff - they eat and they love it and they hang out at your house. Won't be long before they are driving and going out and about and stopping at the local fast food joint to eat - enjoy having them while you can!!!

Go to sam's club and buy a bunch of stuff....crackers, pop corn, chips, vanilla wafers...apples....what price do you put on the security that they are safe at your house???

we were talking about this exact same thing at work, the tech i have at night has a son and daughter who is eating her out of house and home with their friends. she told her husband she didn't care if she had to get a 2nd job just to feed them, at least she knew where they were at and what they were doing.

Pepperidge Farm goldfish (in the big box) and the above items are cheaply obtained and kids love 'em. They snack on bowls of cereal, as well.
I've lost count of how many pizzas we've ordered.
With our older son, who was very wild indeed, we did have a couple of nights where we were calling around trying to find him.
Believe me, it is a much better feeling to have the kid and his friends eating you out of house and home.

no wonder the majority of kids growing up today are overweight. The nuts and berries suggestion is not only much healthier for the kids, but when you add fruits to the mix, you get a balance of proteins, carbs, and water foods, all of which will fill kids bellies. You could also buy gatorade mix in big containers and keep a big jug filled with the Gatorade. Kids will drink it, and it fills them up rapidly.

put a jar on the kitchen counter, every kid gets to pay a dollar a day to eat. not too much of a sting to their pocket, and helps defray cost.

Well, upfront costs will be higher, but she will be teaching children. Doing the right thing is not always the cheapest route. She may save her kids from having a heart attack at age 38. :idontno: If we all did this and it spread as rapidly as cancer, we would have lower health care costs and insurance premiums, thereby potentially saving ten fold, rather than buying crap food.
I am speaking from a junk food junkie kid's point of view. Growing up I ate crap food, only because I had the option. Today, I still eat some crap foods, but I think if I had grown up eating healthy foods, I would be in much better health today as well as in the future. ;-)
