TRENDING: An Unscripted Moment on Palin’s book tour – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs

Spirit Lake, Iowa (CNN) ? It was an unscripted moment on Sarah Palin's tour to promote her new book, "America by Heart." As hundreds of Palin's fans filed inside a cordoned off area of a northern Iowa Walmart today, this CNN crew popped the question asked of countless potential White House contenders: "Are you any closer to an announcement on running for President?"
The country music that Palin's handlers had blaring at the signing station presumably to drown out such questions suddenly stopped. We asked the question again.

"Am I doing interviews?" the former Alaska governor asked. "I thought I got to talk to the nice people. And where's our music and where's our good enthusiasm?" she persisted.
We repeated the question. "Not any closer. No," she responded.
With the music still off, we squeezed in another question about former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney's comments on Wednesday night's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno." On the program, Romney seemed to take a jab at Palin's decision to step down as Alaska's governor. "It's hard to imagine a circumstance where I would quit," Romney said.
As of today's book signing, Palin indicated she hadn't heard Romney's remarks. "What did Governor Romney say on the 'Tonight Show'?" she asked us.
Upon hearing his comment, her response was brief. "Oh, he probably had some different conditions," she said. It was an apparent reference to the controversies that swirled around her final days as Governor including ethics complaints and a legal dispute over a state trooper who was once married to her sister. Palin's actions were cleared by a state board investigating the matter. In her resignation speech last year, Palin suggested that costly legal battles had forced her to step down.
There was no opportunity to follow up on Palin's comments at the book signing. This CNN crew was informed our allotted time to cover the event was up. The event itself was tightly controlled. Customers were told no cell phones or cameras. Representatives of the media were escorted in to Palin's book signing station, three at a time. As for that music, Palin asked us if we had turned it off. "Because that wouldn't be cool if you did. These Iowa people, they got my back. And I got their back," Palin said after one of her handlers put her hand in front of our camera.
For the record, we didn't turn the music off. But it did help."
The turnout at this stop on Palin's book tour was a sign of her continued political strength. As Spirit Lake's Mayor Blain Andera noted, more than 500 people stood in line for Palin's autograph in a town of roughly 5000 people. Andera said he was leaning toward supporting a Palin presidential bid.
Palin urged many of the people in line to also watch her reality TV show, "Sarah Palin's Alaska" on cable's TLC. "I think that she's very funny. I watch her show every Sunday," said Palin fan Emma Dau.
Another Palin fan, Shannon Dunham started camping outside of the Walmart at 3am for an autograph. "She's just a generational, iconic figure and a great example for our girls," Dunham said.

What the article doesn't mention for you non video watchers is when a staffer proceeds to cover the camera lens with their hand.

The questions asked were not attack questions and seemed perfectly valid of any potential candidate. The reporter did go on to point out that Palin is a paid commentator for Fox News and this restricts her interviews.

Are we to the point in America that a news outlet can literally purchase and control a candidate? Apparently so.

All of the far left liberals on this board have great reputation because the folks on the right aren't vengeful and bitter. I've never given negative rep to anyone unlike SWGB, Buzz Wienerhead and Lucifer. You have to be insecure and childish if you think wasting your time on this makes any difference. Typical left wing behavior.

There are some serious wackos on the far left here that have great reputation if that tells you anything.

Whacko is when you wish physical harm on somebody. Take a look at some of your posts. You seem emotionally unequipped to deal with those who disagree with you and just get on with it.

I don't care for Palin, but I also don't care for your dismissing her as "a little woman from Alaska", and I think that she's a strong enough woman that she would take offense as well.

That "little woman" has a very loyal following, and (whether I think it deserved or not) the potential to do big things that would affect everyone. Just my .02.
I think you missed my point,I was not trying to come across as condescending at all.One little woman has an entire party in an upheaval.

You're being childish in your post, in my opinion you're one of the most insecure and childish posters I've seen in my 2 years as a member, now stop whining and grab your blanket and go suck your thumb.

The truth makes you bitter. You can't argue with how things are on this board. Only Repubs have bad rep here and Geo seriously thinks this board is balanced. It's delusional.

I'm giving John McCain a red chiclet before he even gets on this board in gratitude for unleashing this lady on the lower 48 and Hawaii.

And no, WTW, just because McCain isn't here yet doesn't mean you get to hold le chiclet rouge for him.

Andrew G: I agree with Poppy, Rita, LS, Geo that your posts seem to have an incredible amount of childish bitterness that really makes it hard to converse with you. Your posts about physically hurting people just make you sound like some sort of skin-head thug. We understand you are a right-wing extremist, and all the mean-spirited dogma that you spew doesn't do a whole lot to further your position. Most of us are trying to have intelligent conversations on these forums. If that's not what you're here for, maybe you are in the wrong website. Just trying to be helpful.

Intelligence doesn't factor into your irrational sense of politcal correctness. Do you really think I would expect you to have a different opinion? Some people that disagree with me resort to trying to isolate and discredit my views.

Please show me any of my posts about wanting to physically hurt people? If you're referring to terrorists killing innocent Americans you're completely off base. It's just hilarious that your so called intelligent posts resort to calling me a young skin-head thug trying to get attention.

There is an incredible amount of hate towards Sarah Palin for nothing more than disagreeing with her views which millions of Americans support. She's had more negative press and personal attacks, not to mention privacy violations from the left than any other poltical figure in modern US history. Sorry for not hopping on your bandwagon but I'm not built to lie to myself or compromise my values so i can get SOWAL rep pts. Intelligent discussions occur when everyone has an open mind to opposing views.

watching this thread devolve is akin to watching the unfortunate kid who would sit in the back of the room urinating on himself, then the nuns would have to call his mom.

I have no malice towards palin. she is simply a buffoon and a republican pawn, who has absolutely no qualities that would sway me to vote her into any political office, least of all potus.

I got red chicleted by SWGB - does that mean I'm a Republican? :idontno:

Or does it just mean that some give out a lot of red chiclets?

Big girl panties and cojones are required to post in the politics forum. If you don't have a pair of either, don't post and save us all some whining.

I got one too from someone I've never heard of before. It is just my opinion but take them and the reps and stick them where the sun don't shine.

I think the discussion of how "immature" people are with using rep shows the actual maturity of those posters.

The rep function is mostly intended for vBulletin boards used for technical issues and lets a user know at a glance whether someone is providing help or just running their mouth.

I'll be happy to state that the majority of my rep has come from helping folks on this board in more important threads like rentals, real estate, nature, etc.

I'll be the first to ask that kurt simply turn off the rep and thanks function in the political forum. It might make it more of a discussion.

I'm not sure it can be turned off in a single area of the BB, and the member would still display their number.

It comes up on every BB sooner or later; those with negative numbers whine and say they are being targeted, and can never understand why they are so. Typically, they are the ones starting flame wars and the ones who start deleting their posts. Their threads are, of course, the ones that most likely will be locked. ymmv.

I like SoWal. It is the only BB on which I post or that I read. I don't care what "internet BB protocol" is or isn't as it falls in the same category as political correctness as far as I am concerned. If it is part of the "demanded" procedure I can accept it but it is also my perogative to believe that overall it is useless. And, as far as being targeted, I can stand that also. I am certainly not "whining" about the number of reps I receive. As I previously stated, I don't understand fully how they work, what their purpose is and could care less. I am interested in what all peole say whether I agree with them or not and the ones who post on SoWal are far brighter than the average bear regardless of their political stance. While we're at it, I also think the "ignore" button is ridiculous. If you don't like someone's post, skip to the next one and forget it. Merry Christmas to all SoWallers and their guests!!!

You once gave me a red rep. and a cute little note once. You told me I was not here long enough to give advice or to point someone in the right direction. Dude,I have lived here all of my and lived in Seagrove and Panama City Beach.I probably know more about this area than you.Since I do not have 19,000 posts and spend quite amount of time away from my computer screen,I guess I do not have the "special privilige" to help someone out.
I will keep my lifelong knowledge of this area to myself for now on and let you do all of the "helping" for now on oh keeper of the gate.

You almost got it. When I told you I had been here longer than you it was in reference to you telling me to leave. As usual you have twisted and distorted the facts to attempt a one up on someone. You should probably spend less time at your computer. I don't have that option as it's my primary source of income.

Since it's the holidays I'm feeling generous.

This is exactly my point. I was told the same thing. There was a post early on that eluded to the fact that a low post count doesn't carry much weight here. There was another post about "the elite" group of posters disagree... I think the truth is once you post an opposing view these same people will try anything to discredit you. Even going out of their way to rack up negative rep pts on someone.

We should see a tally on who gives out the most negative rep pts. It would easily show who can't get along with others.

I've given positive rep a lot. I don't think i've ever given a red chicklet, but i could be wrong. I like to pat someone on the back occasionally, but wasting my time on something I find offensive and will just put me in a bad mood anyway? What's the point really? :idontno:

In Kindergarten now the kids have a red, yellow, and green status.

I wouldn't waste my time giving out negative rep, in fact I had never seen a red chicket untill you two cry babies showed up. Stop whining and start defending your positions with facts and conviction and you will be taken seriously.
