i will get to watch the derby this year, usually we are either on the way home from sowal and i have to listen to it, or i am sleeping and miss it all together. who is everyone rooting for ? i always root for bob baffert's horses, and if there is a gray horse, or solid black i like them too ! i am very technical in my methods aren't i?

Seagrover picked the winner last year based on his clothes alone. She has a talent for it!

My daughter called me with the perfect horse...Seaside Retreat. We have to bet him just on the name alone!! She said he's a long shot, but hey, bigger winnings!

Gordie Hinds, who once lived in Kentucky, has some great paintings of the Derby at House of Art in Shops of Grayton.

Audie...I'm with you...I can't lay off the greys!! But this year there are 3!!! Steppenwolfer is 30 to 1, (I like him) Flashy Bull and Cause to Believe are both 50 to 1! But I do love them greys!!! :clap_1:

Love the grays (Silver Charm  ).

Even though I don't go to the Derby anymore, I still tear up when I watch it on TV and hear "My Old Kentucky Home" played before the race. If you are at the track, it gives you extra drinking time cause if you don't know the words, you just chug your mint julep.

:lolabove: On tv the first few line come out real strong, but by the end of the song...its just sounds like everyone is mumbling!!

We all get together every year, this year I think I'm having it...but the crowd is dwindling...turkey season and communion season 😀

You know the song that always gets me is "Run for the Roses" by Dan Fogelberg.

In the past when the Derby finally begins and they play that song you wouldn't want me to sing. Drinking and singing...bad!!!

I can't watch it. I am so afraid the horses are going to fall and hurt themselves and the jockey's. I was watching one year and this happened, it tore me up to see those horses and jockey's hit the ground. I haven't been able to watch since!

The official drink of the Kentucky Oaks- The Lilly (new this year- and sounds way tastier than a mint julep!)

Add to a shaker of ice-

1 part Finlandia vodka(Brown Forman shared the recipe on the noon news)
1 part sweet and sour mix
1 part cranberry juice
splash triple sec

shake and pout over ice

It wasn't shown garnished, but I think a piece of fresh lime and maybe a mint sprig would be lovely.

Also, it is very pink (Hey Seagrover!)- supposed to be the pink that is in the Stargazer lillies that make up the lilly blanket for the winning filly!

Would another vodka work?

What about Keyed Entry? There is a whole thread here about keyed entries v. combination. :lolabove:
Actually, Audie, I like Sinister Minister also, no particular reason, except the name.

i thought of the priest who are pedophiles when i saw that name, and for some reason it struck me as a ballsy name - i like it - it has grit !

and i  bob baffert's white hair.

Storm Treasure- pretty appropriate for the SoWal area

I need to sit down and study the entries- but I will wait until Saturday morning to see who weenies out.

Nothing Tastier than a proper Makers Mark Mint Julep, served in a silver julep cup...
