I want to tell each of you thank you for the warm wishes, advice and prayers for Daddy. He was determined to fight the cancer full on and be at his grandaughters wedding. However the growth of the cancer was outdistancing the chemo. He was horribly ill and the tumor has grown out of control. They have stopped all treatments and hospice tells us he could be gone in a day or 2. They don't think it will be longer than a week or so.
We are blessed that he's home and we've got this time with him. I was able to climb up in bed with him, laugh, cry and talk. He's constantly patting my arm and rubbing my hair. (Still worrying about us.) His sense of humor is still there. He's so strong emotionally. Daddy's very gracious in the face of this and I am so proud of him. I wish you all could have known him, he's so amazing.
I won't be here, but I know you will remember us. Jen-ay I have those numbers and will call if I need anything. If you don't hear from me you'll know we are ok. I'll look forward to having a drink with you and sharing our Daddy stories.
Thank you all so much for your continued prayers and your friendship.
I'll be back when I can to catch up on Ms Kittys wit, find out how the beach looks, hear about Audie's tan and enjoy all the Funn y'all bring to my day.

I love the poem very much as well. I certainly teared up when I found it again and reread it. It is very peaceful and a tribute to a voyage well taken.
This poem was given to me when my mother passed on. I go back and read it every now and then because it gives me peace. Thanks for posting it Paula!!!!!

Same here...our pastor read that poem at my mom's funeral, and I believe it with all my heart.
My prayers are with you, your family and your dad for a peaceful, painless, fearless journey to eternity.

When my late sister-in-law was nearing the end of her journey, a friend told us, "You know that healing can begin when you think of your loved one as someone who lived, rather than as someone who died." Sounds like your daddy is a person who has lived very large and is much loved. Our thoughts and prayers to all of you as you wish him Godspeed on his journey.

Lynne, I'm so sorry to hear about your father. We lost our Daddy three weeks ago, and it's been very hard. It's good that you have your family there with you, and that you can all help each other through this.
Sending thoughts and prayers your way from Kentucky.. edited to add: err, guess I don't have to send them that far, huh?
Amy
PS - Thank you for the beautiful poem, Paula, also.. it makes me cry but it's a good cry.

When I finished my last post about Daddy I went right back to his house because I couldn't sleep. I am so very grateful that I did. He slipped into a semi-conscious state right after that. We called my brother and sisters right away and spent the next 24 hours at his side, we were either touching him or holding each other. It was extemely hard at times and yet I felt blessed to show him how very loved he was. He passed quietly this morning with all of us surrounding him while his favorite music was playing softly.
Now the hard part, liiving in a world without him. Hope I stop crying soon, I am a sight. (I scared the nieghbors cat) We have funeral plans to make and are waiting for some out of town family to arrive. My house is a wreck since I've been with Daddy all week. I best get things ready here. I'll need more tissues and chocolate. I will check in when I can. Thanks again for everything.

Hey Lynne- I'm so glad you were with him, and he is too. It is tough to ponder life without a Dad, especially when you have blessed with a good one. It will make you treasure all the wonderful things people say about him in the next few days at the visitation and funeral. I remember every single word from my dad's friends and business associates, and you will too.
I'll bring you tissues and chocolate when you need 'em.

Lynne,
I hope you feel all the love coming your way. What an honor to your Dad, for your family to surround him with the love and grace of your love and respect. I know with my heart and soul he knew that the people that meant the most were there, when it mattered the most.
