I am becoming a disgruntled Obama supporter

On top of some of his decisions rubbing me wrong, I am very unhappy with how my guy Barry has seemingly pissed away an opportunity to shine in his response to the oil spill. The way I feel right this second, I can't say I would vote for him in 2012. So riddle me this-

who do you believe could be running against hIm that is worth considering and why?

Note: I don't consider myself a democrat or a republican so no one is off limits due to party affiliation or lack thereof.

Unfortunately, the digression has begun. What was that, Gidget, with the trainwreck?

It's here!

Please educate me.

OK, first define 'a few' in regard to the job losses you cite.

I wish Bobby Jindal would just STFU. He complains the government won't authorize any help yet he has had permission to use 6000 National Guard troops but only chose to use 15% of them. His state's coastline is covered in black goo but he wants to punch more holes in ocean floor not giving a damn that it is affecting wildlife and coastlines in the three states to the east including Florida that doesn't have rigs and doesn't want them. Thousands of businesses, the jobs that go with them and a way of life are being destroyed but his only concern is his state is losing a few jobs on the 1% of rigs affected by the moratorium. You may not like Obama but at least he never ran away from his given name. If a hurricane comes I wish they would stuff Jindal in the hole to plug it till the storm passes.

Pretty strong words Poppy. I think Jindal has handled the oil spill in his area like a true leader would. He is fighting for his state. He has been on it since day 1. As far as the oil rigs...they supply jobs, and money to the area. I understand him completely and I ALSO UNDERSTAND his frustration with the Obama government...they arrived late to the party and didn't bring a gift.

Obama didn't run away from his name?....didn't he go by Barry in college?

Don't worry about Jindal. After that little Misterrogers moment on national television, he's going nowhere. "Hello boys and girls, I'm Bobby Jindal, and I wanna be your friend."

Sounds like you are saying she should just, "lay back and enjoy it".

Actually her current line of work does indeed resemble the world's oldest profession. Urban Dictionary: media whore

Hey Geo, what was your original question/thought?.....

I think he might choose to be a one term president because he is making far-sighted choices that will be obviously unpopular in a four year cycle. I can't believe people are ready to throw him under the bus after one and a half years. I didn't hate Bush right off the bat. I was indifferent until he decided to invade Iraq even though most of the country thought it was a mistake.

A healthcare bill designed by special interests that'll hike all our premiums and inflate the national debt, bailing out auto companies and the unions and investment banks, national debt 100%+ as a percentage of GDP, 50%+ of GDP engulfed by government spending, failing to close Guantanamo, continued quagmire in Afghanistan, Iran running amuck in the middle east, border still not secure, tax hikes, ...

He'll be a one termer alright, but it won't be by choice, and it'll be for a lot of very good reasons.

To answer your original question Geo - I don't know of any good candidates right now for 2012. I don't know of many good politicians to be honest. Washington is a soup of corruption and infighting run by people completely isolated from reality. It's a mess, and I don't think any one person can fix it.

I see how you get Barry from Barack. I don't see how you get Bobby from Piyush Amrit.

Yes he is fighting for his state and I truly admire that and understand his frustration but his only concern seems to be his state and my concern is the entire gulf region. If he wants to continue building a nasty skyline of rigs off his coast I don't care except it is affecting his neighbors. He wants to save jobs in the very industry that caused this fiasco through negligence while countless jobs including mine have been threatened or lost. Remember that for some this could end away of life that goes back generations.

No you're wrong, if he becomes my President I will support him as I have done every president before him. I may not like him or the the decisions he makes but I will still refer to him as "my President".

The article seems to paint Obama as a thoughtful person who sees things in the long-term broad picture. I'm sure a lot of you would like him to hurry up and invade somebody, but maybe some of his policies won't show much improvement in 2 to 3 years. Maybe he's doing things that will make an improvement in a decade or two. If he just slows down the decline we have been in for some time, I would vote for him again. Let's see what the next two years bring..

I question the underlined statement you made...I believe you are giving him more credit than he is due...he is NOT doing things that will make improvements in the future...he is destroying the future, and doing it over the protests of the American people. He is destroying the America I have known and loved for 66 years. OUR leader should listen to the people not shove down his laws, bills, and programs down our throats. He should not use the power that was granted by the American people to impart his personal agenda...his change, his hope, his "transparency" ...he is turning out to be the "false promise." I look forward to 2012....just hope America can hold on that long.

Any other thoughts on 2012 Presidential Candidates?

I'd like to see a few topics drop off the table by then:
  • Afghanistan (because we are winding down)
  • The Gulf cleanup (because its gone really well)
  • Immigration (because its been intelligently fixed)
Beyond that, I don't see the economy or energy or education or the deficit being any less of an issue then.

And that concept is probably the very 1st thing we as Americans need to get our collective arms around. We've devolved into holding a deepseated belief that one person can (or even should). How childish.

I like the concept you express Poppy...especially the part that you might not like him or the decisions he makes but you would still refer to him as "my president".

I try to be respectful to our president, I really do try...but sometimes it really is hard to swallow and I lose it...because he is not what he represented himself as... he came along and promised so much to the American people...he got young people involved in the process...he was the media darling...he offered folks a new way of government .....I think that we were all hoodwinked and got played...and now we are paying for our lack of researching the true man. It was like a part of our country, couldn't see, couldn't hear, couldn't believe what he was planning. He shared his beliefs many times when he let his campaign guard down, but not everyone listened. I've seen many presidents in my life time, none are perfect, but most of them have had America's best interests at heart...I just am not sure that Obama has that in his heart...I think he has been schooled by many radicals, including his beloved mother, and I fear that they have colored his thinking on many issues. I wish I was wrong...I really hoped I was wrong when he won....but he hasn't proved me wrong... I fear for the America that he will leave us when he departs the White House. I fear what our Congress has passed and the debt that America has occurred...what have they done to our grand kids and their grand kids?

Geo's original question...made me really think...I am not sure that there is one person who can lead America...maybe the job has become too big for any one person...expecially with a Congress like we now have...our society has become a "me society"...going to Congress has become "a what can it do for me job", not what can I do for my country. I have rambled long enough...I just wish that I could have faith in my president...I really do.

Then, the single person shouldn't say he/she will.
