I am on my way out the door to Bonifay to get a cat that I saved from the gas chamber!!!:clap_1: I am however needing help with names....I think that the cat (was female as of yesterday  ) is a blue point burmese or a blue point burman. Does anyone here know the difference?????:idontno:

I will take and send photos later....watch out Sunshine theres a new kid in town!!! ((JK you will never be replaced)))

Oh I do know that there is a black/brown chiwuawa (i cant spell) that is at the pound if anyone wants it. If you want info I will give it to you....I think its last day is Mon or Tues....

Re: Getting kill shelte cat today!!!

IBD, thank you thank you thank you for saving this cat. It makes me so happy. We've always had cats around the house, and have always been lucky enough to have cats that seem like dogs in cats' bodies (sounds weird but I know you what I mean). I think cats and dogs add so much love to a home!

Now about the hissing: time and lots of TLC will take care of that. Just be patient. Our Daisy, who is now 12 years old, was a stray kitten when we took her in. She hissed at me something fierce and she was only as big as my palm! Good thing I am so thick-skinned and not quick to take offence. ;-) I smothered her with love 24/7 for years on end and now I am glad to say that we are BFF. So hang in there. She will love you soon enough.

Here is a photo of my new baby!!! She is eating and drinking but did hiss at us...I guess that she is not yet adjusted.....:idontno:

Adorable!!! Congrats IBD! We just came from the pet store. We were out shopping and can never go by without stopping in. We just had to "try out" a puppy. It was the cutest little king cav charles/poodle mix. So sweet. We already have a little poodle and one is enough right now. The kids disagree of course. We also saw some really cute kittens and played with them too.

Re: Getting kill shelte cat today!!!

We are home now, I was doing an Open House at a Parade of homes house today......BORING.......

Anyway I have not decided on a name but little IBD likes FRANCIE so I am sure that I will be out voted when it comes to chosing the name. She is wandering around the house checking things out, already knows where the litter box is :clap_1:
She does hiss and growl occasionally and I am taking it that she is just scared. Ok now the biggest obstacle is our 100 lb. Doberman, he (the dog) is a push over just big as Mt. Everest. Should I go ahead and let the dog in now before she thinks the whole house is hers? or should I wait??? THe dog is outside during the day and they would never be left inside together???

What to do????:idontno:

It's the same for me, JR. Got it in an email a while back, and just stumbled across it again today when looking at cat pictures. It's so touching. Sorry, IBD, for getting off on a little tangent.
Your new baby is truly precious and she will be ruling the roost in no time!

IBD- I came on this a bit late, but bringing a new pet in the house is always a bit tricky. Keep your kitty in one room with it's box and food and water for a few days. She needs to get used to her new place slowly- new people, smells, noises, etc. Anything more is sensory overload and won't be productive- just may reinforce any fears or aggressive tendencies. Don't introduce her to the dog until she is more comfortable, which may take a while. Go in the room and spend quiet time with her there, and let her learn to trust you without 20 other things going on around her.

Our little poodle was a rescue..it took quite a long time for her to get used to us. You would raise your voice just a little and she would duck her head and run into her cage. She never wanted to go outside for fear she would be left out there. She is the best dog ever now. Be patient, she'll come around but it may take a while like you said.

Bright Eyes the Martini Time cat (picture shown) acted the same way. She had a rough life in her early years. Now she?s the best cat ever. She won?t let us out of her sight, except to go out and sit on our screened porch at the beach where she can safely watch the squirrels and lizards.

My cat, Seabass, was also a rescue. She had a pretty rough life, too. It took her a while to get used to us. She actually stayed under the bed the first 4 days after we brought her home. Almost eight years later, she is the best cat ever! Very talkative and has even become a social butterfly in her old age!

In general it will take female cats longer to bond and earn trust than male cats. Giving her her own safe space for several days will help so her guard will drop.

My (very bonded and spoiled) male kitty does the same pet-purr-and-bite routine. I'm assuming that's a play thing. but I don't know, I'm still trying to figure that one out.

kb, i have a male cat (13 years old) who does this too. He isn't very social toward anyone but me. He's very affectionate to me, purrs, rubs, head butts, and then will take a chunk of flesh out at the drop of a hat. And God forbid, I should try to move while he is happy--it's not pretty!

I  Bright Eyes!

She supervises the preparation of some really great martinis, but her favorite hors d?oeuvre is fresh tail of lizard.
