"Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik blames the political climate, anti-government advocates and rhetoric in the news media and political realm for Saturday's shooting massacre in Tucson."

So the Sheriff is blaming politics, anti-government advocates, and the media for a psychopath unloading on a crowd of people?

There are likely others who also have a hatred and fear of our government, but the difference between them and this shooter, is that the shooter acted on his thoughts. He is not fit for society. Too bad the Sheriff couldn't have had the forethought to provide a deputy for the gathering, especially if he knew, as he stated, that Arizona has become an epicenter for anti-government sentiments.

I bet Walton County, FL Sheriff Atkinson wouldn't be blaming outside influence for something that his deputies might have prevented.

I wonder if we will ever find out what kind of medications the shooter was on.

There have been incidents with Giffords' office before- brick through the window after the health care vote, and apparently pretty regular protests outside it with extremely ugly language involved.

So you've got someone who is being repeatedly harassed, who is by all accounts a genuinely nice person who tries her best to do the right thing for her constituents and who is described as not having a malicious bone in her body. (If she were Christian, she'd well fit the description of following Jesus' recommendation to turn the other cheek)

And when nice people put themselves on the line for that kind of action from not so nice people, it's not necessarily a partisan action to put a description on the people who have repeatedly harassed her.

...and according the news reports, Gabby spoke out against Obama for not having border control.

Again, if a US Representative has had threats made against her, and she was going to speak in a public gathering, why wouldn't the Sheriff had stationed a deputy at that location for that event?

Even our local Sheriff knows that if a heated topic is on an upcoming county agenda, he will have more than one deputy at that meeting.

Glen Beck gave this guy paranoid schizophrenia, therefore we must outlaw Glen Beck.

I'm betting Pima County is going to have a new sheriff pretty soon.

I would like to see Glen Beck decide to do something positive...to make a real difference in the world with the forum he has been given. Just think what he might do it he used his place in the world to unite rather than divide people in this country..

Certainly he and others of his ilk have a first amendment right to speak his/their minds...but, what positive influence does the ranting have? When he asks himself how have I contributed to the world in a positive way, I wonder what the answer is...

does anyone's little girl or boy look or listen to him and say, "when I grow up, I want to be a radio/television talk show person like Glen Beck?"

No, his comments at that press conference were just over the top. I honestly can't believe people are trying to politicize the whole thing. Kinda sad.

It's been established that this guy specifically targeted Giffords, apublic official, and was motivated by political issues. Sounds anti-government to me. Why are you comparing our state with Arizona?

When I went to the shooters Youtube account I expected to see videos of some right-wing extremist screaming about how Obama is secretly a Kenyan terrorist who is destroying our way of life.

But what I found were a bunch of videos that make no sense whatsoever.

Could someone explain these videos to me? Or do they really make no sense at all?

A politician was specifically targeted by somebody with strong political leanings at a political gathering. It was politicized from the start.

If I am not mistaken, Jesus was a Jew.

I've not read anything indicating she was targetted due to her politics. I have read she may have been targetted due to her religion though.

Don't you think she was targeted because she is an office holder? Whether or not it was because of her specific stances, I don't know, but I can't escape the political nature of the crime. Of course there were other factors. I think the governor of AZ has a responsibility to comment on the hate that is spewing through her state regardless of whether a link can be established between the Arizona political climate and this shooting. Now is as good a time as any to bring these issues to the forefront, and as far as I'm concerned, this climate exists across our nation to a degree. Why did that idiot Palin take the gun sights off her web page? Because she obviously knew all along that it was alluding to second amendment remedies. She was just too stupid to realize until now how far reaching and tragic the consequences of her philosophy could be.

Arizona massacre suspect: 'I planned ahead' - CNN.com
"Also recovered in the safe was an envelope with handwriting on the envelope stating 'I planned ahead,' and 'my assassination' and the name 'Giffords,' along with what appears to be Loughner's signature," the affidavit states.

it looks as though he had planned to kill her...

"Something bad happened in the world!" ->

(long squiggly twisted line of convoluted lefty logic) ->

"It's Sarah Palin's fault!"

That was a good one, got another? We could use a little more humor in the world this weekend.

My Palin remark was an aside, but answer the question. Why did she feel the need to take down her idiotic gun sights? Not saying this is Sarah Palin's fault. Just saying she is a low-life piece of sh-- who fosters a culture of ignorance and violence perhaps due to her own ignorance, insecurity, pettiness, lack of awareness, and lack of conscience.

I am not saying that Palin is directly responsible for this tragedy (yet).

But when she literally draws gun sights on a politician who gets shot along with many others and then immediately starts destroying evidence when the incident occurs it isn't a huge leap or some 'long squiggly twisted line of convoluted lefty logic.'

Palin spews idiocy, lies, irresponsibility, and fiery rhetoric. That will be the case whether there is a link between her and this incident or not.

I read about that, and I think it was a silly mistake. I wouldn't have taken something like that down in response to something like this.

Silly mistake? What do images of crosshairs, talk of "second admendment remedies", and rhetoric about "reloading" have to do with civil political debate? She is a hate-monger and a fear-monger.
