Many of you guys know that sunshine is a rescue dog. She's perfect in everyway, almost. She has tremendous separation anxiety. She somehow hurt her foot Wednesday. My neighbor told me last night that when I was gone on Wednesday that she sat in the window screaming for 6 hours non-stop while I had to go to a meeting in PCB.

I take her everywhere I can but this is the third time a neighbor has told me that she screeches when I'm gone. I think she probably hurt foot falling off the window sill because that night is when the foot swelling and hopping started.

I have bought her a doll, a blanket. The cat is here with her when I'm gone but she just freaks when I leave her in the house. We don't know much about her history, so I'm beginning to think she was left in a house during the storm or maybe abandoned by the roadside when they couldn't take their pets on the bus during Katrina.

Tonight I went out and my friends brought their pug to babysit her. when we got home we got out of the car at the end of the street so she wouldn't see the car drive up and we could listen to see if she was yelling. While she wasn't screaming, she was sitting looking out the front door when we walked around the corner. Then we go through the "she's home" freaking out, running around me wanting to be picked up and it doesn't stop until I pick her up and hold her close until her little pounding heart stops pounding.

I really don't feel I can commit to another dog right now and have resisted putting her in a cage when I'm gone. Has anyone else had such problems with separation anxiety and found a solution without drugging the pet? I just dont know what to do and now she's getting so upset that she's hurting herself. Any suggestions would be great.

Here's the company's website. You can look at the 'classic' Kongs and then pick out her size. Or maybe the Puppy Kongs would work in this case. I haven't checked prices on this website or compared them to Petco, but I think this site is good because you get to read up on them and see all the possible products they have. Halle has 2 Kongs, and she loves them! Sometimes when she is napping they are both beside her on her pillow!!

I don't know what it is, but dogs go crazy over them! Must be because they are essentially treat-delivery systems :clap_1: !

Sorry guys, been planning my international tickets before tax day :funn: :funn:
Boy, have I got paper!

Anyway here's our update. We got our first brief tail wag yesterday afternoon. She also walked up to the dismantled crate (after the big wash:lol: ) and sniffed it so she must not be afraid of it :idontno: . Yesterday I had a couple work people and had to step outside and of course, she started the screaming! After numerous times of excusing myself and going to the door to tell her "no bark", she went and layed down. When I got back inside, she got some chicken --- MMMMMMMM! We went through this process on 3 different occasions to get her to shut her yap up when I walk outside. Rest of the day was quiet - mostly licking feet and sleeping.

This morning, she actually got perky. Came into me while in the shower and gave me the "I want to go out eyes". When we went downstairs and she saw me pick up her leash, she actually started the happy dance (circles and tail wags). You guys know that dance. :lolabove: She also is giving me the "i wub you looks again" so I feel so much better.

Kathydwells, you're a great person for taking care of that baby. Thank you. Not a lot of people would have gone to the expense and trouble and my heart goes out to you. It also gives me reinforcement and courage to do what I have to with Sunshine.

MKH, popped into the website. So many different types of Kongs. Some look too easy to get the treat and some look impossible  . Do you have a suggestion on a medium challenge one that would be good for a pointy nosed starter? Thank you so much for your time in checking that out also. Very kind of you.

Cil and Audie, I think my little girl does a bit of acting with those feet but I know her feet were quite damaged when they found her. You are both so great for taking care of your baby's to the end. My daughter rescued a dog with severe hip dysplasia and it breaks my heart to see that poor guy try to get up or down. It's such a difficult decision, I know. I have a friend who listened to her vets advise to put her cat down and it was a very traumatic event for her. It has been just one year and I've found a cat that needs a home and she's finally in a place where she can think about replacing her sweetie. You guys shouldn't be embarrased. You should where shirts that say "I love him/her so much that I'll carry him/her if I need to." I admire you for being there for them in their senior years. :clap_1: So many people just get rid of them like a pair of old shoes when they need help.

Ms Kitty - Now you know how we all feel, waiting to see what's going to out of you on your next post! :floor:

Thank all of you for your support and concern. Sunshine and I love all of you  and are so happy we finally moved to the lounge:lol:.

Gonna run to Tampa tomorrow. Have an appointment to find out about one of those string face lifts :floor: so I will have to fill you in on that escapade next:rolling: . Has anyone done it?

Cork, thanks for the update. I have been thinking of you and Sunshine! I know you will gently lead her into this. She is so lucky to have you.

Where are you going in Tampa? I don't know much about these things but I do know the Marcadis center does fantastic work. You aren't going there by any chance are you?

Oh Cork....you mean the Lifestyle Lift?? I looked into Thermage for the sags. My dermo suggested a thread style lift. I got skeered and decided to look at my jowls a bit longer!!! Keep us posted. And PM me so we can get together!

unfortunately there will be no carrying dory around - at 110 lbs we may have to put her in a wheelbarrow. it would help her legs if she would lose weight (mine too !) but she's like me and just loves to eat ! i told the hubby when she goes, i do not want another pet. i get too attached to them, and cannot take my heart breaking again.

keep up the good work cork - with patience and love, sunshine will be ok. and she may even one day look at the crate as her home. by the way, she was punishing you for making her miserable - we get that treatment all the time, like when dory goes to the groomer, or when we go on vacation. we have to "earn" back her love for a few days. good god, my life is ruled by a big hairy beast, and it ain't mr audie !

Miss Cork,

I would recommend just the 'classic' Kong, in the small size. Halle has 2 in the medium size, and I got them when she was a puppy and weighted about 12 pounds. Now she's 56 pounds, and she could probably go up to a bigger size. But for small breeds, the smallest kong is about the size of a small child's fist, and they are all made out of the same rubber material, so it should really challenge her without being too much for her to handle. Dogs are really intrigued by these; that's why I suggested (and some others have, too) getting her at least 2. We have an indoor Kong and an outdoor Kong. The outdoor Kong travels with us also. Just fill it up with a little peanut butter, cheez whiz, soft treats, and hand it over to her. She'll love it. They also make Kong Stuffing, which you can buy in any pet store. It's in a can, and it's supposed to be peanut butter or liver-flavored 'stuff' that you can squirt in it. So even if her little teeth can't get at the treats, she can certainly lick the peanut butter out. She'll stay busy for an hour, and not even notice you, Mom. Are you ready to compete with a little dog toy for your baby's attention and love?

You guys are so great. Didn't go international but wish I had  . sunshine and I have been without email since the day we left due to my mail server :pissed: but finally got it resolved Thursday and drove back last night.

Have so much to catch up on. We have an assortment of Kongs. She hasn't been alone since I was working on the computer issue at my place and didn't leave the house.

We're on our way over to Grayton to paint her picture on the Dogs of Grayton wall. Will take a photo and hopefully get it posted.

Will catch up on everything this weekend and we'll see how the Kongs are going to do this upcoming week when I'm sure she's gonna have to tough it out without me a few time.

Sooooo glad to be back. It was a rough week and a half but all is well at the beach . Really missed you guys
