TRENDING: An Unscripted Moment on Palin’s book tour – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs

Spirit Lake, Iowa (CNN) ? It was an unscripted moment on Sarah Palin's tour to promote her new book, "America by Heart." As hundreds of Palin's fans filed inside a cordoned off area of a northern Iowa Walmart today, this CNN crew popped the question asked of countless potential White House contenders: "Are you any closer to an announcement on running for President?"
The country music that Palin's handlers had blaring at the signing station presumably to drown out such questions suddenly stopped. We asked the question again.

"Am I doing interviews?" the former Alaska governor asked. "I thought I got to talk to the nice people. And where's our music and where's our good enthusiasm?" she persisted.
We repeated the question. "Not any closer. No," she responded.
With the music still off, we squeezed in another question about former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney's comments on Wednesday night's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno." On the program, Romney seemed to take a jab at Palin's decision to step down as Alaska's governor. "It's hard to imagine a circumstance where I would quit," Romney said.
As of today's book signing, Palin indicated she hadn't heard Romney's remarks. "What did Governor Romney say on the 'Tonight Show'?" she asked us.
Upon hearing his comment, her response was brief. "Oh, he probably had some different conditions," she said. It was an apparent reference to the controversies that swirled around her final days as Governor including ethics complaints and a legal dispute over a state trooper who was once married to her sister. Palin's actions were cleared by a state board investigating the matter. In her resignation speech last year, Palin suggested that costly legal battles had forced her to step down.
There was no opportunity to follow up on Palin's comments at the book signing. This CNN crew was informed our allotted time to cover the event was up. The event itself was tightly controlled. Customers were told no cell phones or cameras. Representatives of the media were escorted in to Palin's book signing station, three at a time. As for that music, Palin asked us if we had turned it off. "Because that wouldn't be cool if you did. These Iowa people, they got my back. And I got their back," Palin said after one of her handlers put her hand in front of our camera.
For the record, we didn't turn the music off. But it did help."
The turnout at this stop on Palin's book tour was a sign of her continued political strength. As Spirit Lake's Mayor Blain Andera noted, more than 500 people stood in line for Palin's autograph in a town of roughly 5000 people. Andera said he was leaning toward supporting a Palin presidential bid.
Palin urged many of the people in line to also watch her reality TV show, "Sarah Palin's Alaska" on cable's TLC. "I think that she's very funny. I watch her show every Sunday," said Palin fan Emma Dau.
Another Palin fan, Shannon Dunham started camping outside of the Walmart at 3am for an autograph. "She's just a generational, iconic figure and a great example for our girls," Dunham said.

What the article doesn't mention for you non video watchers is when a staffer proceeds to cover the camera lens with their hand.

The questions asked were not attack questions and seemed perfectly valid of any potential candidate. The reporter did go on to point out that Palin is a paid commentator for Fox News and this restricts her interviews.

Are we to the point in America that a news outlet can literally purchase and control a candidate? Apparently so.

She's not a candidate until she says she's officially running and files whatever needs to be filed. She has mentioned that should she run she will have to separate herself from Fox, Hannity, and the likes...

Palin derangement syndrome again? Will you ever tire of her? This is so much worse than the Keynesian syndrome.

Your hate runs deep.

Bush is gone,so they had to transfer their venomous hate towards someone else.It is amazing that a little woman from Alaska can make an entire party salivate with hatred. Why? I think they fear something they cannot relate to (common sense).
I like Palin but her divisiveness will keep her from winning the presidency.

I don't care for Palin, but I also don't care for your dismissing her as "a little woman from Alaska", and I think that she's a strong enough woman that she would take offense as well.

That "little woman" has a very loyal following, and (whether I think it deserved or not) the potential to do big things that would affect everyone. Just my .02.

I just want to say I gave her show a chance. I watched two episodes. The first one had great scenery and nature scenes, I could actually listen to her, she sounded like she really loved and knew the terrain. She wasn't a pansy when it came down to cold weather activities. I thought it was cool Todd's mother is a real Eskimo, etc. It was like watching a Discovery Channel show.

Then, I watched the second episode and although the scenery was still appealing, (they climbed about 10 feet up on Mt. McKinley, and it was a small amount, however, had no idea that there were spots that could suck you up and you had to proceed with caution every step)

However, they showed personal interactions and part of her daily routine and she was walking around in a pair of what looked like Daisy Dukes, Willow's boyfriend went upstairs to Willow's bedroom against Palin's wishes and she did nothing to stop him. The youngest child started yelling at a bear while it was fighting with another bear, Palin mocked her neighbor who was sitting on his porch because she claims he was writing a book about her (if you have so much security, how did this man get such clear access of their comings and goings?)

I felt like I was watching the Osbournes on Ice. I really do not understand the fascination with her? because they think she is real people? (someone told me this) So are many other people, but it doesn't qualify them for holding a high political office and having so much influence.

I don't either, Mango; and "real" compared to what? artificial? It is beyond me -- especially why anyone would say she is a good role model for their daughters? Why?

Part of the problem stems from the republican leadership and punidts like Sean Hannity. They refuse to question her credentials / skills as a leader and treat her with kid gloves in interviews. This is not the person republicans want representing their party. If they don't start questioning her she may well end up doing just that.

I haven't watched the show but the commercials have some gotcha moments that look a little uncomfortable. Liberal, Conservative, Independent, Libertarian, whatever - It doesn't seem possible that a person with their own reality TV show would ever get close to being nominated in America.

You guys are under the impression that you are receiving negative rep because you hold and share opposing views on a "liberal website". As such, you are proud to wear the red chicklets as a badge of honor.

But here's the rub. There are many outspoken conservatives here. Examples include 30aShopper, Idlewind and Andy A. There are many who take unpopular viewpoints. My favorite example is when SHELLY predicted the bursting of the real estate bubble. No one wanted to hear it. But you know what- no red chickets. These Sowallers wear green badges next to their names.

Not that I have delusions that you care but I still feel the need to say it-

I can assure you that the reason you receive negative rep is because of the perceived manner in which you present your disagreement. Not because you are conservatives in the online land of liberals. You won't admit it but this is a very balanced board (politically speaking). Far more balanced than the physical makeup of conservative Walton County.

For the record, I have personally never given you negative rep points.

Liberals are a mean nasty bunch who proclaim to be all loving but secretly harbor extremely bad will towards others who disagree with them. Liberals are the ones that riot in the streets not republicans. I don't sugarcoat my responses to appease the far left like others.

For the record I've never given favorable or unfavorable rep pts because it's childish. This is something you would expect to see on a Hannah Montana board.

Who? Who is mean? Who proclaimed to be all loving? Who harbors bad will toward those who disagree with them? Who riots in the streets? Ugh.

This is an example of what I am saying. No need to sugarcoat responses or appease anyone. But why use the negative blanket generalization about a whole bunch of people who likely agree with you on many (if not most issues)?
:idontno:

Seriously- have you ever gone back and read your own posts as if they were written by someone else? It is eye opening in many ways.

For the record I've never given favorable or unfavorable rep pts because it's childish.

Not true. You have thanked 82 posts so you have given positive rep at least that many times.
This is something you would expect to see on a Hannah Montana board.
Are you as mean to the kids on that board as you are on this one? I kid, I kid...

All of the far left liberals on this board have great reputation because the folks on the right aren't vengeful and bitter. I've never given negative rep to anyone unlike SWGB, Buzz Wienerhead and Lucifer. You have to be insecure and childish if you think wasting your time on this makes any difference. Typical left wing behavior.

There are some serious wackos on the far left here that have great reputation if that tells you anything.
