Obviously we don't have them yet, but PPP has a new poll out indicating it'll be Rubio, Meek, and Crist for the final Senate race.

I haven't seen any polling on the house or governor elections though. Anyone seen anything?

I strongly disagree that it's a lack of action on the part of constituents that is responsible for our lack of 4 lanes.

Don't give me the padded bill for trips to Washington & Tallahassee, feasibility studies, and lobbyists, and then tell me lack of voter initiative is why it didn't happen.

If voters are really not supportive or vocal about the project, how do they justify all those expenditures supposedly on behalf of this project?

I think he is trying to make the argument that we need more trips to Washington to lobby on our behalf. I just do not understand why we elect someone from this area, and then the taxpayer is suppose to fund the government official to go to Washington to get what we need in this area. All seems like an insider scam to me that some people have learn to play. Instead of consulting us and charging us, why not, Let's Get to Work!

I am just so tired of excuses and expecting us to pay people extra to do what is supposedly their job ......................... not to mention constantly paying for out of area "consultants," "retirement packages," and "incentives/bonuses" to hire people during 10%+ unemployment.

Here's my last post on this topic. First and foremost, I believe that WC local officials are doing what they can to get the project funded. My thoughts were initially in regard to 30A Shopper's post about Lawson vs Boyd. My post was that Boyd is needed to make it come to fruition. That dialogue headed down a long and circuitous path that has ended up that I am advocating for more trips to DC. I was advocating for the local populace to be heard through their elected officials AND through their own actions.

SB- as for local communication. I have a question, who has written an email or a call to Rep. Boyd's office and asked him to support the County's SAFETEA-Lu request for the bridge or highway expansion. Locals have conytacted them about other issues of importance? I am just saying it could make an impact and isn't a lot of work.

In other news, Rubio is now up by 10, Crist, Meek far behind.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Florida shows Marco Rubio attracting 40% of the vote, while Charlie Crist picks up 30% in the race to become the state?s next U.S. senator. The new Democratic nominee Kendrick Meek earns 21% support.

What a dynamic team.

1. Rubio
2. Scott
3. Bondi

Very dynamic indeed!

1. IRS prblems, money laundering, misuse of Republican funds.
2. Major white collar felon
3. Sarah Palin's Fla.pick.

If you think it's bad that we elect people to represent us, that in turn hire lobbyists to get things done in D.C., just wait until we get a toll road across the bay, where they charge $5+ per trip. Forget about getting labor in South Walton from the north end of the bay. I imagine the cost per trip will probably be more like $8 by the time the thing is constructed. The NWFLTCA has been talking about toll road for a while. It wouldn't surprise me at all.

I know what Beach SiO2 is talking about. You have to play by the Fed's rules if you want to get funding for a project this large, and while I mean no disrespect towards our local BCC, it is way over their heads, and is best handled by lobbyists pushing the guys in DC.

Someone commented that we elect officials to do the job, and Beach Si02 replied that we need to call Boyd. He is right in that you don't hire someone to do a job and then not give them any instruction. Politicians are the same as an employee. They work for us, but we need to give them direction and tell them what we need. Don't stop at the hiring. Directing and reviewing their work are also our roles as citizens. I know Boyd upsets many people like the 500+ Sally Mae workers he canned in Panama City, but it is people like Boyd who also helped get another 25 Raptors stationed at Tyndell AFB.

Just read AlfaCrab's post above. Now the first one is really funny to me because I think it was Charlie Crist who also took Republican's money and ran to the independent party with most of it. Talk about funny.

As far as #1 Meek has major ethics issues and Crist took the Republican money and ran.
As to #2, we shall see.
As to #3, she did not seek the endorsement and has a good record as a Prosecutor.

I don't disagree that it is citizens' responsibility to hold our elected officials accountable--however, and it is a big however IMO--elected officials, especially ones who have been around as long as Allen Boyd has--should have a public servant attitude enough so that they take some initiative!

When did Congressman Boyd hold a town hall meeting in South Walton to discuss the citizens need for a better evacuation route? i. e.., four laning of highway 331?

We have a responsibility to call him--and many of us do--he also has a responsibility as an elected official to look into the major needs and issues of his district.

I have known Al Lawson for 30 years--and as I said before, we would not have had to call him--and he would have been effective in both Washington and Tallahassee.

So, shall we set up a Town Hall meeting on the Four laning of Highway 331 and invite Boyd and Miller and all the BCC? Wonder who would show up? Or do we just continue to fund more trips to DC and hire more consultants? Or do we wait for a Republican to be elected and get that Toll Road for sure?

You can just about bet that Boyd will show up the same way he showed up at the Dist. 2 forum held jointly by the WCTA and Sandestin. He sent a representative to express his regrets for not attending due to "another engagement".
He has been in Washington long enough. Everyone should retire at some point and he is long overdue.

Steve Southerland-the guy who won the Republican nomination- didn't show up either.

The only part of 331 that is in Congressman Boyd's district is four-laned.

I think we shot ourselves in the foot by putting so much emphasis on a toll bridge. I am with Murray on this one, it's a bad idea.

Besides the bridge is practically four lanes wide already, I'm no engineer but shouldn't we consider an alternative using what we have. Just saying.

In some way, the redistricting by the Legislature in 2002 (?) which put District 2 in South Walton could have hurt us. 331 from the Bay north is Miller and 331 South is Boyd, does that work well for us?

One of the unfortunate things about smaller goverments and reducing government spending is that it can take longer for goverment to build roads.

There ain't no free lunch.

If we want the road widened, then why don't we do it? Why does the federal government need to be involved at all? Fund the project somehow and do the work.

There ain't no free lunch.

Yet, the answer to 331 is to get some politician in washington to earmark the work into another bill? Sounds like we want our new bridge for free. (Or actually, we want future generations to pay for it, with interest.)

I don't give you a lot of love shopper but you get one here.

We want it all, we want it now and we want someone else to pay for it.

Have a good day.

I don't always agree with your views either, but I appreciate your commentary on tax issues and the like.
