Obamacare Vote Proving Fatal to Dems

Gibbs says people are voting local issues and has nothing to do with the administration. That's how delusional things have gotten. In time this election will be the turning point of our economic downturn provided the lame duck congress doesn't inflict more damage.

last time I checked no one was forcing anyone to participate.

There is a forum for local government and politics...if you aren't interested in anything outside of South Walton, why post here--stay in the local area.

However, everything that happens outside of here does affect us in some way--and people have a responsibility and a right to be involved in our government -- that's the way our system is designed to work; everyone gets to have an opinion and to vote when things aren't going the way they prefer...so, if you don't want to participate that's your choice, but don't blame your dissatisfaction with the way things are going nationally, or the way some people choose to express their opinions, on the local community forum's choice of topics FTLOG.

Maybe I was too blunt. I realize nobody is forced to participate. I'm not especially surprised by how things are going nationally, from either liberal or conservative points of view.

What I am saying, and feel deeply, is that SoWal, all of it, got to be more divisive and contentious since the rise of the political sections. For instance, 30a shopper is one of the top five thanked posters, and his posts are almost exclusively poilitical. There was a sense of community here that has diminished considerably. When we're arguing about national politics, we can't be good friends. IMHO, there are plenty of other homes for discussing national politics. Probably not a popular point of view for political junkies.

well, I guess I don't feel as you do about it. I enjoy the back and forth and the opportunity to discuss issues...I have not found it has diminished my ability to have friends; in fact, quite the opposite is true in my case. I have learned lots from people who post here and found many new friends.

I especially don't like what I perceive as a lack of compassion that sometimes comes out; but, I am sure many don't like my strong feelings about helping others aka bleeding heart therapy LOL...but, it's all educational if one does not take it too seriously. It is, after all, a message board--a way to communicate and build a community, but certainly not the only way.

I am sorry that a discussion of national events has diminished the experience for you. Maybe if you were contributing more, not less, it would better for all of us. Perhaps you could be the balance that we so often need. Why not give it a try?

It's entirely true, she can't be refused for pre-existing conditions. That includes the car accident she got into yesterday. She would have to pay the hospital for her initial emergency stay, but as soon as she applies for insurance, she's covered beyond that.

Your definition of preexisting condition is way off.

In the past people were denied insurance coverage due to preexisting conditions such as HIV, Diabetes, past instances of cancer, chronic illness, and even family history.

The idea that you can break your leg and just stop by the insurance sales office on your way to the hospital is wrong, that is not a preexisting condition.

One of the biggest reasons that insurance companies loved the preexisting condition clauses was a professional courtesy. Someone changed jobs, carriers, or any number of reasons they would need new insurance and the new company could either deny or exclude something that was previously covered.

Been stuck with the same, horribly expensive, coverage for years. Once you have one episode with an ongoing problem, there's no changing companies, unless you plan to pay for all the work yourself.

Denial for pre-existing sounds reasonable from the insurer's point of view, but simply kills the (now un-) insured.

Scooter, why do you insist on being venomous?

Why do you insist on being so sensitive?

I'm not going to even read an opinion piece from a right wing think tank.

Got any real reports? Even the title isn't definitive, and makes it clear that it's an opinion piece loosely based on facts.

Intern: How do you make a budget?

Accountant: We use last years numbers and multiply them by an increase.

Intern: How do you determine the increase amount?

Accountant: We usually pull the number out of our butts.

Intern: I'm gonna work at Enron forever!

I like DISCUSSING politics/national issues and hearing what others think about topics, but I hate when people just stereotype, snipe, and regurgitate their party or their chosen media outlet's talking points.

Some of my favorite political posters are those who are typically on the other side of the issue, but actually discuss the issue, post their own opinions and thoughts, and read and respond to my questions and comments. They usually teach me something about the issue and make me reevaluate or readjust my stance.
