I struggle to find the compromise on tax cuts

Obama urges Democrats to support tax cut deal (I've tried to delete a lot of rhetoric.)

President Obama on Tuesday defended the deal he reached with Republicans on extending a broad range of expiring tax cuts, saying he did not want Americans to be harmed while he engages in a long-term political fight with the GOP.
Obama held a hastily arranged news conference to answer questions on the agreement struck late Monday.

Vice President Biden went to Capitol Hill to sell the agreement to Democrats who played no part in reaching a compromise Obama said he struck because Republicans would not budge.
....
Seeking to mollify angry Democrats, Obama vowed to fight further extensions of tax cuts for the wealthy when they expire in two years under the proposal being considered by Congress.

I understand the desire to not hold back unemployment benefits to settle the tax issue, but I can't figure out what the GOP compromised on.

Don't get me wrong. I think a government where our leaders actually negotiated in good faith and compromised on issues in a statemanlike way would be wonderful.

I just don't see it....

It's too bad we didn't do it this way back in 2008, if we had, we probably wouldn't have needed to blow through another 900 billion.

At least Obama seems to have figured this out.

I've been wondering the same thing but at the end of the day I think the middle will prevail.

I do too.

Now all we have to do is figure out how the heck to pay for it. 😱

Duh... you Republicants haven't come up with that concept in 9 years of tax cuts, I don't expect you to come up with it in the next two.

I expect that the voters will hold both Republicans and Democrats accountable in 2012 if spending is not cut.

The Heritage Foundation, now there's an unbiased source.

Agreed.

Of course, I am not aware of any unbiased sources.

We all know why Obama can't achieve any legislative results that are beneficial to a majority of Americans. It's called the Republicant Fillibuster, which by the way, was used about an average of fifty times per year, until about 2007, at which point the Republicants used it 112 times and have kept that pace ever since. It's not difficult to do nothing. The Republicants have become masters at it.

Can't wait for next year, so we can get more nothing! I just saw Rand Paul on CNN. He says he is going to cut $500 billion dollars in spending, but, I'm guessing, it will be more of nothing.

Biden tells House Dems the deal is done tonight and the days of compromise are over. Will they play chicken with an oncoming train or not? Middle America and the unemployed want to know....

What was all that talk from Obama about Republicans holding middle class hostage, then stating that maybe we should negotiate with hostage takers?
